This is the end-all-be-all. Though these results aren't world-wide, you would imagine something similar in the US at least percentage-wise.

It'll be interesting to see how Gamepass morphs after this.

My prediction, Gamepass subs retention will be about 30% over the next 6 months. Of those who decide to end their sub, some will buy the game outright on Xbox or PC Gamepass for the Multiplayerr and Zombies. Most will end the sub and simply continue playing Warzone. The ones who stay were mostly subbed before BLOPS6 released and are staying to play otherr upcoming releases such as Avowed, Flight Sim, South of Midnight or other indie games set to release early next year.

Future COD releases will not be on Gamepass day and date OR they raise the price on PC gamepass. $15 a month would be the target.

People acting surprised that everyone on xbox ended up going and subscribing to gamepass? What the fuck is going on in this thread.

The entire point of this purchase was to drive gamepass growth.

Microsoft subscription services is where they make their money, they want 40-50 million players paying $20 a month in the long term goal.

People acting surprised Xbox physical sales collapsed is bizarre take

I agree I just don't think they are going to keep these people on GP. Also they don't want 40-50 million. We've seen their projections, they want 100 million.

This includes digital.
There's almost 30M Series consoles WW, how many of those are subbed to GPU? Last numbers we had was 34M, including PC and Gold when it changed to Game Pass whatever its called.

They're already saturated/plateaued within their current base. In order to drive Game Pass growth, you need to drive platform growth. It doesn't appear to be doing that early on. We shall see in the coming months.

Loads of people getting a £70 game for just over a tenner, Microsoft just keeps on "winning"

Lets hope those new subs last for at least 8 months, or this is another massive L for GamePass and Microsoft.

Yeah, any one just wanting to play the campaign and be done with it will likely use game pass if it’s available to them

CoD knows who butters their bread. Been having a blast on PS5 while being sure to disable crossplay when going online, keep it...pure 👌

They will only lose the money from those who already had Game Pass and used to buy the game. They increased sales on Playstation and might have increased Game Pass subscription on console or PC. Isn't that their goal? They are probably happy with the results. The CEO seemed very pleased.

Btw, Game Pass would never increase sales of AAA and they know that. They aren't clueless and should have the data about that. It might increase the sales of smaller games due to the exposure.

PC is their big push forward now, 80% of the people that I knew as steam only signed up for this CoD instead of the yearly purchase so time will tell if they can keep people in with 1 CoD a year and the other good drops coming like Stalker 2 in a few weeks and people will sub up and forget.

Been playing CoD 6 months, I’ll just leave it next ones out soon is the mindset they want to grab.

Would love to see the % of Netflix users that don’t even sign into the app each month.

Everyone's trying to laugh at xbox without just realizing that regardless of where this game dropped, they be making hella bank on this.

meanwhile xbox when gaf jokes that xbox sales are down for cod:

I'd be curious to check the number of people that bought that vault edition upgrade being touted on the main page when you load into the game. Regardless of the game being on game pass, theirs more incentive to buy the legendary edition and get those skins and shit for 40 bucks (canadian) than spend money on the game at full price if you have gamepass. There any stats on those?

that would prob be a good indicator on whether the gamepass model for cod can survive cause its really the cosmetics and shit that make it money every year.

And yet all that money hasn't stop Microsoft Gaming from cut significant amount of jobs beyond the redundancy coming from the acquisition. It hasn't stop them from pivoting and publishing previously exclusive titles from their studios on there rivals platform. There making bank yet forecasting flat revenue for the division despite releasing more popular franchise in BlackOps than Modern Warfare.

Vast majority for Game Pass is on console. Steam is the behemoth on PC.

It doesn't have staying power on the PC. I know that will be their push, since they've all but abandoned consoles and the new narrative is PC, PC, PC... but as long as there's Steam, that is arguably an even harder nut to crack than the console arena.

That’s certainly their hope. I’ve given up on the idea that gamepass is going to work the way they want. I think the idea of casual gamers paying monthly for a catalog of games just doesn’t interest them when they play so little games as it is.

Hell I play games all the time. All kinds of games and even I’m not into sub services. Thought it would be for me because I hardly replay anything but nope just didn’t like it. They never seemed to have the game or kind of game I wanted when I was ready for a new title.

Who knows maybe COD will be what turns everything around but I wouldn’t bet on it.

15k PS4 sales. held back your 5TH game this gen just to get 15k sales. get fucked Kotick.

Sales are down across the board. Even lower than MW3 even though it was an off year. At first i thought this was physical only. Half of MW2 when Black Ops typically holds its own is not great. Disastrous sales on Xbox. I wouldnt be surprised if thats a typo. it is that bad.

i dont think in their worst scenarios, microsoft was expecting this kind of drop due to gamepass.
BO6 is getting a full price cash grab sequel next year. I imagine that'll drop a fair bit. I wonder did BO6 sales suffer because of the MW3 shit show. Kotick really milked every last penny to the end.

And I'm sure you remember what I said very well, but, like that occasion and very typical of you, now you continúe to insist on distorting what I said... Nothing new 😉.

PS. I repeat, phisycal sales data in general are irrelevant and, for a long time, is necessary to have complete data before drawing conclusions, whether for COD or for any type of launch.
A totally innocent comment that you ridiculously insist on distorting and that makes clear what type of uset you are here.
😉
I'm just telling you here's your complete data now, which includes digital.
What did it change?

