Buying a 6 core processor in 2024 isn't a very good long term investment.

Gaiff

SBI’s Resident Gaslighter
Star Wars Jedi and Robocop both only increase performance by 30% according to NX gamer.

I cant believe Cerny designed this console. 60 CUs, 16 tflops. 67% more tflops. All for just 30% more performance. Cant even hit the 45% promised in the spec leak. Just atrocious for a premium 800 pound console.
Jedi Survivor also goes from around 720p to 1080p in addition to the 30% performance boost on the Pro.

Rogue City isn’t patched.

Pro max mode is pointless in Stellar Blade there's tons of shimmer as well

Yeah, if it’s not CPU limited they should have made a 120fps mode instead. At least that would have delivered an advantage in frame rate over the PSSR mode even if they would have had to sacrifice image quality to get there.

Eh, main stuff I wanted to get from this machine, aside from future software, is Capcom games at Resolution + RT at 60fps.
While installing TLOU Part I disc + Patch the very first thing I've downloaded is the Resident Evil 4 Remake Demo, which I know extremely well running like ass on PS5 on Resolution + RT + Hair Strands, from the very first scene to the last village fight.

Lo and behold it runs like fucking butter on Pro. 60fps on Res + RT + Hair Strands + DoF + Lens Distortion and CA and Motion Blur, I threw everything at it, caused mayhem in the village, nothing, all felt as goddamn perfect as it gets.

I knew the patched version runs well but I needed to test raw performance increase because of unpatched RE2R, RE3R, DMC5 etc. and this provided one hell of a first impression personally, as far as I'm concerned purchase is already justified even simply for those and DMC5 RT.

Now we'll see with Part I for my first PSSR exposure.

Dragon's Dogma 2 playable for me at last, on Pro. :messenger_smiling:

I picked up Dragon's Dogma 2 from gamestop a few minutes ago. Going to compare it against the PC version just for the hell of comparing DLSS and PSSR. I'll try and get some screenshots up.

Oh piss off with these shit-tier PC builds.

You've got a dead end platform, one of the worst motherboards in existence, one of the worst NVME drives on the market, no extra case fans (the case you selected comes with just one 120mm fan) and if you don't throw in a CPU cooler you're stuck with one of the most horrible sounding fans around under load.

The only person you'd be headshotting with that hotbox of a dead-end build is yourself.
This is an underrated comment. Yes you can technically build a PC for that price, but it's not gonna be nice.

No it certainly wasn't from my experience.

As long as the games weren't framerate capped they would use the machine to its full potential.
No. Unpatched games only used 18 CUs (half of the GPU) and only benefitted from CPU/GPU clock speed increase (1600 to 2130 Mhz/800 to 911 Mhz) which is pretty meaningful compared to PS5 PRO. But not remotely full potential.

fuck that, since consoles uses AMD architecture and RDNA 2 u can just put a RX 6800 XT 16GB ( its a better card anyway ) and save another U$ 100, putting this rig at U$ 800.

A U$ 100 more and u ll be able to play everything without the need of "next gen" patches, emulate whatever u want and play online without a fee.

6800 XT does not have AI upscaling and it has terrible RTRT performance.

Vick, can you talk more about the image quality? This Youtuber says that the image quality is much improved even in PS4 games, but what is your opinion?

for the price the RX 6800 XT is a way better card, u can also run FSR 3 just fine on the card and at 1440p isnt even that bad (ofc DLSS is better), now RT is the weak link of AMD.

Now every single day the same thing;

-Those who don't have it, will diss the console (With some lies).
-Those who have it, will try to defend their purchase like a warrior (With some lies).

They are the same!

God give me patience!

I actually see this build and think, "this pile of shit is what you can get for $900?" Back in the day a shit tier build with outdated parts was like $400-$500. PC gaming has gotten so expensive and the PS5 Pro is just following along.

complain about shit tier parts ( with a 4070 as graphics ) for PC, proceeds to buy a PS5 pro that use the same shit tier parts.

I haven't purchased a PS5 pro, I used the funds to put this together and put it in the living room (already had the 4080 in an old AM4 build):

But please go on.

Only thing I've tried so far on Pro is the RE4R Demo, a PS5 software in its original 4K TAA IQ from Resolution Mode, so there's really nothing I could say apart from the fact it's my first time playing the game in this resolution at such a stunning rock solid butter smooth presentation.
The full game patched version uses PSSR, and in that same demo section runs at 79.5 average with 74 min and 88 max with RT and Hair Strands, but I'm not sure when I'll get to personally test that, hopefully tomorrow but RE2R has priority.

Still waiting for TLOU Part I update, me and my wife have guests and everyone's connected with multiple devices at the moment in my house and the patch is a ridiculous +30GB.
But should be ready in a matter of tens of minutes, as soon as I'll try it I'll share with you my first experience with PSSR.

Being able to play games like Horizon or Ratchet at 60fps at higher fidelity/IQ on Portal is a great bonus I haven't seen people discussing anywhere.

Seeing the improvements in those games on both my OLED tv and Portal makes this a great purchase, imo.

