The update screwed up my Play as Ada mod but I don't think I'm going to fix it lol

I won't stand for this slander, she's a billion times better now in (almost, no skirt) every aspect imo; I never wanted to see her again after finishing the OG, now I want her to follow up on getting training and appear in a new game.
That's what I was saying, OG has a much worse Ashley. She's probably the biggest improvement

Close one.

Got S+ on standard difficulty with only 8 minutes to spare. 8 frikkin' minutes. I was trippin' dawg.

Killing stuff isn't the problem. I had an infinite handcannon starting from chapter 7. The problem is you gotta play like it's a survival horror and just run past everything because of time constraints. I honestly feel like hardcore might be easier because you gotta finish the game in 5:30 hours instead of just 5:00. Guess I'll find out but more powerful foes don't matter with an infinite ammo upgrade ticket, I think.

Oye! I can count the number of games for which I've gotten all achievements on two hands. Two hands that were involved in industrial accidents so they're missing digits.

Loved the OG. Loving this game. Love the challenges, since I wanted excuses to go back in and play it again and again. I still have one challenge left: Complete a new Professional playthrough with no bonus weapons. And even though this will be my ~6-7th playthrough, I'm still looking forward to it because it's going to be refreshingly tough after blasting through a few rounds with the Infinite Rocket Launcher.

Well, it seems Capcom has downgraded graphics on xbox series x after the update. It's more responsive and stays at 60 fps much more even in resolution mode, but the image is dirtier and there's aliasing and shimmering. It was way better before, I'm pissed.
Thank fuck I finished it before they pulled that crap. I would be fucking furious if they made the graphics worse on purpose, in the middle of my fucking playthrough.

I played OG last year when the HD mod released. It's still fantastic. I'm going to play it again when I'm finished with 4R, too.

Tell that to the PRL and the dedicated Mine Thrower with its exclusive homing mine upgrade. Maybe I just haven't noticed it, but I don't think I've seen a head explode from a suplex.

Maybe scripted wasn't the best word for it (set pieces, perhaps), but I'm trying to avoid specifics as I don't like to spoil things for people. If you've finished it you know the bits you don't want to replay. One near the end is nearly as bad as MGS4's end.

You have a point with the QTE cutscene and a few moments otherwise where button mashing turns handles faster, but 4R throws "Mash/Hold A" at you constantly with the meter for escaping an enemy grab. If you want to compare counts, 4R has far more of it than 4.

Interrupted, but cutscenes are clearly separated from gameplay and I find that preferable to the radio scenes where you can sort of play but sort of not because it's basically a slow walk. They're okay first time round because you can still pick up items and kick boxes, but after that they're just in the way.

Krauser's story is, but his VA isn't. I was talking about VAs, hence the inclusion of Merchant in the list. I never questioned the fleshed out world of 4R, which is undeniably better. Everything makes a lot more sense.

Maybe you're just not English, but in the original Merchant is just a bit Australian. It's great. In the Remake he's a tryhard pale imitation that is trying to sound like he's from London but throws in bits of Northern accents and god knows what else. It's a mess, and it in no way sounds as good as the original. You're trying to defend a version of the character that is trying and failing to be what you're writing off as nostalgia. I'm not saying I don't like the extra little lines, but they should have been read by a better VA or directed by a better director.

I don't know how anyone can argue that OG 4 is not more of a pure game experience. It doesn't try to be cinematic, everything is in service of the gameplay. And when I'm talking about replayability, none of the extra stuff matters. 4 wasn't concerned with anything but fun, which shows on subsequent playthroughs.

Original also doesn't have the odd camera following that slows down with each step, either. I hope someone mods that.
The merchant in the Original is the same VA as Leon in the original by the way. I do like new Leon but nothing touches Paul Mercier.

NOICE.

I got this a few days back. Currently in the middle of my Hardcore S+ run.

I've left the 'get S rank in all shooting range' and 'finish game w/ just handgun and knife' for the end because the shooting range has been the hardest thing for me so far lol, mostly because of the Xbox dead zones but the new patch has greatly remedied that.

I've been playing on PC with a controller but switched over to M+KB for the shooting galleries. I can't imagine doing the shooting gallery on controller.

It's less about pure aiming on controller.

Memorize the targets and set up your position while strafing. The less aiming the better sadly.

Reticule area could very much be smaller as well (handgun)

I'm about half way through a new game on standard ( having completed my first playthrough on Hardcore) I thought I'd try out some different weapons and upgrades etc before tackling professional.

So the bolt thrower. Some players swear by it but I can't really figure out what it's good for other than attaching mines. Fully upgraded it doesn't kill regular enemies with a head shot, they just stumble. What's the point? I thought for each encounter you could creep around the map picking of enemies with head shots but it doesn't work like that. Even on standard it's 3 shots to kill - I'm around half way through the castle, so maybe their HP increases by this point. I want to love it but it doesn't work!

