So do you think they would have let people stream games from their online servers for free?

Of course not. Lack of server maintenance was simply not the "big difference" between success and failure that you suggested it was.

Yeah you just wasted both our time with this argument that you tried to create.

Nah....you repeatedly dodging the point was the time waster here.

Can the portal cast to a TV? Like is it a way to completely remove the need for a ps5, is it handheld only?

No. It remote play from a PS5 or cloud streaming using PS Plus Premium. It only is playable on its display and can not cast or output to a TV

Thanks. Was asking for a friend, he recently got rid of his xbox as he got a Samsung TV gamespass built in, so wondered if he could do similar by buying a portal…seemingly not. Does seem an unfortunate omission that it can’t be used like the steam deck. V2 I suppose.

As it's a streaming only device, casting out to a TV would add additional latency that would likely make it unacceptable to use for many. It would be latency on top of latency.

A v2 or the handheld could maybe include an HDMI port. Casting wirelessly will no doubt have mixed results

I didn't dodge anything your whole argument was pointless.

You're acting like you don't understand why I said something that was simple to understand when you're clearly not dumb.

I understand the point I was making. Clearly you don't. Probably best to just leave it at that.

I think not that they are doing much wrong. MS decides just to take another way. Away from the classic "releasing a console and produce AAA Titles every 8 years" to the streaming service king. I use ist also in some cases, and I am a 45 year old gamer. It works.

But the classic way of doing things is working for Sony and Nintendo. So why did MS have to go away from it?

Xbox biggest advantage is Azure when it comes to the future of "Off-Console Gaming" but with Portal in the mix there is a reminder that there is close to 50 million PlayStation servers in people's homes around the world & growing.
While it's true that PlayStation's 50 million consoles in homes provide a compelling network of potential "edge servers" for off-console gaming, Xbox's Azure advantage remains significant for several reasons: Azure's global infrastructure, scalability beyond hardware, consistency and maintenance, multi-Platform Integration, AI and Machine Learning Integration. Gaming isn’t just about installed base but about creating an infrastructure that can scale and adapt to the evolving ways people play.

Read the market wrong: it's like when tablets was taking over then Wii U happened & everyone thought it was over for consoles.

It makes you wonder why MS has ever been in the video game industry in the first place. And was it all a trojan horse for something else......because I can't understand how they read the market that wrong.

It was because of the threat that PlayStation was going to take over the living room & do most of the things people was buying PCs for.

Strangely while Xbox & PlayStation was fighting for the living room other companies like Apple , Amazon & Google took over the whole house & the outside. Now everyone is fighting for outside lol
