He was talking about the PS4 version specifically if you follow the quote chain. Fellas, if you're going to comb through the man's post history in order to try to discredit him (for whatever reason) at least follow the quote chain to the end.

No real need. He doesn't come off all that well from the very comments made in this thread.

lol at well known horrible racist and pube hater Sandi Gardiner being in the cast though

I think you mean alleged horrible racist and pube hater Sandi Gardiner?

Do we know what kind of role any of the cast (apart from Gary Oldman) is playing? Interesting that John Rhys Davies and Andy Serkis are listed fairly low down on the 'cast matrix'. You'd think, being well-known and popular actors, they'd be listed more prominently.

I wonder if there is any chance of seeing Thomas Wilson doing some VO work. The way he and Mark played off of each other in Wing Command 3 and 4 was always amazing.

IN a default, ugly lighting? You'd need to compare it under "show-off" lighting, which ND probably uses whenever they trot Nate out.

Here's Nate's PSX model under neutral lighting:

Here's Gary's: (this is the most neutral expression I could find in that video)

SC's grab obviously looks softer due to higher video compression, but otherwise I think it's a decent comparison.

Edit: Is that CA I see during those Senate speech shots? Thank god for video preferences, but RSI even considering putting that in is kind of disappointing.

I don't think either of those images are particularly good. It would be nice to have the best quality for both.

A stray thought I have is that Nate has no real world counterpart for comparison. Also Nate would be considered a better looking human being, I wonder how much that influences impressions.

The benefits of doing everything in engine is that you have options like not having CA in cutscenes. I have nothing against its inclusion as the effect is trivial to implement.

The video on gamersyde has high enough quality for good comparison. Although it is constantly flickering between wrinkle and blood maps being on and off... so a good capture with all the tech turned on is a matter of searching.

For example: no wrinkle and no blood flow maps:

Poor guy has to have his facial oddities dissected like this, lol

Man, that "Senate speech" cutscene or whatever was... bad sci-fi. I dunno. All around, the music felt off, the writing made zero sense, Oldman's delivery was off, costume/set design was super generic...

They should have just gone back to full FMV with weird cat people and what not. It'll probably be better than what they showed, but I'm a bit soured.

I think Oldman's performance can't be really judged when the speech had such awkward writing, but maybe I'm just saying that because I like the actor. I completely agree that the music was off, though.

Gary/Bishop's grab is too soft, but Nate's is fine. I'm torrenting the tech video right now.

Personally I think older people have an easier way out of uncanny valley. In E3's demo, Sully's model was easily the most lifelike of the four we saw.

Sure, but why even add it in the first place? It doesn't contribute anything to the cutscenes, especially in a futuristic setting.

That's why my grab is from the part they show multiple extremes in expression. Unfortunately, sleepy eyes were the side-effect.

Okay after watching the much higher quality video I am starting to think that the way Gary Oldman speaks and his expressions are naturally "low-key". Meaning the way his mouth moves while speaking isn't highly expressive.

To be clear this is not a negative in any way, its Gary Oldman. And that speech does a very good job showing how he really speaks, while not being direct mocap.

However I think overly expressive facial animation tends to translate better. Its like the sweet zone is for facial animation in a game at this point, tends to be at the extremes, either very little expression or a lot works better than going in the middle. Oldman seems to naturally fall in the middle.

I'm not complaining though, ultimately its missing the forest for the trees, but I am starting to see that what I thought was "off" was really how Gary Oldman speaks, rather than it being poorly translated. For SC its more than enough.

Just wanted to add that there maybe more context to the speech being over-the-top.

If you have seen gary oldman in roles where he is someone more eccentric.. he speaks with his teeth flared and mouth open rather often. Zorg is an example of this.

That's a pretty cool cast and I like the consistant look of the game. The character models aren't as convincing as quite a few games out there, but given the purported scale of this game I am happy with what they are achieving.

Right. I was really referring to the F and V sounds and the way his lips move when making them. His lips are quite small so its not pronounced.
