The Game Awards 2024 Nominees List Announcement

I wasn't expecting BG3 to mop the floor with TOTK last year, so I expect the Elden Ring DLC to win it.

Not that it deserves it, but the Media gets wet just by hearing the From Soft name.

Veilguard not being nominated for anything noteworthy, including Best RPG, is some real funny shit.

Here come the tears....

Imagine unironically writing that article. It even admits in the article it released to mixed reception. How can you call a game that got mixed reception "snubbed" for GAME OF THE YEAR? Fucking amateur hour.
Granted, the reception to The Veilguard has been mixed — and with its Metacritic rating settling at 82, a nomination for Game of the Year seemed beyond its reach (even though that is one point higher than Black Myth: Wukong, which did make the cut).
He does bring up a good point with bolded. I'm not really complaining, but it's really weird how Wukong managed to make the cut over games like UFO 50, Tekken 8, Infinte Wealth or Animal Well, despite having relatively worse critical reception than all of these. What's going on there?

I think it comes down to Wukong being received way better with players than critics, and how huge Black Myth was when it released. That's just my guess.

If Geoff is smart he will ensure that BMW wins. By the end of next year he will be hosting a new annual show in China and will speak perfect Mandarin.

That honestly just supports the claims that the event is purely a popularity contest and should be something for Geoff to address; probably easier said than done, I can acknowledge that as well.

For comparison, the goty nominees last year were
  • Baldur's Gate 3‡
  • Alan Wake 2
  • The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom
  • Marvel's Spider-Man 2
  • Resident Evil 4 (Remake)
  • Super Mario Bros. Wonder
This year: a dlc, a poker game, the second part of a four years old game, ... this year sucks ass. :messenger_anxious:

I haven't played Balatro yet, but I have heard nothing but praise for it, so I don't get this weird attitude against it. Should have more of an issue with something like Super Mario Bros. Wonder getting a nom, IMO.

Yeah, pretty slim pickins this year, all the same titles in every category. Think I'll just tune in afterwards for the new game trailers.

I knew it shadow of the erdtree would make it in. You can't ignore this. It's massive, and had a lot of things to do, many secret areas to explore for a "DLC". It can beat many full priced games released this year and even last year. Those who are mad should deal with it and suck it up. :messenger_tears_of_joy:

People are really mad at The Game AwardsTM

to me, this is more about "gaming media" feeling attacked, out of touch and being irrelevant.

It seems every year, people watch the show and then complain about how is more like an ad show than an award show.

can "gamers" unite and make this another rare incel victory? 🤔

Ignoring the DLC nominated to goty controversy, the list looks like a semi victory since the woke infested DA: VG was not included in goty and no major awards nomination for that game. And Stellar Blade and Wukong got there well deserved nomination in other big categories.

I personally laugh at TGA overall. I also laugh at GOTY. But a card game and a DLC for GOTY? I have a really sour and low opinion of everything modern gaming, but these are new lows for an industry already in the shitter.

Why does Dorito Pope hate Unicorn Overlord?

Also anyone shitting on Balatro in this thread has not played it, it's great.

As for expansions that were GOTY nomination-worthy in the past:
  • StarCraft: Brood War
  • Witcher 3: Blood and Wine
  • Xenoblade Chronicles: Future Redeemed
All of those expansions were better than most games that came out this year.

It's more about the perception of the show rather than the awards themselves. (the current situation could play a factor in the sentiment afterwards too)

But i can see how the show could overcome the controversy and the yearly reception if a couple of things happen:

1.Sony shows new games
2.Xbox announces PS ports

Speaking of Sony and xbox ports. I hope too see a new GOY trailer, Wolverine or the new game from Bluepoint and Neil Druckman. For third party GTA 6 new trailer and launch date is a long shot, but who knows? As Xbox ports to PS, well, I hope its Gears and Stalker 2.

the rumors say that Sony was going to do something or use The VGA to announce games and the Xbox port being Forza Horizon. but who knows

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
The potential of a Resident Evil IX announcement trailer is my only main interest in the show at the moment.

Even though it's not on PC yet, i would have chosen Stella Blade, for various reason's lol, it's got to be better than some of them on there.

Wukong over all other Games that had better Acclaim is weird, Zelda got robbed for that position. Elden Ring technically shouldn't be on the list due to being DLC, however that DLC is longer than most full fledged Singleplayer Games, so I understand their decision.

With this kind of logic every ubisoft bloatfest should be a goty contender then.

Surprised and delighted to see Balatro there, I hope it wins.

Sorry but Elden Ring shouldn't be nominated. It's DLC, and not a game, you have a separate category for that.

Wukong, I haven't played and I'm sure it's good, but cynically I wonder if there's something weird with that nomination. Seems like past years have been heavily sponsored by Chinese companies (specifically Tencent/Level 10). Maybe I'm just being mad ignorant though.

Was Infinite Wealth robbed?

My money currently is on Metaphor but I think Balatro has a real shot.

Well, that and to generate more traffic. In any case it's there just for the purpose of making Keighley more rich, it's obvious that it won't win anything.

Elden Ring DLC being there is not really all that surprising considering RE4 Remake was nominated last year. I'd like Astro Bot to win personally.

Did they really announce that DLCs and remakes are okay for nomination just to add elden ring DLC to goty? That's a Chad move right there.

You should ignore the GOTY awards completely, soley because they don't even bother nominating games that came out later then like October 15th. So nearly 1/4 of the years games just get written off. No nominations even possible for:
Dragonage
Call of Duty
Indiana Jones
Marvel Rivals
Dragon Quest III Remake
Stalker 2
Lego Horizon
and lots of others

Also zero nominations for Persona 4 Remake and Unicorn Overlord.
It was a fun thing when Baldur's Gate 3 won best game last year, but you really can't give the awards a shred of credibility.
