I remember Fox News doing scandalized reporting 20 years ago on the first Mass Effect being "pornographic" because you could plow Liara. Anyone know what the plowing situation is in this? I'm always willing to forgive a little foolishness if I can pipe the whole town. It sure helped in the Fable games.

I haven't paid close attention, but I think I heard that if you play as a heterosexual male, there are only two options. One is the dwarven chick, I don't know who the other is.

If you're gay or non-binary or whatever, you have more plowing options.

Been banned for ages, kopped it around the same time as ACG.

Id like to say an era ban is a badge of honour but they hand them out like Eurogamer hands out 5/5's ie worthless.
I was banned because I thumbs upped a tweet from someone asking if I was going to review Cyberpunk. I was told later that I was given 3-4 hours in the middle of the night(for me) to defend myself.
I still don't have a defense because I still never was told what the issue exactly was with me personally. I was then told later by a mod to "Not even try to fight it, they threw you under the bus and its probably not worth it."
Later I did find out that I am considered WOKE to many of you because of my like for games like Sims 4 and Life is Strange, Oxenfree, and ANTIwoke to them because I tease everyone.

I am VERY happy with being disliked by both groups. I do love some chaos.

I remember that. Insane stuff.

Glad you pop your head in here from time to time. I enjoy your reviews mate.

I just watched Mortisimal Gaming review of the game and to him this is a GotY contender and the best entry in the series. I'm rather confused now, but I'm still currently leaning towards believing Skill Up mainly because he gave lots of examples with footage for most of his criticisms.

I haven't watched Mortisimal, so I don't know what to make of that. My first instinct is to say that if you praise this game as GOTY and best DA game ever, that is a mark against your taste and credibility as a reviewer.

Huh. Sounds like things have kind of flipped since the early days of "if you wanna be gay, there's Leliana or Zevran." But regardless of gender, if that dwarven chick is Scout Harding, she's been waiting 10 years for us to put her in the paint mixer and rattle her around. Hell yeah to that.

I was banned years ago just for giving my thoughts on when an embargo for some game or other might lift, they decided I was stating facts and demanded I give 'proof' for what I'd posted in the next couple of hours from their message. I don't live on the internet 24/7 like a lot of them so got the demand and the ban at the same time.

Deeply odd place.

Honestly a laughing stock of a website. I've been temp banned 3 times within the space of 6 months. One of which was for "objectifying women" when I liked a screenshot of Tifa from Rebirth.

Most of the people on there are fine, but the asylum is most definitely run by the lunatics.
Welcome aboard!

If Veilguard flops EA is going to micromanage the ever living fuck out of the Mass Effect production.
... which would start the cycle anew. They have to stop micromanaging shit, hire actual developers/creators, lend them some trust and retain that talent instead of letting them walk away/firing them. That's the short sighted strategy that's brought them into this current situation in the first place.

But, something like that would be an admission from EA; That they've actually lost valuable talent and won't be or have a hard time getting them back. That would be too much for the EA top folks to acknowledge and face.

My single biggest issue with all the Sweet Baby influence in gaming today isn't even the forced diversity or heavy handed political messaging (although both are grating), it's that that worldview doesn't allow for any level of legitimate conflict. The result is enforced bland storytelling and characters. There's no possibility for nuance, compromise, sacrifice, or risk. It's rather impossible to tell an interesting story without these things.

Indeed. When everything is offensive to somebody, create the most generic, dull, tedious dialogue so as to not offend anyone ... even fictional in-game characters.

Genius writing right there "Oof"
Wtf does that mean anyways?
Feels like a lot of writers don’t take pride in their work, aren’t good at their jobs or take too much inspiration from Marvel/Family Guy type writing. I blame the lack of education and general culture shift in the West that shies away from serious and real themes.

They only gave Shadow of the Erdtree 60%. By their reckoning Veilguard is apparently nearly twice as good…

They need to do better. Should have made this fella non-binary:

A side note as I just started watching that linked Skill Up video. The first thing he says is "reviews are opinion. " ... if you are a professional reviewer, please stop thinking that is correct. It's meant to be objective, not opinion. That's why gaming journalism is so fucking shit. It's a small thing, but "opinions" have caused this state of gaming after years and years of morons getting a platform (not calling this reviewer a moron, more the "big" go to "journalists)

I am still watching it, and so far the review seems good. The game looks and sounds horrendous. Animations, facial expressions, smooth no pore skins, voice acting, writing etc are terrible. The characters' animation are so off putting and then paired with the low quality writing is just so bad. The characters look and act like they drink botox.

People that reviewed this so highly should be ashamed.

It's because over time, assessing the quality of a game has become more and more nebulous in terms of categories, consistency and weighting bias.

Honestly, I preferred the old radar charts where each category was scored separately like graphics, story, bugs, gameplay etc.

It gave a much more balanced and consistent outcome while still recognising good elements of bad games

Huh. I gotta be honest, I wanna know more about this whole lyrium kiss situation. If I were playing a dude and romancing Harding, this would be a pretty interesting pivot. I'd be devastated if there wasn't any way to recover the relationship from here, but having my player character embarrass himself like that... while something to cringe at, I kinda like it? I'm a sucker for the turbulent relationships, though. Having things go to shit is motivating, y'know? How do I fix shit with Harding after that?

Could be that I'm just too willing to give these things a chance, I dunno. My biggest complaint is that I wish Harding sounded a little older. If she approached this conversation with a little less panic and a little more... I don't know, anger? I'd probably like the delivery a lot more.

Dull isn't even the right word for the voice acting. It's practically monotone. It's like everyone sounds like they're on either benzos or anti depressants. It sounds so off and empty. Soulless.

The guy is probably just tired of idiots trying to “refute” his review by saying “well that’s just YOUR OPINION”.

Yeah a lot of independent reviewers do this across the board on YouTube. I was watching an iPhone v Samsung comparison the other day and the reviewer (even though he had a clear favourite and winner), strongly caveated their review with “no one is right, nobody is wrong, neither of these phones are better than the other, it’s just about what you prefer”.

They make such hack comments because they are absolute scared shitless of pissing off enough of a fanbase, who then end up downvoting/flagging their video, reducing the video’s reach and search rankings, etc.

Reviews are opinions for sure, scientifically they are opinions, there isn't a jury that's out on that. That's already a ground truth.
Even the original as well as the newer changed meaning for the term shows it is an opinion, though one directed at change being requested in whatever is being reviewed.

It doesn't stop objectiveness, and you should be in reviews!

Technical elements in reviews, backed up by consistent technical information, are an objective part of any review. The context within the review pointing to why you are stating a particular rating adds an air of personal authority to a review but is ultimately also opinion.
Combined they should make a review feel complete.

Then again, I am not a professional reviewer technically.

For example, I have complete confidence in everything I say in a review but, at times, a reminder that they are my ideas influenced by my experiences isn't a bad thing. I will fight to the end of the day that whatever I said in a review is, for me for sure, my truth. However, occasionally watchers need to be reminded of that. Its a single sentence that can, many times, cool down an argument that starts even as the video starts up.
