damn, I think this game is not for me... it does not play like resident evil 2 remake did.

I did not play any resident evil game past 2, so this is quite a shock of a change in gameplay style. It's like some kind of weird action shooting game from the late 2000s' , xD like your guy is talking like duke nukem and is round house kicking dudes in the face , wtf is this LOL. I was expecting serious survival horror here , not penny-arcade Evil Dead.

Well I guess this what I get for going in blind.

the original was a main inspiration for Gears of War ;)

I think a lot of the rave reviews are built on a foundation of nostalgia. It's a good game but if this is the pinnacle of gaming in 2023 then I'm not impressed.

On the other hand if someone remade Deus Ex with the exact same clunky shooting but shiny modern graphics I would probably proclaim it as one of mankind's greatest achievements so I understand why people feel the way they do about stuff they loved as a kid.

Ok it wasn't the driver, the game just doens't like when i turn on prefer maximum performance in the nvcp for some reason.

I have a lot of money but i don't know what to buy:messenger_grinning_sweat:
In the demo, the game would crash if I had the vram usage on Red. Adjust the settings so it stays on Orange.

How did you manage to stay blind for 18 years?

Either way, give it a fair shot and complete it, maybe you'll come around to it. :)

I don't know whether to go for the Deluxe Edition or not. Price difference is about £5, and it's 4 costumes and some pay to win stuff.

Anyone have insight into that extra stuff? Are the weapons fun?

Edit: decided to buy Deluxe, and as luck would have it PayPal applied a £5 voucher for me without me asking. Win/win.

jesus its 18 years since i played this game. now i got reminded why i hated it. fucking stressful, i hate the setting and the bland colors. this game got the stone rolling for the dudebro shooters in the years 2000 / 2010.

its a good game but i got mad flashbacks. will play it once for the last time for old sake but then never touch it again.

I have an uncollected treasure at The Wharf on the island that I couldn't get back for since I didn't have a way up once I descended into the Holding Cell area. I figured at some point some shortcut would open up to get back, but I'm already at chapter 15 with the helicopter.
Do I have no way to get the treasure anymore and will I have to wait for the next playthrough or will they actually give me some way to backtrack before the final boss?
In the end I went ahead and finished the game. I'll grab that treasure in the next playthrough.
It took me 15 hours. Liked it quite a bit. I like the village part of the original better, but I enjoyed the castle and island in the remake much more. Although I'm one of those who never liked those two sections anyway, so I was expecting that would be the case.

I am loving this. It's familiar and comfortable, but different enough to keep you on your toes.

Playing through on Hardcore first time and it's tense! Feeling like I'm always on the backfoot; never certain that I'm sufficiently equipped for what's coming next. I might not survive, but it's fun trying.

I’m closing in on chapter 5 and definitely having a good time and a good challenge on hardcore. I think it’s a fine first time difficulty. Died 11 times or so (and purposely reloaded saves to conserve ammo plenty of times). I feel like encounters are getting harder and harder though.

Almost every area is tense and frantic. Love that feeling.

I would not bother if playing on console though (with current deadzone issues).

This might be my new favorite RE title.

I will say my cpu is showing its age now. 60-100 fps most of the time, but having gone back to the village at night in the rain, it’s really pushing my pc to its limits.

The RE3 Remake team is made of ex Clover and Platinum devs. They understand better about gameplay mechanics.
I would agree with this. RE3 remake was butchered with its content and they've done Nemesis dirty but out of all recent remakes, I think it had the most solid combat. You could actually hit things and the dodge mechanic is something that could really come in handy in RE4 remake.

Well a lot of the criticism can be traced to nostalgia also.

I think the character building, dialogue and multiple pathways you can choose are what make Deus Ex such a masterpiece, smoother shooting wouldn't matter I think. Might even hurt the character building like how upgrading your gun skills reduces aim sway

Will the extra treasure map dlc make this too easy?

