[NX Gamer] PS5 Pro - Hardware Review, performance, image and boosts

Nice build. Did you not want to hold out for the 9800x3d?

No, jumped on the 9700X the moment they dropped the price after announcing the 9800x3D.

The PC is hooked up to a 4k set in the living room and the main priority is keeping the noise to a minimum, so happy to have achieved that by keeping the 9700X in its stock form at 65w.

Outlined how it's all gone here:

If I decide to replace my 4090 with a 5090 next year then I might get an AM5 board and a 9800x3D for that build and retire the 5800x3d system.

What is more important? Image quality or Frame rate? For me its image quality.

Frame rate is part of image quality ...fluidity is a big fcking part of the quality of the image when in movement...anyway

I cant justify the pro this time around for an upgrade that barely really improves the games in a meaningful way... but for the ones that want the best of the best in consoles ... go for it. Options are always good.

Time for wait for the ps6.

DD2 is the most transformed experience from the games I've tested so far. Having that 50-60fps range with VRR on, with RT and PSSR it really looks and feels great to play. My only recommendation is turning off Motion Blur as it creates shimmering edges on models when the camera pans.
Isn't what DF mistake for RT artefacts?

Seems pretty underwhelming without the software library to really make use of it.

This is definitely not for someone who was expecting newer games at launch to utilize the hardware. It's perfect for people like myself who have semi-retired games early and are going back. Thankfully I've done that with 4 or 5 AAA games.

I also found it funny that some people were expecting PS5 Pro launch titles??? Might as well wait for a PS6.

I mean for example I saw Metaphor that was struggling on the base. Now it's pretty much being a locked 60fps under boost mode of all things. And without an official patch, which is pretty impressive.

Edit: grammar.

Not my experience with Lossless Scalling on PC at 30, at all

I believe that you havent experienced how the technology is nowadays compared to what it once was.
You're getting 30fps control response times with a fake display output of 60fps. That is what frame gen is doing.

I hope the folk with the Pro are happy with it thus far.

As an aside, can we call Alan Wake 2 just Alan from now on? 😅

For the usual suspects who grace us with their concern in every PS5Pro thread, I say that maybe not finding the most powerful console on earth good for you means that "console" gaming is not for you? Maybe try to build a $5000 PC?

And please... don't forget to keep your concern consistent when Switch 2 releases, or PS6 outperforms whatever MS puts.. or Nvidia releases a card with less uplift than from previous gens than PS5 to PS5PRO.

Consistency is king here 🤣

I have a 4080 laptop that's smaller than Pro I use primarily for work but can be easily be connected to a pc monitor/TV. Way more options for games going back to the 90s all the way up to Sony "exclusives" + gamepass on the Xbox side.

I would have paid $1200 anyway for a work laptop(for travel) but got the 4080 for $1600. Not to mention, my laptop drastically enhances any PC game from previous generations, not just some of them.
VR? No wait on "enchancement" patches there either. You'll get the rare instances where ps5 pro NMS or RE8 looks better, but 90% of the rest either won't show any difference at all or a slight boost, but mods and hundreds of other games.

I'm considering a ps5 pro for the vr exclusives maybe getting patches, but the idea that you need $5k to get similar(or better) performance to ps5 pro is inaccurate. I guarantee this work laptop will outperform or match pro in most every case, especially when you factor in performance. Variety and options it's not even close. $1600 is more than $700, but it's not 5k either.

Work laptop....... At 1080p is the only place the laptop shines.

And if you hook it up to a TV you're more than likely plugged into power.

At that point why not build a PC where you can get a real 4080?

I use a monitor and it smokes everything at 1440p. I also have a desktop at home and they have gaming monitors at both work locations.
