Avowed has pronouns

Worrying? Yes.

Deal breaker? No.

We are now at the stage where I need to pay attention to whether there is forced positivity and political dialogue that immediately destroys the motivation for the game.

Go to any corporate setting and almost everyone has their pro-nouns on their auto signature in outlook. We have two trainings on this a year to keep up with them all.. it's not that serious..

Joke post?

Im glad for you folks that you have found another game that you can drag through the mud and keep your little political agenda thing going. Fun times
A game can only be laughed at so much if it’s got some v-sych issues or extra long load times.

But when personal politics are in the game turning it into a lbqtb fairytale game it’ll be hilarious to see forums, social media and streamers go wild mocking it. And even more so when the game sales are bad and employees get hyper on social media fighting back.

Look how this thread has gone all morning and all we got is a screen cap so far.

No it isn't. Politics is often the "the line" people draw. That MTX exists does not mean other issues cannot be discussed.
Discuss it all you like. But its funny to me that the line is being drawn here, when more detrimental things to gaming were allowed to just happen.

I've been looking for a new job for a bit now, and I can't even tell you the amount of companies that have asked for my preferred pronouns. You either provide it, or you don't, and move on. I really just don't see stuff like this any different.

Why is this even an issue? Why this needs a separate thread?
Slow day I guess. Much like the beyond late reaction to the Nier Rainbox Six Siege collab that had been out for a year and some change.

Where did you get this idea that people are not able to discuss more than one issue at a time? When something "detrimental" to video games happens then it is thoroughly discussed. This topic does not prevent that.

It's just the way we are doing it now, it's a better system. People are posting the MS org chart with the pronouns listed, but that is the norm in the corporate world. No-one wants to put 'male' in their email signature - but ironically without specifying pronouns you are pushing for people to use they or them unless you think most people can tell which pronouns to use for Ravindra or Si-woo.
I don’t know about that.

I’ve never seen pronouns in any org chart. What I have seen is some people putting it on their outlook signature or LinkedIn profile. But never on an org chart.

Makes no sense to do it either. That would be like putting Mr, Mrs or Ms on an org chart too. The companies that do that is practically zero.

Interesting.

I’ve had lots of interviews from recruiter screener interviews or direct from the company the past bunch of years.

I’ve never had a person ask me for my pronoun.

You're missing the point.
The "line" being drawn is people talking about not buying x, y, z games because of "woke ideology". That's fine, go ahead and do that. But where was this energy over the last 15 years, where MTX were railroaded, DLC and day-one patches became standard fare. When pre-order bonuses and pay2win mechanics were being inserted in to full-priced games?

People complained, but still bought the games. They still paid for the DLC. They still FOMO'd the pre-order bonuses. They still made vague excuses as to why the game that they liked was the exception and its the other games that were bad.

I dont mean on an org chart that is probably on the extreme side, but stating your pronouns in your signature is probably 50% or more with the people I deal with. I don't personally have it in mine as it just feels a little weird, but it's not exactly something that stands out nowadays.

I paid good money for this Dynex!
The pronouns aren’t a big deal in and of themselves, but it does strongly suggest where their priorities were in development. There’s a mountain of evidence from just the last year.

I wanted to give the game a chance despite the iffy trailers and awful marketing. Pretty sure the actual game is bunk now, too. Time will tell, I guess… but zero expectations.

A lot of it surely has to do with whatever the company is based. Majority of the positions were remote. I sure as hell haven't seen that locally, lol.

Probably also the type of company. The companies I was involved with were manufacturers and a bank. Not the kind of companies that go ape shit on pronouns or rocking the boat in stuff. And all local companies with hybrid wfh policies.

Because it is a topic that is important to many people. There is an "ignore thread" button.
Weren’t the pronouns present in multiple other games, some consider excellent eg. BG3, CP2077 etc.
Because I love discussing gender identity politics with other young adults and middle aged men on a videogame forum. :messenger_sunglasses:
That’s the good answer.
If it isn’t an issue to you maybe sit this one out, chief. Sounds like you will happily buy up any game these companies put out regardless of whether identity politics are included.

Unless you actually prefer it?
I don’t have to prefer it, I don’t mind it, same I am not interested in protagonist, race, gender, pronouns, age etc. Such a stupid thing to judge game on. You will next tell me that you will not play game that is consider excellent/groundbraking because of pronouns? You call self a gamer? You want to make political statements. Video game forum is not a place for this.

The sad thing about this is how superficial it is.

I know guys who put it on their outlook or linked profiles making it look like they are progressives best friends.

But go out to lunch with them and they talk sports, and make fun of woke stuff or Lbgtb people. Two faced. One face for the career mugshot. Another face outside the office.

I hope many of you who eat up pronouns and politics realize many people do it for browny pts and truly don’t believe it.

It’s like when a company changes their logo rainbow in June. Most companies have zero suppprt for pride month except a logo change.

So you've somehow managed to enter 2 threads in a row asking for them to not exist?

This sounds like a you issue.
First I asked the question, and 2nd spring to mind why we need 2 separate threads about it, when it was already touched in the main Avowed preview thread.

That's fine. Start a thread complaining about DLC and loot boxes then.

I think if devs had left it at that then it probably would not be an issue, but fact of the matter because of games like Dragon Age Veilguard gamers have started to push back.

Subjects touched on in threads are often spun off into threads of their own. This isn't new and there is nothing wrong with it.

See if I see someone with pronouns in their signature - I just think are following fairly normal modern practices, and want to be called he or she or whatever, I don't assume they believe in anything.
I mean, I hope people don't think I am some pompous elitist asshole for putting Dr when I don't have a medical degree.

No surprised after that insider look.

It looks good but I bet it will be shallow and safe as far as gameplay.

All I see is this is going to make up some weird scenario that would occur in the real world.

No one uses pronouns like this when addressing anyone.

If you are a he in the same room I don’t say “hey he is eating”.

It’s stupid and compelled speech.

The discussion about these pronouns is just a distraction from the fact that the game looks mediocre as fuck.

Now they can blame low (user) reviews and bad sales on Woke.

Exactly this.

People ask what the definition of “woke” is and, to me, it’s this: “Woke” is when ideology is the foundation of a product and the actual game/show/movie is secondary to the ideological message.

The more I see of Avowed, the more it feels like it’s an ideology product first and a game second. Which I suppose isn’t all that surprising given the very in-your-face ideological messages in Obsidian’s The Outer Worlds.

I’m on my phone as my home internet is down, but find the half hour video from months ago where two employees narrate the game as they play.

Game looked meh. Find the part they fight the spiders and it’s cringe game and employee wise.
