NVIDIA GeForce RTX 50 “Blackwell” GPU Configs Revealed

Cool.
Unless there is a major GPU breakthrough I suspect generations will be spaced further and further apart. 4090 won't need a replacement for a good half decade from now. We also have hit some serious diminishing returns on visuals. When is the last time you heard someone get excited about how good the graphics are in a game lol, don't forget we also will be bottlenecked by consoles with a certain power and cost envelope

Them introducing Frame Generation to the market has disincentized upgrading every generation. Unless they come up with some new tech exclusive to the 5000 series.

I think it all depends on how RDNA 4 performs. I very much doubt they'd let AMD get away with a win with the 8800XT in the mid range. For perceptions sake if anything.

Even with the business moving towards supply ai chips, they'd need a safety net in case if the ai bubble bursts.
I’m not sure they care about RDNA4. Nvidia knows they have mindshare and know that DLSS is superior to FSR at lower resolutions. Until their market share shrinks, they will continue to do what they want.

My performance predictions
5090 = 65%-70% over 4090
5080 = 10-15% over 4090
5070 = 5-10% over 4080
5060Ti = 4070 super
5060 = 3070 ti
Nah. Just looking at OP:

5090 has 33% more cores than 4090
5080 has 5% more cores than 4080 and much less than 4090

To be honest I don't see 5080 performing better than 4090, hardware is too weak. Only things that can produce results like that:

- much higher clocks than in 40xx series
- much more performant cores (better IPC)
- some new exclusive Nvidia tech but this would only apply to some new games

Still early next year? I've been toying with building a new PC, but maybe now isnt the right time. I toyed with getting a 4090 a few years back. My 85" TV draws up to over 600w+ due its 3k nit luminance. And it did cross my mind that a new PC with my TV would guzzle the ole juice.

I don't know man, Doubt Nvidia will make a new XX80 series weaker than the previous flagship.
after the previous backlash they faced.

I'm coming from a 3070 and eyeing a 5080

This upgrade is going to be glorious

Every new gen and always this bullshit that xx80 will be slow than last gen flagship.

I think my 1000w platinum psu will be fine. Plus I run my RTX 3090 at 80% power to reduce the heat & noise so I'll likely do the same again for the RTX 5090.
have you tried undervolting?
my 3090 acted weird sometimes when undervolted, so i use the 85% power limit for noise/temps (1600w psu)
undervolting should be the superior option.

i pray to the 512-bit bus church so 5090 it is for me.
hoping for a nice AIO watercooled variant so i can upgrade the fans and make it nice and quiet.

Going to be a huge upgrade going to a RTX 5060 TI 16gb Vram from my GTX 1070 8gb vram. Should be more than enough for GTA VI and Elder Scrolls VI modded since I'm sticking with 1080p.

Wait what kind of panel draws 600w? I’m assuming that’s at max brightness lol

The current generation Nvidia cards seem to allow for a decent undervolt but still, the 4090 needs to be fed quite a bit of electricity so you will certainly be pulling over 1100w total

Those Samsung chips are simply inferior to TSMC so the 3000 series were never good for undervolting or efficiency in general :/ at least compared to 4000

Yeah she can hit 3k nit. Very thirsty with HDR. Panel weighs around 63Kg. Hefty 85" 8k Sony Master Series LCD.

I had no idea there were consumer TVs that got this thirsty but I’m sure it also provides quite the experience visually…

4090 won’t really max it out anyway for an 8k/60 so just wait and see what happens with the 5090

Yeah the sum total of AI features across the last couple gens have been game changing in a way that a mere performance boost isn't. They will probably find some new features to gate to the new gen though.

We have come from x60 cards matching previous x90 cards to barely beating previous x70 card

3pAJ04j.gif

The 4060 does not match the 3090.......not even close.

