Will Sony ever launch PSSR on their PC ports to optimize and update it better like DLSS as both Nvidia and AMD supports AI features on their GPU.

That would be ice on the cake, but most likely no.

I can see FSR getting some upscaling tweaks thanks to PSSR, but the whole upscaller being available on PC I highly doubt it.

How else would they charge you 800$ for a console?

I think PC is good for scalers to be fair, most PlayStation ports seem to include DLSS, FSR & XESS so you're more than covered. Sony would probably be better served just keeping PSSR on console to make it easier to optimise going forward.

Scaling under 1080 to 4K is also an issue for everyone. DLSS Ultra Performance is absolute guff on a 4K screen, there's no magic wand to work on scaling from such low resolutions as PSSR is having to unfortunately.

It’s not impossible. Might be up to the dev to implement it. Insomniac has IGTI on PC, so who knows?

Introduce PSSR to PC wouldn’t do much though when there are already 5 different solutions, including two that are better than PSSR at the moment.

🤣

XeSS and DLSS are both better than PSSR.
Because of user base. I don't know much about AI to be frank however, wide range of user who play at lower resolution can solve PS5 Pro issues with PSSR as AI developers and learn and will help
lower bases of Pro user with their upscaler. There is no harm to launch PSSR on their exclusive ports on PC.

It's separate hardware right? So unless amd gets to fully incorporate it then probably not, but amd is working on their own hardware driven ai upscaler so it won't matter.

But it might show up in Sony TVs at some point

Would anyone with a nVidia GPU use it over DLSS? Probably no, so that leaves you with addressable market of 12% of the dGPU userbase. Would anyone with an Arc GPU use it over XMX-accelerated XeSS? There goes anyone with an Arc GPU and most of the iGPU market going forward.

How would you implement it in a GPU-agnostic fashion? DP4a? In that case you just replicate what DP4a XeSS can already do on anything else and you're less performant than XeSS and DLSS.

And this is before FSR4 even hits the market.

There isn't enough comparisons even for PSSR.. what we had is a very good and trading blows with Nvidias latest tech ..
lol dude, we already have enough comparisons and they clearly show that PSSR shits the bed in many cases where DLSS doesn't.

Just wait for more comparisons? Just wait for better patches? Just wait for better tools? Just wait until they fix their shit? Just wait until PS6? 👀

The best comparison we have so far (as in best case scenario for PSSR), is Ratchet and Clank where it still falls short due to image stability issues. The more the resolution drops the worst these issues become apparent. So I don’t think it’s inaccurate to say it’s not as good as DLSS yet. Obviously this can change going forward, but I’m just going off what we have seen so far.

Maybe. As long as it always comes in tandem with DLSS I don´t care either way.
Considering the small install base AMD has left it definitely wouldn`t be a priority right now.

Fair enough, my original issue with Gaiff Gaiff that he stated their are TWO solutions for PC that are better than PSSR which I found not particularly correct

Yeah, XeSS and DLSS...XeSS is much closer to DLSS than PSSR and never gets as bad as PSSR does in Silent Hill 2, Jedi Survivor, or Alan Wake 2. That's to be expected because those two solutions are much older than PSSR and have had a lot more data to work with. It's not an indictment to the new kid on the block that the veterans are better.

XeSS isn't that far off from DLSS, even at lower resolutions. PSSR holds its own at higher resolutions but struggles immensely at lower ones, which isn't unexpected.

I don't think they would want an option that directly compares DLSS with PSSR unless it's actually as good as or better.

Can you point to a single instance where PSSR is better than DLSS?

Not a PC gamer and even I gotta say, why would PC gamers choose an untested thing when they have much more mature options like DLSS and the ever improving XeSS already?

It would make no sense. It's more likely AMD will have FSR4 that works on RDNA4 and will take advantage of similar/same hardware.

It would make sense at some point when PSSR is more mature but right now DLSS is going to be preferred by damn near everyone.

I don't remember where I saw this but Silent Hill 2 on PC that still had the PSSR calls in the files and its 100% exact match to calling XeSS which I found curious even if of course, its not the same SDK so it doesn't mean much, just called in the engine the same.

If Sony wants to give PSSR / FSR / XeSS / DLSS / DLAA options in their games, why the hell not. Don't try to force just PSSR though.
