Three days actually:

Four if they counted 11th. Hopefully the game is even better positioned by now, and Konami sees this as a success.
Probably 5 or 6, don't forget that SH2 was doing quite hefty numbers on Steam even during the early access phase.

Recent story trailer gathered more than 2 millions on YT (including re-uploads) and was met with universal praise. I'd say Sony helped to shift the marketing and perception quite well in the weeks before the release.

I seem to recall Bloober making some kind of statement with how they were unhappy with the way Konami was marketing the game.

As with MGS Delta Konami showed way too much early or rough in-dev footage. Story trailer for PS channel was created based on a release candidate and it shows.

The remake has sold what the original did in a month according to a Google search. Which could be wrong. Hopefully it’ll sell more. I say don’t watch someone play it, play it yourself. Totally worth it.

It's accurate, Silent Hill has always sold like shit. The series only sold 8.4 million copies by 2013. That's basically the entire series, since the games released since then like P.T. and The Short Message were free downloads.

Half a dozen games in the Resident Evil series have each outsold the entire SH series by themselves. It's a minor miracle the SH series has gone on as long as it has.

Considering that most of Resi’s sales occurred after VII released, I’m giving Silent Hill benefit of the doubt here.

I'm sure it's must've sucked for Bloober. Having their game marketed incorrectly, and so many gamers reactive negatively, when they must've known they had some good in their hands.

Developers don't want their publishers showing games too early nowadays. It almost back fired with this game as well. I remember just lik 2 weeks ago a lot of users here still had thise first videos in mind even though the msot recent footage was much better in every way.

First impressions matter.

People love their game announcements without CGI and with gameplay YEARS in advance and it just isn't doable nowadays.

The reason why I'm pretty happy with Sony's recent fashion of revealing their games very close to the release date. Ghost of Yotei doesn't need a CGI trailer because it's an in-game looker already.

With SH2 it was partly Konami's own tauma with the whole Kojima mess. They were craving for at least some sort of faith in them and validation, that's why even Short Message was totally free and that's why they've reveale SH2 Remake too early with a rough footage.

Worth mentioning the physical version being entirely sold out.
Estimated shipping on Amazon this morning was 3 to 6 months. Checked now and it's completely sold out again. Last copies from third party sellers were sold, two days ago, for €120.

Best Buy, Target, Amazon, Walmart, and Gamestop all have it in stock tho

You can find the complete RE sales data on Capcom's own website.

Even though it's true that it's mostly newer RE games that have sold the most, the originals were still very successful.

Resident Evil - 5.08 mil (original release + both director's cut versions on PS1)
Resident Evil 2 - 4.96 mil
Resident Evil 3 Nemesis - 3.50 mil

All versions of Resident Evil 5 combined (original release, the Gold edition plus the HD remaster from 2016) make it still the single most successful entry in the series at 14.8 million units.

Silent Hill could only dream of those numbers. The original SH sold 2 million and SH2 sold over 1 million, but all subsequent sequels failed to crack the million mark (until now).

Xbox would have done next to nothing here.

As for comparisons to Resi, a bit pointless as that is much bigger than Silent Hill.
That's why I made the comparisons. The point of the comparisons is that it sold a third most recent entries of the highest selling horror franchise out there. That's pretty darn good.

Apparently its around 500K on Steam, so the PS5 version also sold around 500K:

Playtracker reports 285k estimated players on Steam, suggesting a likely 70/30 sales split between PS5 and PC.

Depends on the development budget and production cost. One million in a week is a great start for a game with less than a $100 million budget. Anything over that and no, it's not enough to make a profit anytime soon
That's true. But Blooper Team is based in Poland where that region has a lower cost of living. So the budget wasn't that high compared to a development team based in California.

I will always love you, Konami Digital Entertainment...
Congrats to Bloober Team for such a GOAT release, best game this year alongside Astro Bot.

I can imagine by this year's end - through a combination of positive word of mouth, Black Friday, and Christmas sales, Silent Hill 2 remake will sell around 3 million copies give or take. That will be enough to cement the revival of the Silent Hill franchise; not only for the continuation of the franchise, but also the greenlight for remakes of Silent Hill 1 and 3.

Really wish we had some idea of the budget. Very curious to know how well it did relative to that.

In hindsight, Konami must have been pleased with Bloober's work before launch because they were teasing future projects with Konami.

Pretty damn good, SH was overshadowed by Resident Evil back in the day. And the last couple of games kinda killed the franchise so it never reached the popularity it deserved.
I'm sure PT being cancelled, pulled out of the Store and becoming a gaming lost media somewhat helped in keeping the franchise in people's mind. That and the sudden appreciation for the 2006 film adaptation I've been seeing lately makes me think Silent Hill as a franchise is more popular now than it was 10+ years ago.

I mean GAF absolutely sold me on it by word of mouth. It's really fucking good and I've seen people talk others into it on several Discord channels etc. now even after initially shitting on it like I did.

Yup. The early 2010s was the last time we saw anything from the Silent Hill franchise before Konami went off the deep end, abandoning game development around the time Kojima's resigned from the company in 2015 after the shipping of Metal Gear Solid V: Phantom Pain.

VGInsights is the more accurate of the two, with a +/- 15% room for error. So roughly ~505k units sold as of now.
No it isn't. How do I know? They had Helldivers at 12M when Jason said 8M LMAO

Game flopped on Steam, 23K CCU. PlayStation 5 basically saved this game, split is probably 80/20.

I heard that Konami hired Square Enix financial forcaster! so sales in fact are DISAPPOINTING 🤣

On a serious note: congratulations to Konami/Blooper. game deserves every sale, phenomenal.

As a massive Silent Hill fan this is wonderful news. It's been rough the past 15 years seeing the franchise fall into obscurity but thanks to Bloobers outstanding work with SH2 I feel there is a new hope of seeing Silent Hill coming back in the limelight. If they can remake 1 & 3 with the same level of quality as the second one, I would be so happy. And maybe after that they can produce an original entry. I hope Bloober is willing to be the stewards of the franchise going forward.

So 1 million in 3 days. Not bad, Konami, not bad.

I hope their forecast wasn’t 5 million in a day. :/

Also, might be wrong, but this looks like an expensive production. Compare it with Alone in Dark that probably cost 40 million and the level of fidelity and tech is 2 generations away.

Unfortunately no sex with bears to make it go viral

Game is amazing. Should be 3-4x this number.

Buy it, people

I'll buy it on PC once UE stutter is fixed.
Which will probably be... I don't know.
I can't bare all these stuttery PC releases anymore.
