Id argue that if Sony can quickly progress their cloud streaming out of beta and add purchased games to games available to stream, Portal is not only a serious threat to Xbox, but Switch 2 as well.

Especially if they drop Portal 2 with OLED, Wifi 7, Bluetooth, and some QOL upgrades. $249.99 with 1 year PS Premium would be killer.

Different audience Portal isn't a threat to Switch 1 or 2 , there is no Mario Kart on Portal .

If Sony is looking to really push PS+ numbers, they should drop the price of the Portal to 150 and release the OLED Portal for 200.

I agree with WiFi 7, but also think there's probably no chance of Bluetooth. Probably too early for QOL updates too, other than maybe better speakers.

I think you have to be careful about giving away a full year of PS+ though. You probably want to do like 3 months.

I think a PS Portal at 150 and 200 (LCD and OLED) and a PS Handheld sandwiching the Switch 2 might be pretty effective.

I think Sony is in an interesting position where they get to see the Switch 2 for all its glory. Price, specs, features.

I think Sony can match that and raise by maybe 50-100 dollars. Take a cut on hardware sales release a machine more powerful and with a better games library.

Xbox biggest advantage is Azure when it comes to the future of "Off-Console Gaming" but with Portal in the mix there is a reminder that there is close to 50 million PlayStation servers in people's homes around the world & growing.

How can you not understand it Portal is succeeding where Google Stadia just failed & the biggest difference is that Sony don't have to maintain the servers because they are in people's homes.
The " Threat" is real & the battle is now off-console gaming .

PlayStation Portal vs All The Xboxes

So basically, Sony went in a different direction than what you originally alluded to. I don't think any of this is really that significant with Microsoft moving more into third party territory.

The hell are you talking about? Cloud streaming was always in their plans , adding it doesn't take away from the fact you can stream your games from your PS5.

No, Cloud gaming is pretty much or literally inexistent in most parts of the world and that won't really change as much as people believe, I've had great connection from different providers and internet quality still differs a lot from place to place within regions of a third world country, but the only thing never changing is lack of pristine quality, it's never that way no matter where you go and that's something Sony or Microsoft can't fix

But Portal can work even when your Internet is off as long as you're on the same network so you should be able to enjoy it & many parts of the world. Internet problems should only effect you when you're away from home.

You said the "big difference" was Sony didn't have to maintain servers because PS5 was in people's homes. Why were you making such a point about that if having to maintain servers was always part of the plan?

Did all the PS5s magically stop working?

Bloomberg has just reported a new Sony handheld is in the works. I didn't see a thread about this and I could not see the article since it is being paywalled. I am still excited with anything about PSP2

Ok....you don't have an answer. Got it.
I don't have a answer for what? PlayStation Now existed years ago & it was said that cloud streaming would be added to Portal later from the start.

Where is the part that you feel has changed in what I said about Portal being a bigger threat to Xbox than the PS5 itself when it comes to off-console gaming?

You said Portal succeeded where Stadia failed because Sony didn't have to maintain servers. I quoted you directly on that. That's what I've asked about.....going on the third time.

And how does this change anything?

Portal succeeded where Stadia failed before Sony added cloud streaming to Portal.

So the big difference wasn't really a matter of having to maintain servers at all. Makes sense because that really isn't where Stadia failed.

Portal would have also failed if it was Cloud subscription only . So yes the big difference is Sony didn't have to maintain servers & charge a subscription for people to play games on Portal.

Maintaining servers wasn't really a relevant factor except maybe due to Sony just not having the infrastructure ready, but yes, subscription only would have been a disaster.

So do you think they would have let people stream games from their online servers for free?

Yeah you just wasted both our time with this argument that you tried to create.

How do you know this?
For November Portal is number 35 & Xbox isn't even in the top 100

Edit:

Portal is #49 for the year & Xbox Series X is #81 with Series S out of the top 100

Microsoft itself is it's biggest threat. It's just dumb decisions after dumb decisions.
Their competition don't need to do anything.
I think not that they are doing much wrong. MS decides just to take another way. Away from the classic "releasing a console and produce AAA Titles every 8 years" to the streaming service king. I use ist also in some cases, and I am a 45 year old gamer. It works.