Also, is anyone using the TMP much? I used it a ton in the OG but in this I'm sticking with pistol, shotgun and sniper. The full auto weapons don't seem to be worth the space they take up. Maybe the TMP on bosses?

If I remember right the TMP is good for shooting groups in the legs for the press X for roundhouse prompt. It's not my favorite gun as well. Serves it's purpose though maybe.

Hey Sleepwalker Sleepwalker

Started a new game and found the Red9. Thanks for the tip. So dumb I missed it first time around =/

Hahah no worries, it happens!
What visual settings are you using?

Resolution mode, lens flare off, depth of field off, motion blur off, for RT and hair I sometimes turn them on and off depending on what I feel like but I can't say I notice much difference. RT definitely not worth it, apparently hair looks better now. Need to try it

🤗

I switch between resolution and ray tracing. Doesn't seem to change much although I mostly play on resolution mode.

All the other stuff I've turned off since the get go. =)

How's your brightness? I can't see shit in some/most areas when using the "correct" calibration. So I just turn it up a notch so at least I'm able to see everything Haha

Yeah I find resolution the best, I honestly can't remember my brightness settings, but I like my games a little brighter than recommended as well, I find some are too dark even with stuff like HDR.

Yeah same here. And my TV's grey puts Earl Grey to shame lmao. But in the end I've found a good balance between spooky dark and able to tell the difference from a door or a window.

Strange. I've only had one CTD mid gameplay, the game automatically built a crash log for me.

Maybe a patch file was busted somehow. Verified files in Steam?
Yeah that's the first thing I did. It's not actually a CTD. It just freezes at a black screen and hangs until I kill the process.

I got around it by turning the controller on before I launch the application which works for now, but with the wireless dongle my controller will randomly disconnect like once every 6-8 hours and that freezes the game again.

Definitely looking for a long term solution.

I found the bolt thrower to be most useful for groups of 1 to 3 people where there's room to get some pot shots in. Also good for stealthily shooting someone without alerting the whole mob at times. The ammo you'll save adds up eventually. Just don't expect it to do too much.

I'm kinda the same with the tmp , I used it a lot in the OG but this one it's usefulness felt limited. Although I didn't use the stock either which probably hurts it too.

Just finished the mine cart section and said goodbye to a certain character. I was not expecting that.

It's nice how this version has surprised me with story twists after having played the original dozens (maybe 100) of times.

Excited to see how it ends. Only a couple chapters left!

I kinda wish crafting wasn’t a thing though, because I found myself crafting for most of my ammo in the Castle, and I could just do without the middleman of “resources.” It gives the choice of what ammo I need to craft I guess, but the game could also just use the OG’s dynamic ammo drops to give me what I’m short on and save me from the fluff that is modern crafting systems.

I couldn't agree with this entire paragraph more! Just have the enemies drop me what I need, fuggers!

Finished the game.

What a truly phenomenal remake.

Took my sweet time with it.

It tops remake 2 in everything except the setting, which for me was way more scarier than this one, probably because that was the first time I actually played Resident evil 2.

The gameplay in this one is so freaking good, it's insane. Capcom doesn't know how to make bad games in these last couple of years, do they?

Question, when I start a new playthrough my leveled up weapons carry over?

I'm on PC and have been playing smoothly for about 15 hours. Suddenly whenever I turn on my Xbox controller (using the wireless dongle) the game will freeze.

Anyone have any idea or similar problems?
I get something similar the xbox controller signal is interrupted, either through dying batteries or interference. Happens in other games too, frames tank to a slide show and continues the last input I put in. I really need to find a pc controller.
Don't know if it's related

Just tackling my third run on Hardcore and the game still rolls. Man…

Anyone done Professional on a fresh, non NG+, run? How hard it is compared to Hardcore?

Thinking about doing one more run on Professional after before I move on from this game but am not sure if I should do it fresh or with my maxed out weapons.

the FOV in the game is sadly really narrow even on max settings.
the camera is way too close too.

I also think the way Leon moves, and the way the devs programmed the camera to move can add to feeling motion sick for some people.

the issue IMO being that the camera doesn't move smoothly.
in most games, as you walk straight forwards, the camera and character model move smoothly with a consistent speed... let's say 2km/h.
in REmake 4 however leon and the camera move "more realistically". Even if you move perfectly straight forward, Leon will take a step and then slow down a bit as he moves his foot forward to take the next step, this gets worse if he is wounded or was recently hit.
the camera ALSO moves at those inconsistent speeds. meaning if Leon slows down for half a second, so does the camera, and soon after when he speeds up for a second again, so will the camera too.

so the camera will go from (again these are made up speeds for the sake of demonstration) 2km/h to 1km/h and back to 2km/h at semi-regular intervals, which is also changed slightly whenever you are even minimal change the movement direction of Leon, which is why I said semi-regular intervals.
because the way he moves his feet, and therefore the speed at which he moves, and the interval between him speeding up and down, changes every time you turn a corner, get hit, sidestep, etc.

