I apologize PC brothers: Pc games is much cheaper than consoles in the long run.

It's like the ink and the printer analogy. Give the printer away for a low price, charge a fortune for the ink. You pay more for the hardware, with a pc, but the money you save on games (especially if you buy lots of them) is pretty insane. Plus paying for online with consoles sucks.
For me when I can buy 15 games for $200 bucks in a sale as opposed to just one game for $70 on a console it's no contest. Plus, the PC is always going to be more useful in the long run. Granted I'm more of an indie/play a triple a game later type, but it works for me.

*Actually, Sony has ruined the ink and printer analogy with the Pro. Pay more for your hardware, pay more for your games, lets add a sub for online on top of it all. LOL!!!

Nintendo's opinion is not law
The law can be interpreted variously, but Nin for sure has better lawyers.
I seriously doubt that you even has the right to copy from from your switch and it's copyrighted content for sure.

In the US, jailbreaking falls under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act, which covers digital copyright issues. Section 1201 of the law makes it illegal to circumvent digital locks that protect access to copyrighted works, which can include software.

So, I thought this was actually the case as well, but when I look at Monster Hunter Wilds on Steam it will cost me €69, while I could probably pick up a physical PS5 copy for €59…

Unfortunately we live in a world where having the better lawyers usually wins. This why Nintendo is so successful at being such a bully. Whether or not doing so with Switch is breaking the law is debatable and really is beyond the scope of this thread. But you made a very broad statement that ripping games from media is illegal. That's not necessarily the case.

I'm pretty new to PC gaming, but basically never buy directly from Steam?

Are all these key sites legit? I did some searching and thought it was probably some scam shit..
There are official and unnoficial key sites. Official ones sell keys provided directly by the developer and are safe, unnoficial key sites take the keys from third parties and the origin of these keys is uncertain.

GG deals will tell you which ones are and aren't safe.

If you bought a gimped 12GB 4070 and expect it to last, you are going to find out pretty soon (next gen) it’s not gonna cut it for long. You get some added utility from a PC but a new build is certainly not cheaper than a console in the long run.

There are some keysite which sell you stolen keys which can be reverted. Never had one myself, but if it happens they devs get actually charged for it. Some devs even said pls pirate our game before you buy from certain sources.

Hell, on some countries like mine Steam sell new games like half the price of the sames games being sold on PSN due to the use of local currency.

Now check on third party key websites - CDKeys, Eneba etc. A lot of the games are significantly cheaper on there. Hifi Rush on CDkeys is $11.69 CAD.

Sale or no sale, they're usually a lot lower.
Now check the cost of PSN top-ups on same site - usually around 10% less than the credit amount - thus effectively 'reducing' the cost of buying the games.

Nintendo's opinion is not law
Unfortunately, they are making headway making their opinion law. The people they are trying to sway are probably crusty old timers who don't understand gaming as a culture, only in the most basic, legal sense. Nintendo won't stop until even the tiniest microcrosim of control is it's grasp. YouTube, emulation, games played at tournaments, etc, etc.

The "funnest" company in the world pretends to be Mario and Link to the public but are really Bowser and Gannon behind the scenes. In fact, Bowser works for the company. So, there you go!!!

As much as I respect Nintendo on the gaming side, I do find them to be rather terrifying/scary when it comes to the business side.

In most cases ripping content from a medium is illegal, because selling you a right to content doesn't include right to copy it most of time, even privately. Laws named copyright for a reason.

Emulators, unless they are explicitly given right to do so, are at best at law edge but most of the time beyond it. And players use all sort of excuses to justify it even though they are clearly not right here.

might be true for you, but not always the case.
PS5 + PS Plus is probably cheaper than decent gaming rig + gog, humble, EGS freebies (and occasional steam, EA, UBI freebie), which is 99% of my gaming, because I barely spend money on games. I am one of the worst customers anyone can have.

Physical games aren't 45-50 bucks on release day.
You don’t need to buy on release day or brand new. Probably, the only case where physical is too expensive is when it comes to these limited print games. Also, some of the indies won’t get a physical release, so PC will probably have a better price.

Just to add, PS Plus and Game Pass is nice, but you don't actually own the game, so this should be taken into account.

I know that at least on Eneba there is another fee for using credit card so the discount is barley worth it.

Wrong.
In most of Europe you even have the explicit right to make up to x private copies, for explicitely private use ofc.
The rest of the world aside from the US has similar laws or simply doesn`t care.
And even in the US the private copy is not necessarily at odds with the DMCA as long as you don`t get mail from expensive lawyers threatening to accuse you of distributing said private copies as means for making money or proliferation of piracy in general.

This topic isnt about Emulation, and frankly, most people couldnt care less about the legality of emulation.

Yeah, I was going to buy Space Marine 2 on Eneba the other day because it was $40 until I remembered after the fee and tax it was only $2 less then Steam so I bought it on Steam.

I'm not against emulation even if I personally don't like it but emulation of currently released devices shouldn't be allowed.

Hope you'll enjoy your new games op.
I'll just add that to me a great reason to play on PC is the fact that you can choose how to play. You can play on a table, couch setup, you can choose the very parts of your build. And of course you have all the graphic options to adapt your experience to your needs and possibilities.

its cheaper in the long run but most importantly if you want the best place to game and premium experiences then that is PC. its like most things in life, you get what you pay for.

Just avoid G2A and you'll be fine. It's no longer like it was 10 years ago when you bought a game and got a photograph of the code from a boxed Turkish copy of the game. CDkeys and similar sites get the codes straight from publishers nowadays. That's because Valve allows devs/publishers to issue keys for reselling on other sites for free.

I do that as well for my PS+ renewals and credit buy on sales. But stuff on PC are still cheaper generally. And I don't have to wait for sales to make use of said bought credits.

The games I do buy on consoles are usually on physical disc and I can do what I want with them, which is one few nice things to have on there. That and I've been shying away from spending more on PS after such a crap generation of games.

Reading that OP list the first thing i thought was "if i ever bought those many games i'd have games for 5 years". I'm fine paying what i pay for what i get.

I'd rather know the games i buy just work when i install them and not having to stress if my graphics card is enough or it's time to update A or B. Now i have o wait for a driver update so something works right.

Glad things are working out for you OP. That's why this is great. Choice is important.

Consoles have just as many updates as you need to install GPU drivers lol. Maybe more tbh.

One of my good friends finally jumped in on a PS5 yesterday, and only really plays Fortnite, Warzone, and weirdly enough Genshin Impact lol. $275 plus tax all in. He's even worse because they won't even get a PS+ sub out of him.

Agreed, consoles ecosystem is more expensive than pcs, but in some parts of the world you basically pay extra $1g for a premium pc build, and with tariff it's way worse. from my side, pc make sense when I spend on 100+ games.