Edit:

Have to check out Demon's Souls as well.
Completely forgot to download ot amongst all the other games I've been checking out so far.

Edit 2:

Demon's Souls in Pro mode on Portal is outstanding. Crisp visuals and smooth gameplay.

Very impressive, but maybe it already was. 🤷🏾‍♂️

Reviews are pretty confusing about DD2 on ps5 pro. Some gaming media says Dragon Dogman 2 was impressive some says its not. While user reviews says it was very good in ps5 pro. So I guess it is subjective. For those who have ps5 pro and DD2 game you have too see it to judge it.

I’m wondering if Pro runs in any compat mode for OG PS5 games.

Re4 got a Pro patch? Damn… missed that. How is it? No blurry AF now?

Alright, finally had some time and tried PSSR in TLOU Part I.
Maybe not the best software due to its sharpening process, but what I've seen has blown me away. I've personally never played a graphically demandig game with such IQ at high framerate before.

Could be worth noting I game on full native motion resolution 100% blur-free calibrated Panasonic panel, but while panning with such fluidity, and seeing how stable everything was while retaining all of its solidity and density, on my panel it legit felt like I was running an 8K source or some retarded stuff like that.

I had previously complained about the most recent patch on regular PS5:

Man you are unfortunately right, they messed up their TAA.
Game looks much sharper but also infinitely less natural and pleasing as a result especially in motion, and it's definitely nowhere near as perfectly clean as it was before.
The pre-rendered look is completely gone while playing.

I know static pictures might tell a different story but 2.00 is unquestionably worse. If the PSSR image on Pro is going to be similar to this (but obviously more stable) I'll probably keep playing the game on my main PS5 while making sure it never updates.

I unfortunately messed up as well, as I realized too late the second PS5 captured screenshots in .jpg so keep in mind these are all compressed.

If someone plays on a regular PS5 and has yet to update, DO NOT.

@CellarDoor81 many, many thanks for sharing.
And I am genuinely sorry for you, unfortunately the version on disc is missing some graphical detail like Joel reacting to water flowing on him (along with the splashes on him), and they fixed countless other issues with that absolutely *perfect patch 1.003:

*The only downside Anthony Caliber highlighted, the wheels visually not rotating while pushing the car with Bill, only affects speedruns and doesn't happen on a normal playthrough.

But none of those issues are anywhere to be found on Pro. Temporal stability is better than ever, solidity you can reach and touch with your hand, retained color shades.. everything about it just feels insane to me. The thought it's really that little, silent thing running this is uncanny.
It would be literally flawless picture to my eyes if it wasn't for the fact I've noticed PSSR currently doesn't perfectly resolve micro particles like dust, they are fine while static but when you pan the camera they blur and trail a little, this particular instance doesn't look as good in Pro mode for example:

Aside from that though, it's a damn fine first impression.
For the whole machine really, perfect raw performance upgrade where I wanted it (so far, we'll see DMC5 and RE2R) and blown away by my first PSSR experience.

I believe they really should have created a proprietary tech for frame generation to go along with PSSR

Imagine system wide frame gen. Would be absolutely nuts. And would help with those cases of an unstable 60 FPS.

As it is today, it's definitely a crap value proposition imo
Frame gen is abysmal unless you're targeting framerate far above 60fps, like 120.

Let people choose

Some people are fine with 30 to 60 (hence many people playing Wukong on Performance Mode instead of Quality)

And I would choose reconstructed 50 to 100 instead of unstable 60 any day

Seems like a rushed and not so great review with allot of mumbling. Sorry pal. I don't disagree with your conclusion though.

No, what I mean is frame gen is a laggy artifacted mess at lower framerates because the technology is not designed for anything that can't handle a stable 60fps or higher to begin with. Its not a matter of choice, it would be incredibly unresponsive and look terrible.

Not my experience with Lossless Scalling on PC at 30, at all

I believe that you havent experienced how the technology is nowadays compared to what it once was.

Demon's souls was not really visually crisp in performance mode. It was good enough for 1440p + TAA with good stability in motion. But never crisp like native 4k.

Keep in mind that I was refering to Demon's Souls on Portal, so I was talking about 1080p Remote Play crisp. 😅
Haven't tried it out on my TV yet.

People in the US should be buying a PS5 Pro without question. It might be the last affordable consumer tech on the market if that category doesn’t get a tariff exemption next year….
I said the same thing months ago when the Pro was announced and it was pretty easy to see which way the wind was blowing, all tech is about to get increasingly more expensive.

DD2 is the most transformed experience from the games I've tested so far. Having that 50-60fps range with VRR on, with RT and PSSR it really looks and feels great to play. My only recommendation is turning off Motion Blur as it creates shimmering edges on models when the camera pans.

I see. Well it looks like the TV tech is obviously important to really appreciate the capabilities and performance of ps5 pro. Well you will not notice to much on a 1080p tv any changes, it has to be a very good 4k tv or better yet 8k tv, preferably with AI upscaling technology. Fortunately if I get ps5 pro next year, we have that type of Tv set, 4k with AI upscaling in my brother's house.
