Silent Hill 2 sold 1 million copies worldwide

The Silent Hill franchise has largely been dormant, and SH2 had one of the worst marketing campaigns in recent memory. This game will sell well over the next few years, and by the time the next Silent Hill comes out, if it's good, it should sell much better at launch. SH2 had very little hype at launch, except for hardcore fans

Also, Konami stringing together a run of well received games would go a long way. They have fallen so far in the eyes of the gaming community

You can find the complete RE sales data on Capcom's own website.

Even though it's true that it's mostly newer RE games that have sold the most, the originals were still very successful.

Resident Evil - 5.08 mil (original release + both director's cut versions on PS1)
Resident Evil 2 - 4.96 mil
Resident Evil 3 Nemesis - 3.50 mil

All versions of Resident Evil 5 combined (original release, the Gold edition plus the HD remaster from 2016) make it still the single most successful entry in the series at 14.8 million units.

Silent Hill could only dream of those numbers. The original SH sold 2 million and SH2 sold over 1 million, but all subsequent sequels failed to crack the million mark (until now).
No one is expecting those numbers from Silent Hill. Point is the original games (first 4) were also successful, so it deserves its time to hit a new stride and early sales of this first remake suggest it is on the right track. Capcom hit the reset button and that’s where the majority of Resi’s sales come from and I expect similar for Silent Hill should Bloober continue to knock it out of the park.

No it isn't. How do I know? They had Helldivers at 12M when Jason said 8M LMAO

Game flopped on Steam, 23K CCU. PlayStation 5 basically saved this game, split is probably 80/20.
Persona 4 has sold over a million copies on Steam and has a peak concurrent player count of less than 30k. Stop looking at those numbers for sales.

What you should be looking at are the number of reviews. 10k reviews on Steam usually indicates around 500k sales. This game has over 12k reviews, so VG Insights are most definitely correct at their estimation of 505k on PC.

I'll buy it on PC once UE stutter is fixed.
Which will probably be... I don't know.
I can't bare all these stuttery PC releases anymore.
Found a solution for you:

As a massive Silent Hill fan this is wonderful news. It's been rough the past 15 years seeing the franchise fall into obscurity but thanks to Bloobers outstanding work with SH2 I feel there is a new hope of seeing Silent Hill coming back in the limelight. If they can remake 1 & 3 with the same level of quality as the second one, I would be so happy. And maybe after that they can produce an original entry. I hope Bloober is willing to be the stewards of the franchise going forward.
And that they take Ito and Yamaoka with them on their silent hill journey!

Fantastic game, just finished it.
Deserves the success which is far more impressive considering that SH was never that huge of a seller even during its prime on PS2 and also in the months before release a lot of people stupidly wanted this to fail poisoning the well of online discourse around it.

What is supposed to be woke about this game? Is it the whole Angela thing again?

1. Apart from some shots, I think she still looks pretty good.

2. This look fits better to her backstory. Abuse victims have usually a low self esteem and don’t try to look pretty.
I get it but let’s not pretend the anti-woke brain rot hasn’t hurt SH2. 5 minutes ago people were still posting anime avatar mods for Angela who actually just looks like her VA actress.

The brain rot runs deep. As deep as the labyrinth in SH2.

The game doesn't run flawlessly on PS5 either, but does have lower quality visuals.
It looks fantastic on PS5. The “lower quality” doesn’t make for a rough picture, because it is simply not running Hardware Lumen. Should the Pro offer that option, it will be close to 1:1 (visually) with PC.

SweetTooth hit the nail on the head. You deal with less stuttering on PS5. I have a PC that mollywops it, but know that I’ll likely have more issues at the beginning from a modern release vs if I buy a “lower quality” version on PS5.

All that said, I didn’t find either version that bad. I remember Dead Space Remake being far worse in the beginning.

PS5 has the same stuttering issues PC has even with a 7800X3D and a 4090, why do people think PS5 Pro will somehow magically solve these issues when the problem is very likely in the engine itself as it was shown by DF?

Well deserved. Should be even more.

With that in mind... I think it's too early to celebrate Silent Hill going back on track. Konami had way too many misses in the past 20 years and one great game is not enough to bring my faith in them back. Let's see how Townfall and Silent Hill: f end up.

Eh, the Remakes will be what continues to right this ship. Besides, as long as Bloober remains the team who does these, they should never, ever, be as bad as Downpour and Homecoming.

I’m absolutely loving it so far. Extremely well done remake and quickly becoming one of my favorites in that category. Hell, let Bloober remake Silent Hill 1 and 3 next! Fully on board at this point.

Third Bloober Dev Diary episode is finally out, THE TOWN OF SILENT HILL:

PS5 has the same stuttering issues PC has even with a 7800X3D and a 4090
This is not true. Not only traversal stutters on PS5 happen considerably more rarely, but when they do they only cause drops of about 1-2 frames.

Here a 77800X3D + 4090 already using DLSS Performance drop to 52 because of traversal stutter, when same traversal on PS5 stay at locked 60fps even in presence of enemies or drops a single frame to 59 and in the worst cases to 58.

DXdH9y8.gif

On PC later on, like in the Prison stutter gets so severe most users are turning RT off entirely to make it more playable (doing this produces more compromised visuals than Performance Mode on PS5 as lumen settings are inferior on PC), when not a single person complained about the same section on PS5.
In the first video there's that guardrail zone used by many to showcase stutter on PC, and it stays at locked 60fps on PS5 or at worse 59 for a fraction of a second.

All real performance drops on PS5, like the beginning woods walk or the multiple enemies pool fight, appear to be related to insufficient computational power only, which is something likely going to be solved by Pro.