Maybe but not really? I'm almost done with a first playthrough on standard and picked up most of the treasures and all the extra treasures. I've maxed 3 or 4 weapons and have a couple more with decent investments. Might've squeezed a bit more money with optimal treasure combining but whatever. The few extra upgrades are nice but I don't think it'd be much harder without them. You just focus on fewer weapons. On Hardcore and, especially, Professional? It'll probably make it a good bit easier having extra money for upgrades or purchases.

Edit: Quite a few of the extra treasures are spinels (for trading specific items) or coins to gamble on case trinkets.

Man I was cruising until I got Ashley, just finished up the house fight with Luis and I’m running low on ammo and health. I missed a ton of pickups when the cutscene triggered before I could get them too 🫤

Might replay that but when I start back up after our company leaves tonight.

RE4 is the birth of the modern TPS; with Japanese action game design philosophy. Its the moment they departed from pure survival horror. Try it again sometime as an action game.

This is what Aliens is to Alien; a legendary action game sequel.

Already sold the DLC weapons for the Red9.

The knife has really made this game feel like a fresh experience. I didn’t have this tactical feeling in the last couple remakes. Not a bad thing, but a good thing.

tore up the chainsaw wielding ladies. Threw two grenades and blasted them with headshots. It was very satisfying.

Finished the game. FANTSTIC. This is what I wanted!!!
Ashley is hot af
Leon is hot af
Guns are hot af
Combat is hot af.

There are even models to unlock and a lot of tuff in bonus menu. THIS IS WHAT I MISS IN GAMES.
I recommend buying ashley model and moving the camera around. There are booby physics and thighs physics! Japanese know their stuff lol.

One thing I wish for is that I knew striker is a waste of time. I wasted good 30% of a game with this shit. Riot shotgun is where it's at! The thing is a headshot cannot!
I kinda want to replay original now. just to compare. No new textures or anything aside from re4_tweaks

lol just came here to post this. Difficulty ramped up big time. Multiple chainsaw bitches, dozens of zombies who turn into tentacles and fucking Ashley dies in friendly fire.

One time she fell and i went to revive her only to have a karen throw a Molotov at us. She got burned alive lmao

Thankfully you can hide her but they can find her somehow causing even more chaos lol

Does anyone know if the charms from the shooting gallery carry over to a new game ?

The Bolt Thrower is very useful at helping you conserve ammo. It’s worth upgrading its power and capacity. On Hardcore I can save bullets by taking down enemies. Usually takes 6 bolts. But you can recover them.

Also yes the game is definitely harder than the Original. Enemies can run and close in on you so fast. During sections with a lot of enemies, it’s much harder to conserve ammo by lining up those perfect shots and kicking them. I’ve learned to accept that sometimes you just gotta say “fuck it” and pull out your Boomstick or TMP on even regular enemies during the more chaotic fights.

there's always elements where you fight in helping immensely to clear the area and you can bait the ganados easily too. Kinda funny how the game plays like Doom sometimes, i just quickswap between 3 weapons to avoid reloading in order to take out the most annoying enemies, then shoot dynamite in the hands of throwers, bait toward barrels, you can also shoot lanterns to put groups of enemies on fire and so on and so forth

Otherwise, graphically speaking it looks like shit and its a shame. The lake boss was straight up ps2 garbage graphics wise

Finished my first run on Standard at just under 16 hours. No real difficult parts but I did game over a few times to losing Ashley and instakills. I think they really nailed the island sections and made them enjoyable to go through.

My only real negative is Ada. Her VA in RE2R was perfect. It's too bad they weren't able to bring her back. Her new VA isn't terrible; she just doesn't seem to fit her. That aside I wish they did a bit more with her in the main game. Hoping they give her a good campaign DLC. Maybe if I spend more than a minute with her she can grow on me.

What is this rubbish about the striker being bad? That was my favorite weapon and you could get it to hold 100 shells.

