So I noticed at my local game shop it's 16,000yen for a us PSP model
Yes, the PSP shortage situation is so bad that at major chain stores they are selling the Us import models.
In celebration of Sony's amazing lost opportunity, I present to you the oosaka's king store's survey he took of his retailer friends: 2010's top Chance loss games(Around 12 different stores, in no way a valid sample, but fun anyways)
Games that sold-out quickly/ far above exceptions and retailers weren't able to get new shipments in fast enough, thus lost the most profits.
Retailers blame chance losses on the distribution system. Retailers take 100% of the losses on unsold games(no return system) so they are very reserved in ordering. If they order 100 copies and 8 don't sell, they are in the red. With profits like that no choice but to sell used games.
2010 Top Lost opportunity games
7. Metal Max 3(DS) The Legend of Heroes: Zero no Kiseki (PSP)
6. Corpse Party(PSP)
5. God Eater(PSP)
Retailer's voice
-I believed this was going to do well, but it ended up selling beyond my imagination. It takes a lot of courage to forecast a new IP is going to sell this well and then order that much.
- There were lots and lots of inquiries, difficult to deal with it all. From early morning people came in for GodEeater.
4. Monster Hunter Diary: Poka Poka Airu Village(PSP)
Retailer's voice
- I ordered weak because I was worried about how much monster hunter fans would accept the game, I underestimated monster hunter's power.
- Once again I felt monster hunter's power, Regular children and Girls customers were seen in droves. I did an order based on a estimate of 300,000 sales nation-wide and it wasn't anywhere near enough.
3. Art Academy(DS)
Retailer's Voice
- Educational software that doesn't sell, really truly doesn't sell at all. It's impossible for a normal buyer to do a large order of this type of software. Even if I went to order a large amount, other staff would stop me
2. Mag(PS3)
Retailer's Voice:
- Any store hesitates a bit when ordering Online only games: If it's online you can just download it. Also the fact you can't sell it used affects orders.
- Lots of inquiries, The wholesalers didn't expect the success at all, Tried to do a follow-order for the first day, wasn't able to get it.
1. Fairytale (PSP)
Retailer's Voice:
- Konami New ip Monster hunter-rip off: It's media exposure was low, so had no exceptions of it. Still, even today have no idea why it sold so well.
- Lately, Anime related games haven't had a hit, so I did a conservative order. There's a sequel coming out soon, no idea how I should order.
- If it wasn't Konami I would have ordered more, saying that doesn't help things though.

I've seen a lot of talk from publishers, about nintendo's distribution system being horrible for lost profits, takes forever to re-order. Any thoughts on chance losses/ solutions? Why has sony messed up so badly?