A more interesting question would be if those distractingly shimmering reflections on PS5, on both modes looking inferior to any possible setting on PC, are going to be addressed.

Yeah, DF said you’d feel the stutters much less as the frame rate is lower and doesn’t cause those full on pauses/stops that happen with PC. I’ve had a few on PC, with nothing if the sort happening on PS5 (which I’ve stopped playing as I wait for Nov 7 😉).

Then you should go watch the video again. The graph only shows less stutters because of vsync since it messes with the frame-times, it doesn't mean they're not there. The only big difference being that sometimes the PS5 spreads out smaller stutters across 1 or 2 seconds unlike PC where you have 2 big stutters right next to one another for example.
In fact, Alex literally says that unlike many are claiming, the situation on PS5 is not better than PC.
So no, an hardware upgrade on the PS5 won't fix that, in fact, if they unlocked the frame-rate on the PRO and turned v-sync off it would be as bad as on PC since these stutters are not due to shader compilation.

Hope bloober gets a silent hill 1 remake greenlit next.
This is what I hope the most, Silent hill is such a fantastic game but those graphics need some serious update.

Also funny that we are now in the "hope Bloober gets to make" era lol. Who would had thought? Reminds me of MercurySteam with the Metroid 2d series.

pretty good for a once presumed dead franchise, but:

I'm hoping it'll reach 3-4 million by the time it releases on XBOX. I pre-ordered on PS5 but I'm currently playing it on PC, I should buy the PC version as well

Eh, what Alex says doesn't really matter all that much, he managed to avoid showing any direct PS5 vs PC stutter comparisons while offering that vague statement in response to the "many reports online would suggest" PS5 fared much better.

He was afterall so worried about making PS5 look good he deliberately separated these two (already perfectly aligned) comparisons:

nKpPpVS.png

8M8T1rc.png

By two whole minutes only to avoid having them side by side showing PC version not being on par with the "presumed" Epic Settings on PS5, and not before saying that additional but stable occlusion on PS5 "doesn't look that good anyway".

2GOuWrI.gif

Reports on the Prison are clear unfortunately, PC port is almost broken at times (ask SlimySnake SlimySnake ) and ignoring the issues would only allow these things to happen even more frequently, or not be fixed. And given this ain't stuff you can brute force in the future they would plague these games forever, which would be a damn shame obviously especially because here those hardware reflections exclusive to PC make a huge difference to the game's presentation:

Silent-Hill-2-Remake-PC-Visuals-Scale-Beyond-PS5-But-Stutter-Struggle-Cannot-Be-Avoided-2-37-scr.png

Especially in motion.

If Pro allows for PSSR IQ at 60fps with rare drops to 58, the experience would be good enough.
Especially when, even as is, you won't read any complaints about stutter on PS5.

Edit:

Oh, GudOlRub GudOlRub , just saw the laugh and hidden profile..

If want to take Alex word on this, against not only all the people in the OT, in the DF Thread and here saying PS5 stutter isn't a problem but every video material showing rare traversal stutter of 2 frames max in otherwise stable 60fps roaming, if you believe Battaglia to be a professional and a not at all biased person, chosing to ignore half a decade evidence of the contrary, you're free to do so. I wish you to enjoy the PC version, and hopefully PS5 Pro won't offer a pleasant experience either.

Have you played the emulated version? Really brings those pixelated visuals to the modern era and cleans things up, particularly the framerate.

That's true. But Blooper Team is based in Poland where that region has a lower cost of living. So the budget wasn't that high compared to a development team based in California.
Then it should be fine, especially if that's just over three days. Hopefully by month's end it hits two or three million at full price.

I'm just kidding. The Xbox version will probably sell at most around 50k to 70k units, and no more.
I hope they sub title the Xbox version Restless Dreams for nostalgia.

Shipments + sales. Not sold through. Same as Sega Atlus and the 1 million notice for Metaphor.
The initial shipments for physical sold out in the first 3 days. They recently restocked.

Worth mentioning the physical version being entirely sold out.
Estimated shipping on Amazon this morning was 3 to 6 months. Checked now and it's completely sold out again. Last copies from third party sellers were sold, two days ago, for €120.
For italian people who are reading this, you can still find it on ebay for the normal price if you are interested in the game.

Well deserved. I was extremely sceptical about this whole endeavour, but man they really nailed it. I hope we get a whole new SH game made by this team (and the Team Silent guys that joined in).
I have a soft spot for the original voice cast, but the fella playing James in the remake is absolutely fantastic!

Can confirm. I'm using 7800X3D + 3080 + DLSS Ultra Quality and mostly hit 60fps. Sometimes it dips below that in some areas of the game and the stutters a fairly few and last less than 1 second usually.
This is much better than The Calisto Protocol's stutter mess in comparison. Regardless, I believe they still should have optimized it more because having to use DLSS for extra FPS is unfair to players who can't use DLSS.

They knocked it out of the park for sure, but I'm extremely skeptical about Bloober making an original SH game, still. I say they remake at least one more SH game (SH1) ideally two more before we can start the conversation about an original SH game by Bloober. They had a substantial blueprint for SH2 remake, so I had faith they would deliver. They don't have the greatest resume on original games.

They should use that cancelled Silent Hill 5 concept that team silent was going to do before it got shitcanned for Homecoming. “fear in daylight” for their blueprint, and have ito and yamaoka on it of course. could be like a remake of a game that doesn’t exist.

The PS5 stutters in the same place a PC does, which makes sense as the traversal asset loading will occur in the same areas. The reason the frame time graphs look so different is simply due to vsync. Smoother frame times is a well known result of vsync.

And I wouldn’t pay attention to anyone on a forum stating they don’t notice any stutter. When Black Myth came out some players were convinced the game was a smooth 60 on PS5.
