Well, for two reasons.
One is ESG money. I'm sure if they hire a consultant agency like this, they can say they are hitting ESG goals and can get extra money from groups like Blackrock.
Two, It's a protection racket. "That's a nice game you got there, it'd be a shame if someone cancelled it." They have admitted to basically threatening these companies with social outrage if they don't hire them.
Of course, what has been proven more times than not is that hiring them leads to flops, while telling them to fuck off leads to sales. Or at least no harm to your sales. Just look at Wukong and Stellar Blade. Not only did they tell them to fuck off, the gaming media was 100% against them (not just a coincidence), yet both are successes.
Reminds me of Kingdom Come: Deliverance. This was before SBI was a thing, but I'm sure it was the same type of people that were harassing the devs to change their game to be more "inclusive." They told them to fuck off, the media turned against them, but their game was a success.

It's simply not worth allowing any of your time to be wasted by people whose minds work in the DEI way. There are too many sources of entertainment available today, I can drop any franchise without as much as a shrug and still have an ever growing backlog.
I'll at least wait for a PC version one day + a community mod to remove the crap, eg. like the ingenious no-alphabet mod for BG3.

If companies DO start stripping any reference to SBI from their games....why use them AT ALL? I can see games that used SBI and are about to release wanting to downplay that toxic association but to fork over all that $$$ for.......help? and then hide any connection because it will kill your game, what was the point of hiring those loons in the first place? The ONLY real value they offer is top cover from any accusations of "lack of diversity, @#@@#-phobia, #%^#-ism, marginalizing underserved audiences, yada yada buzzwords" so if you don't highlight the deal then its just money wasted.
Of course if the Wukong 7 mill shakedown thing gets substantiated by other studios....maybe Canada needs to investigate a racketeering operation?

One way or another the "woke" in games now are so blatantly obvious that SBI credits are not even necessary... not for me anyway ... its been pretty easy to avoid this shit... even more that I never pre order games, no exceptions.

Well some developers with SBI influence will always say "Don't like it? Don't buy it" But does it give developers entitlement to push and force there agenda and narrative especially if it contains twisted gender ideology? This way of speaking is what's killing the industry not just gaming but movies and TV, that twisted agenda are more important even if the product flop. For me, I don't have any problem with female protagonist, or what ever race the protagonist, as long there not a hint or being force or pushing for narratives of twisted gender ideology like for example indiscriminate misuse of pronouns and trans. And also agendas that deliberately making characters ugly.
I'm kinda curious about their stated business model. Have there been other "narrative consultant" companies? Seems like an odd thing to outsource or 'consult' on since you'd think all that stuff would either be the main focus (for a heavy narrative game) or basically superfluous (i.e. every action game EVER) and thus not the type of thing you'd really want (or need) some outside folks to swing in to make your story "more authentic". Doesn't sound like they are doing localization stuff, which I'm sure IS a thing, but rather acting like hollywood screenwriters to game devs.
Certainly few games have a rep for a strong story so it's not like there is NO need for improvement in the game space, but really, if your dev group is just a bunch of tech guys waiting to code a story that you need some hired guns to "write with you", maybe your core business model is flawed? I don't see how they (SBI) DON'T keep going to a select few narrative themes and use checklists across projects for the usual DEI stuff, otherwise what, as an organization, are they bringing to the table that just freelance writers couldn't do for a fraction of the cost?

Thats basically all the "anti-SBI" group, if there is any such thing, has done. It's a vaguely organized boycott, literally just not buying product. No attacks on retailers or other players, no sabotage against servers, infiltrating player communities, certainly no real world consequences other than $60 not changing hands.
If there are enough folks that just refuse to buy anything tainted by SBI and that DESTROYS the player base for a game....well, sounds like those boycotters ARE YOUR AUDIENCE!! There will NEVER be a hard core shooter with in depth crafting, skill trees, and deep mechanics that will appeal to a buncha girls. So why alienate the single male audience that actually has the time for that kind of shit to chase folks who will never buy the game in the first place? My daughter will spend HOURS designing costumes though, to the shock of no one, so any game that is gonna appeal to her had better have that type of customization.
