Sony's President quote clarified, "multi-platform" means PS and PC NOT Xbox and Switch

Yeah damn MS shills making the Sony president talk about how margins need to improve, missed targets for last year, lowered upcoming targets and how they need to improve their multiplatform initiatives. And then they went and manipulated the stock market to significantly lower Sony shares and knock several billion off the valuation. No wonder MS pays them the big bucks, those Russian misinformation factories have nothing on ColtEastwood.
Or: some major shifts are happening at Sony and their financials aren't the best right now.
Like they haven't been talking about it for the past few years.

Let's not act like this is something new.

They had record revenue and profits.

They've loads of cash on hand and are in the black with free cash flow, the company has never been healthier.

The problem was SIE margins which were low and pissed everyone involved, they wanted 20% and got 6 😂😂😂😂

Gamepass devalued games.
Day One PC releases devalued Xbox.

Yeah but they've been testing the same pond for a couple years now. Previously multi-platform meant all consoles then it meant all consoles except Nintendo Switch and now it means just Playstation and PC? This is getting pretty sad.

If they want to get aggressive then they need to have global same day release for PC and Playstation on a consistent basis.

The current trend is it releases on Playstation first then usually gets carted off to Epic(If Epic buys the exclusivity rights) and then later on PC proper.

So ass backwards.

lol Releasing Day 1 on PC is just as bad.

He's a moron who has learned nothing from Microsoft's mistakes. You devalue your console by pushing games on a different platform. Doesnt matter if its PC or Switch or iPhone.

We all know where this train leads.
Of course he learned. MS is worth trillion dollars today. And Sony not even close.

Sure, just alienate 50 million Xbox Gamers and 140 million Switch gamers. When you think about the potential that Sony has making money on games, this sounds like a dumb idea for GAAS games

You have games like Spider-Man 2 costing $300M per entry this gen dude.
This isn't the PS2 era anymore. What can they do? Increase game prices even more?

MS's mistake was thinking having all their games on a subscription service day one would be amazing. They devalued their own portfolio. Sony isn't going for that.

Sony has been releasing their games on PC for a while now. This isn't even new.

Another 'Chinese whispers' made-up story it seems as Mr Totoki clarified nothing :lollipop_confused:

Strong titles that achieve growth on PS5, PCs and other platforms will widen our margins.

Question 6 from the official Sony transcript of the meeting here

MLB the Show is probably the most AAA multiplatform from Sony and its in perennially in Game Pass. I wonder what the financial benefit for them is there.

Titanic was called the Ship of Dreams, and it was. It really was.
They don't consider PC direct competition, and it's been that way forever.

Sony published Final Fantasy VII in the US(the classic one), and there was a PC version alongside it. Also the deal they made with Eidos to have Tomb Raider as a PS exclusive didn't include PC. The first four games all had PC versions virtually day one..

I have highlighted it too.

In the official transcript the CEO makes absolutely no clarification. The curious thing is that the source does not even include a quote with that clarification and reduces it to a "trust me bro."
As I said, in fact it is incongruous since there are already first party games announced for XBOX such as MLB (also in Switch), Destiny 2 major DLC and Marathon....

Personally, I believe that releases on XBox and Switch (beyond those mentioned) are not part of this larger multiplatform initiative to increase revenue. This is a process and first you would have to go through the step of PC games day one. It is practically as if MS were 4 years ahead of Sony in its transition to multiplatformity. In 4-5 years we will see if things have changed.

The difference being is that Microsoft's ecosystem is literally designed to push you into PC, I'm not waiting 1 year for Death Stranding 2.

Is there a reason you continue peddling that bullshit narrative? Seriously, I see you post this every time, and every time you get called out, you carry on and repeat it everywhere. What's up with that?

Bullshit narrative? He's fucking right.

Exclusives sell consoles. They always have. They always will. You stop exclusives, you sell less consoles.

You only need to look at the history of the hardware business to see how true it is.

It's a bullshit narrative that porting their games to PC killed Xbox. Xbox was falling years beforehand and the reason they began porting to PC was to expand their failing consoles. You guys are talking as if Xbox was doing great, decided to port their games, and then the descent began. It didn't happen like that. Going to PC was in response to low Xbox sales that they stopped reporting way back in 2015 out of embarrassment.

So, yes, his narrative is bullshit. The reason Xbox is the way it is now is because it didn't produce a steady stream of high-quality games for over a decade. It has fuck-all to do with Day 1 PC ports.

So Sony has nothing to learn from Microsoft and their PC ports...aside from the fact that porting your games to PC won't save your business if your games are shit, because PC gamers won't bite either.

Looking forward to all the stupid hot takes in two years over why exclusive selling Nintendo is destroying non-exclusive selling Sony and Microsoft in console sales.

It’s like the Xbox 360 never happened.

It did and by 2011, Xbox stopped caring about AAA 1st-party exclusives and shifted their focus on freakin' Kinect which worked at first but was a short-lived fad. Then the ill-fated reveal of the X1 happened with Don Mattrick demolishing the brand and effectively handing the victory to Sony before the consoles were even out. Microsoft began PC ports in 2016, almost 3 years after the X1 came out and the X1 was already underperforming by then. The beginning of the end for Xbox started way back in 2011, that's when the steady supply of good games stopped.

Their woes have nothing at all to do with Day 1 PC ports and you need to stop lying about this. Yes, it's the narrative you want to tell yourself but it's not reality. PC ports or not, Xbox has been underdelivering in the games department for almost 13 years. This is their problem.

They've already done so multiple times. People just have a hard time accepting it for whatever reason lol.

Their GAAS games will continue to be day and date as that makes the most sense but expect to be waiting nothing less than a year for their PS5 SP AAA games to go to PC until they say otherwise.

Never seen this.

Sony’s strategy has changed over time, so all of this is probably just new to the public, especially with Helldivers 2 (multiplatform).

…Which is wrapped up in conjunction with those fearmongering because of Xbox’s new third party ambitions.

It’s almost like it forces Sony to reiterate, as well, every time MS decides to lower the bar.

Congratulations, you do understand. They moved away from developing exclusive consoles games to other strategies, which marked the downturn in their fortunes.

Glad we had this talk 👍

And they began porting games to PC 5 years later. Once again, their failures have nothing to do with PC ports.

It's fairly obvious Sony was dipping its toes into the PC market on Steam. I fully expect a PlayStation PC client like Steam for the PS6 release - Perhaps much sooner.

You literally stated (accurately) that things were going well for Xbox while they were making exclusive AAA games for their consoles.

That doesn’t include porting those games to PC.

Again, use your brain, for your argument to hold some truth, there would need to have been a period where Xbox had BOTH great console exclusives that they ported to PC. This never happened. They had a small amount of shit exclusives that weren't selling, and to compensate for their abysmal sales, they began porting them to PC in 2016, after several years of failing to attract customers.

The PC strategy was a response to their failures, not the cause. Halo 3 was a smashing success and the best-selling 1st-party exclusive on the Xbox 360. Halo 4 sold worse, and Halo 5 Guardians, worse still and they haven't given us the final sales figures for 5, probably because they're embarrassed by them. All three games were Xbox exclusives. Was Halo 5 a flop compared to 4 and 3 because it was ported to PC? What about Gears Judgement?

Your argument holds no water.

I dont known if there is a consensus on the time-frame, but anything less than a year would likely cannibalize PS5 software sales or at least diminish their value IMO. Moreso if the PC version is better, cheaper and has free online.