As I was saying in the other thread the physical data is a subset of data that you can still get trends from, it's far from irrelevant . The only way it was irrelevant was if the ratio had changed at a rapid rate in a year on a particular platform and it hadn't at all. You were dismissing perfectly good data to suggest we don't know and xbox sales had not declined. Now you have your data. Now do you believe?

Yeah, seems that way. COD 2025 didn’t even have a developer assigned to it as of a few months back, so it’s unlikely to be much of an entry.

Yep. I thought MS wasn't going to mandate yearly CoD? But I guess they back tracked on that.

So what's going to end up happening is we'll get cycles of poor releases follow by good ones. That's not really a sustainable model for GamePass growth. People will just sub for 1 month and buy/play some of the older games that are "good" on the cheap instead.

If you're a CoD only player, how does it make sense to sign up for GP @ close to $200/yr or whatever it costs now? It just doesn't make sense. You could buy three full priced games for the price of GP. And the thing is - MOST people probably do not buy more than 3 games per year if we look at attach rates, historically.

So it turns out Jim Ryan didn't need to launch 12 GAAS games to recoup the potential losses from COD going Xbox exclusive. In an alternate timeline we could have been playing the new Naughty Dog game this year, sigh
Still don't get way they didn't just released the game. Surely they must be close to finishing development on it. Can get that they won't provide support but factions 1 was brilliant without needing support. Plus any sale would be better than not having any sale at all, so why not just release the game( as a standalone release rather than gaas).

I think for ms, the argument is that most people would need to buy the game plus ps+ in order to play the game. For a year that costs around 140€ combined, if not more. So, for these people paying 20bucks(or 12 if you get gp pc) a month will seem more palatable. Not to mention they get more games going the gamepass route

As someone who plays like 8 games year, it is clearly not for me. Time is far more valuable to me than money and it makes more sense to spend time playing games I like rather than rely on subscription offerings. I will resub when a game I like hits gp, but that too will be for a month or two. Personally don't see gp really working out but I can the angle they are going for.

It will be much cheaper just to by a game than pay for a year of gamepass then, or you think that people can't put two and two together?

I doubt they will even ever reach 40-50M.

It’s a good point, though I’m sure many people might look at it as the option of getting COD with a bonus of Gamepass, and what would that look like for them. After all they only have to play games they otherwise would have bought to make it worth it. Keeping in mind this conversation is about people converted to get cod through gamepass as a first time user. No one doing that is reasonably expected to have the attitude that they did it this way just for COD. They got it this way because it got them in for 14.99 and Gamepass with it and why wouldn’t they grab games off it for ‘free’?

The question would then be: what if they only play COD?

Lots of people only play that. Give or take 1 or 2 games on the side occasionally, effectively making it a 14.99 a month sub, just to play COD. (While Warzone is free).

It doesn't sound that attractive at all, tbh.

The Xbox division is in a huge deficit, and it has been losing money from the Activision acquisition since the beginning of 2024, so they're not making "hella bank." lol

If there's no substantial growth in subscribers then they're going to be well behind in their projections in many areas.

They’ll reach 40-50m.

100m wouldn’t be possible without launching on PlayStation and switch.
The last known numbers put them at <30M and they expect like +5M with COD on GamePass?
Even 10M they'll probably fall short of 40M and after it peaks it'll likely drop again.

GamePass isn't a great deal. That sort of thing works for tv/movies, not as much for gaming.

I'll honestly be surprised if they do reach 40-50M.

It really surprises me sometimes how narrow minded, business wise some of you guys are.

Only MS knows if it's lucrative doing this the way they have and it will be telling to us plebs quite easily with next year's cod and beyond.

Like many have said including HeisenbergFX4 HeisenbergFX4 cod is the test bed for gamepass now and it will be obvious, I think if this successful from how ms react. Far too early to come to any real conclusion. We are atleast 6 months from knowing the truth.

Still funny to read some of these posts.

Yeah, GP is such an amazing business-model that it forced MS to buy ABK and Bethesda and to become a 3rd publisher just to stay relevant.

Microsoft knows a lot and still failed to achieve what they set out to achieve. They thought cloud was the future, there at best decade to early.
They thought Gamepass was the future (you don't reach 100 million subs and without it being a greater than the 10-15% of the division revenue) that's a goal they've clearly pivoted from as can be seen from Satya removing any mention of it from he's bonus.
We know that through leaks to trusted insiders there was internal struggle on whether or not to put CoD in Gamepass.

Your right though only Microsoft has the data to properly judge the situation. However there are indicators that we can follow to understand the situation better. If like this quarter Microsoft doesn't mention Gamepass sub count (not revenue) increasing like the quarterly financial they just release then that's a red flag.

Microsoft is always too early with their business decisions. They see where it's all going but they are rhe ones who attempt to trail blaze it, poorly and get shit on for it. Rightfully so. Then the natural course happens of what they predicted and they ride it out the best they can.

Look at digital games. Xbox live. Now subscription services and cloud gaming.

There is no stopping subscription services. Digital future, cloud gaming. And it will probably pay off for ms in the long run but it's not going to happen now.

If they keep in the game they will benefit as they will be set up for this future better than anyone but we will see.

Nothing sensational about those numbers. PS was and will be the biggest market for CoD. Why bother buying it on PC/Xbox when you can have it from Game Pass. Last gen versions should go away - vast majority have moved on to next-gens.

TLOU Online was nowhere near complete. NDs own statement said that it had been in pre production and it was during the ramp up to full production that the scope of the game came into focus and they made the decision to stop dev on it. It wasn't even in full production. It was in pre production alongside the new IP while the rest of the studio worked on the remasters and remakes