for me this doesn't make me motion sick, but it adds to the sluggish feeling of the game as a whole, and why IMO the original game feels way better to play.

but I can see that maybe adding to making people motion sick.
if you add this irregular camara speed with fast mouse movement, I could totally see it being an issue for some.
add to that how close the camera is and how narrow the FOV is and you got a bunch of causes that can all add up if you're sensitive to them.
Yeah, not sure of the technical details as to why, but something about how the game moves make me want to barf. It actually wasn’t that bad early on; it seems to have gotten worse in the castle, which is strange if it’s an issue related to the camera being attached to Leon’s movement as you’re suggesting, then it should’ve been just as bad from the start.

I got as far as the castle when you encounter the first red monk who starts chanting and driving everyone apeshit, and I can no longer continue, unfortunately. I love the game but I simply cannot tolerate feeling like shit while playing. Tried to get wallet credit from Steam explaining the issue but was denied; reasonable decision I can’t blame them for as I had put in far more than 2 hours (was trying to experiment/force myself through it).

A lot of other complaints online about this. I hope it’ll eventually be patched, but am doubtful as the fact that there’s a motion sickness preset indicates that Capcom is fully aware of this problem.

I think the game is bad with controller support in general. If my DS4 via DS4W disconnects it won't ever reconnect, so I had to disable auto-disconnect for it. Now you've said that I'm less surprised by it crashing with how it handles controller connections.

Doing it right now. 2.5 hours wasted in the Cabin fight. It broke me lol.

Going back to do hardcore on New Game so I can get the chicken hat which halves your damage taken. The problem with professional is that you have to do a perfect parry which is very hard to pull off. Also, your weapons do shit damage. Handgun is useless, and shotty isnt a one hit kill. Ammo is scarce and you can only save 15 times if you are trying to get an S+ rank.

Professional NG+ was a breeze in comparison. I have the chicago sweeper and the handcannon unlocked but the lack of ammo until you unlock the exclusive upgrade is a real problem. I have Ashleys armor which helps a lot as you can just run through areas and enemies wont be able to grab you.

Id recommend you skip your third run on hardcore and go straight to professional NG+. Unlock Ashleys armor and the gas mask (better aim assist) and then do hardcore NG then professional NG. Hardcore is much easier because there is no save requirement.

Just unlocked the hand cannon, it was stupid easy in mercenaries mode, I even died on the last round and still got S

Yep, the original requirement was way too absurd IMO, but Capcom course corrected to make it way too easy now lol.

And yeah, I got a bit freaked out after dying but thank fuck they still rank you even if you die in Mercs.

Thank god for mercenaries mode. S ranked all 3 maps to unlock hand cannon. Way easier than trying to A rank on new game professional lol. I'm not trying to sweat that much.

Mercenaries is super fun btw.

Got the game at launch for XSX, just beat it two nights ago. Could immediately spot the downgrade with the latest update: lower res, jaggies and shimmering that wasn't present before, however, performance seemed to improve. Would have rather kept the launch code version.

Nevertheless, a great remake from Capcom. Hopefully they find a way to remake RE0, CV, as well as RE5. RE6 just sucks and should be forgotten forever.

Yeah, I did the same. Thank fuk for mercs (and Hunk, for that matter; it took me literally 30 min of playing mercs to get my HC). I maxed that thing, got it's infinite ammo upgraded, and then coasted through the second half of my professional run. Even saved enough money to buy the infinite rocket launcher. I've officially got every weapon but the sweeper.

Getting that S+ challenge will still be a bitch, but getting the plat in this game is reasonable. I fucking love the RE games. They don't hand you the plat, but they aren't one of those games that demand 100+ hours for it either. Just a few fun runs with a bit of planning involved.

Gotta say this remake misses a lot. Two weeks ago I completed the Wii version of Resident Evil 4 and had a total blast. It reminded me of how great the game was when I played the first release on Gamecube. Now the Remake is great. Looks fantastic, the gunplay is fun, and I like the extended lore. However, they changed some encounters that didn't need to be changed. I was shocked when I got to the castle when I did. They skipped a lot. The boat section was drawn out and lame. The knife breaking is awful and I am running out of ammo when in the original this was never an issue. I just finished an encounter in the castle that left me with 1 handgun bullet. I'm halfway into the castle now and these encounters are also far worse. Hope it gets better.

I don't think 20 S ranks was that severe for what you got, which was a very powerful special magnum that topped out at 99 power w/ infinite ammo that blew everything away. I think the remake Handcannon is underwhelming in comparison, downgraded to almost just another magnum.

Regardless of how disappointing the HC is, I expected to be getting the 12 S ranks with how easy Mercs is. It's not like people would complain, it is good fun.