What a sad day :(
Oh yeah, meant to mention that. I have no clue what they're on. Striker did good work for me. Rapid fire, wide spread shotgun tore apart bull dudes and groups.

Maybe it's not as good as the Riot? It's certainly not bad.

There was a strong Riot Gun following in the original, but I always preferred the Striker by far.

To me the Striker had the best spread and power, and that special feature of holding 100 shells just made it there best weapon in the game for me.

Maybe I’m misremembering, but didn’t you get your weapons fully loaded when you upgraded the ammo? The remake doesn’t do that.

I'm deep in the castle and loving it on Hardcore. For the first few chapters I was considering restarting as I found the new style of combat a bit frustrating. But once the weapons get some upgrades they start to have real stopping power. Also, I thought the original way of funnelling enemies was gone, but it's still here, you just have to search out the right areas of a map and stand your ground. The first thing I bought with Spinels was the laser sight and it's so much better playing with it. Hopefully there will be a mod to add it to all weapons.

The game is great at giving you just enough ammo / options to make it through an encounter. A few times I've thought "how the fuck am I going to do this, I've got nothing" but there is always a way - just like the original. The new sequences have been fantastic and I haven't missed the things that have been cut. We are getting at least as much new stuff and the devs really know what they are doing, what to focus on, what the strong points of the original were. I'm really hoping it doesn't shit the bed in the second half as so far this is unbelievably good.

Okay, I'm at the part now where you have to run from Mendez (who's not even named in this version and he's been reduced to a near-mute Mr. X stand-in because... why exactly?), and it's so fucking annoying. If you or Ashley are hit then it's over, you can just reload a save there because you won't be able to pick that bitch up and either you're gonna get pummeled to death or he's gonna grab her an it's mission failed.

So yeah, they managed to turn what used to be a cool boss fight into something infinitely more shitty.

Why exactly is everyone raving about this remake again?
You do fight him though, and it's almost exactly the same fight. That's after the run sequence.

So uh, first off the game so far is amazing, as expected. I usually go with standard or normal and then work my way up to the higher difficulty settings but yeah. The game's like hey if you played RE4 (2005) then you should try hardcore and I'm like okay, I'm not one of the best players but I'm not the worst. It's not so bad until...yeah until I rescue Ashley and we try to escape the church area and I'm literally swarmed with 20 ganados surrounding us and they of course just take her and I'm left stuck in a loop of getting attacked. And I barely can even do ANYTHING. First time I die and then second time Ashley gets taken away and I just rage quit. She's somehow more annoying to me than ever before. I don't know how anyone gets through that but like I said there's a lot of players better than me so yeah.

I'm more scared of babysitting Baby Eagle than I am so far of anything else in the game. It was just so nice with Leon, just Leon. I know, I know the whole mission is for him to rescue the president's daughter but now I understand those Japanese RE4 promo commercials. Hmm...I'm going to die a lot.

On the the positive side though I really enjoy The Merchant and I knew I had nothing to worry about the wolf, how epic. Though I'm not finished this remake, I'm sure it will be another favorite RE game of mine. I just need more time and patience to adjust to Ashley. Somehow leaving her in a dumpster to hide sounds good but okay. I'll just have her tag along...everywhere. Did I mention I'm going to die a lot?

Meh, nostalgia is overrated as fuck. I'm closing in on 40, and the best games are of today. RE4 may quite possibly be the best RE title I've ever played. Coming from someone that played the original when it was released on gamecube, and that's it. I liked it then, and love it now. I'm still playing but this might be in my top 5 games of all time (and they include zero games before 2010). Fuck nostalgia up it's ass. Games are so amazing today and I'm so thrilled to be alive in this time and day. I've been on a gaming drought and RE4 woke me the hell up.

Just finished the game on Hardcore. It's 1am and tired, but goddamn what a ride. You're gonna see this on S/A tier on people's lists for sure. Capcom did it again! I'll probably post my complete thoughts tomorrow.