And if you meant just range toppers

The 3060 didnt match the 2080Ti
The 2060 didnt match the 1080Ti
The 1060 didnt match the 980Ti
The 960 didnt match the 780Ti
The 660 didnt match the 580
The 560 didnt match the 480

The closest match up in the new naming scheme was the 460 vs 285 but even then the 285 was still some 15% better so not really.

And the 4070 isnt that far off a 3080.
If you count the 4070S which literally took its price bracket then the 4070S is actually faster than a 3080.

It's gonna be funny if 5070 ends up being slower that 4070ti super.

We have come from x60 cards matching previous x90 cards to barely beating previous x70 card

Yeah, no, this never happened. The 70 could match the previous flagship. The best the 60 did was match the previous 80. Not a single 60 from my recollection has matched the previous top card.

Man, i was talking about long time back when the 6600gt whooped 5950U and 7600gt beat 6800 ultra and GTX 260 whooped 8800 Ultra etc , may be shouldn't have included that but still funny considering
that now we have a x60 card barely beating previous x60 card :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Literallly 20 years ago?

Also the 7600GT didnt whoop the 6800 Ultra.....please be serious.
I still have my 6800GS and the reason I didnt upgrade to a 7800 let alone a 7600 is because it wasnt worth it.
Serendipitously I also had an 8800GTS and a GTX260c216 the main advantage of the c216 was actually the VRAM not that it was a much faster card, def wouldnt say it whooped the (2) generations old 8800.

my 6800GS. along with other GPUs i had in easy reach vs a 4080

yeah 7600gt didn't whoop 6800 ultra. That's why said it just "beat" it.
also c'mon man even 192 shader version of GTX 260 beat 8800GTX/9800gtx here by a good margin and ultra was just 5% faster than GTX.

point is now a x60 card barely beats previous x60 card.

The GTX260 was the xx70 of its generation.
There was no GTX270.
Nvidia used to reserve odd numbers for "supers"......so your xx60 comment still doesnt hold water.

Look I criticize Nvidia as much as the next guy.....cuz of pricing mostly(my work need CUDA so I needs em).
Ive been a second tier buyer since my GTX260c216 but the third tier card has never(not in my lifetime) been able to trump the previous generations top tier card.
The second tier cards yes, they used to be able to keep up or beat the previous generations top tier, but the 40 series pretty much broke that but only in regards to the 4070 not being able to beat the 3090, it does however keep up with the 3080 and if you include the 4070S then the status quo hasnt really changed.
The xx60s were a good buy generally because of price/performance.....not because they kept up with top tier of the previous generation.

Not really true. I run a 4090 at 4k and would still drop frames in Wukong at ultra settings. Things can get better and honestly the experience owning a 4090 has been so good I’m down to run a 5090 if I get that kind of wow experience with better frames. Ultra plus ray tracing is just an amazing experience and I think we will see more of that not less.

If the AIB 5090 is around 2300 - 2500€ I'm in. Who am I kidding, I'm getting that one even for 3k. 4k240 OLED monitor needs something to max it out.

I've heard the 5090 will be a little more expensive to create a larger gap between 5080 and 90 but the rest should be pretty close to their original msrps

Now take this with a pinch of salt because nvidia could advertise one price for their founders cards and the AIBs have to struggle to reach that price. So AIBs may charge more. Just like we saw with 40 series.

I don't think the 5090 will break 2 grand gbp so maybe 2199 to 2299 euro isn't a bad guess.

Do you know if there will be a 5080 Ti with 24gb?

I'm planning on getting a 7900XT as part of a new build before Christmas, should I hold off or is it likely nVidia's new stuff will drastically cut into my budget (€2000 which is €400 over my initial budget).

* Forgot to add I'd probably be looking at the 5070 gpu. The 80/90 cards are way out of bounds for me.

We don't know pricing and Nvidia has no competition this generation so they can whatever the fuck they want....as usual.
But I'd strongly consider waiting for the 5070 if it can matche a 4080S for a much lower price it'll easily walk the 7900XT and come with all the DLSS and tensor goodness.
