GeForce GTX 970s seem to have an issue using all 4GB of VRAM, Nvidia looking into it

I would upgrade to a 980 if Nvidia gave me the choice. My 970 is a reference card from Nvidia, so I literally can't go through anyone else but Nvidia.

If you feel that you were mislead into buying the card. I say contact them. It's your choice. Some people here have different opinions about this situation, but do what you feel. It's your money and your PC.

omg that laughter is infectious

That laughter made him famouse, the guy was know as "el risitas" (lil chuckles) who appeared in a tv programme with his borther in law (his most famous line, along with his laughter was "cuñaaaaaaao" (brother in laaaaaaaw). They were weirdos but people loved them and they became famous. Sadly they died some years ago.

Watching that amazing video made me rofl, and I nostalgied too :).

Whoever made that video is a genious

Sorry for the offtopic!

Thanks for the information. I was intrigued as to who this was and where this clip came from!

The choice of wording coupled with the mannerisms and laughing had me in tears.

There is no off topic in here. We all need a good laugh with this debacle.

Thanks for the info. I can see why that made him famous. I've watched the video twice laughing my ass off.

I permanently banned my 6 year old daughter from using the PS4 for mistakenly sending grief reports as it's too hard to watch or talk to her
The timing of this debacle is great for me, I was just about the drop the cash for a 970 but hadn't pulled the trigger.

Now I'm going to wait it out a bit and see if it has an effect on prices. (Or 2nd hand availability / prices)

Here is basically what come out of the chat I had with Scan.co.uk

Gareth F
We were only made of the situation on sunday, i will log your query, we will then be messaging customers directly asap regarding the situation.

H1PSTER
Ok do you know how long you'll possibly be when it comes to contacting the customers? I know under the sale of goods act 1979, because it was mis-sold to us we are entitled to a full refund and I would be purchasing the replacement through scan again.

Gareth F
At the moment i can't give an exact time i'm afraid, but it will be asap, as it's not a normal situation

What was the OP's Hitler video referring to as far as adaptive sync is concerned? They couldn't possibly be the same thing could they?

I spoke to Novatech in the UK and they pretty much couldn't give a toss, Nvidia says it's so it's fine was the attitude from them and they believe it was never misadvertised as no one mentioned rops or cache in any advertising

If I were to go up to a GTX 980, I assume EVGA has fixed all their fan/cooler issues or never had one with the GTX 980? Especially with an ACX 2.0?

Quote Sale of Goods act 1979 section 13 to them.

Click here, it is exactly against what Nvidia have done and if they don't respond nicely threaten small claims court.

I am done with Nvidia. What a waste of money and time. Newegg won't do anything and I doubt Zotac will do something for their customers.

AMD is offering discounts to 970 owners. I'm glad I never sold my 290. The reason why I got a 970 was because it was a great replacement to my 290 which was defective. I sent the 290 for replacement and Sapphire upgraded me to a 290x free of charge. That is how you treat your customers. I am switching fully to team red and not looking back. Again I feel like I wasted my money with the zotac 970 amp extreme.

It bothers me a lot that I did not get I payed for.

I'm wondering if I can get a free upgrade tgo a 980 out of this, because I recently just took delivery of a custom built PC with a 970.

No clue man. I'd love an opportunity to upgrade to a 980 myself too, because I wanted 4GB of RAM. One of the reasons I specifically bought the 970 was because it was advertised as 4GB. So suffice to say, this whole memory debacle has pissed me off. I'm riding this shit out though, because Nvidia fucked up I think there may be some consequences. People just have to keep up the pressure. Class action lawsuits are inevitable.

That article suggests MSAA should be turned off? Man, I wish I knew the differences between SSAO, HBAO, and all that jazz.

SSAO is relatively bad. HBAO is generally seen as working ok on Nvidia and HDAO (which should be better) working better on AMD because it comes from AMD (but still works on Nvidia). So Nvidia guys tend to choose HBAO and AMD choose HDAO (but you can exchange)

Nvidia just launched HBAO+ which is great and only on Nvidia

Yeah, there's gonna be some trouble out of this no doubt.

I send an email to the comapny, see what they say back, I might even throw in that legislation which was mentioned previously, in my next lot of correspondence to see what that gets me.

Wow, some people are being completely unreasonable with this future proof stuff, like 4gb is some magical number.

So when the card had 4gb it was ok, totally futured proofed, you are set for the years to come, no problem. Now at 3.5 it's omg this piece of shit won't even run games proporly 6 months from now.

Now, don't get me wrong, I totally get that people are upset for being lied to. You basically bought a 4gb card and got a 3.5gb one. I get that, it sucks. But I guess I just don't get the rush to get a refund. If you are doing out of principle I totally understand (unless you are going to buy a 980, in this case it makes no sense), but if you are doing it because suddenly your card supposedly isn't future proofed anymore... that's just silly. If your 970 will not be enough for you next year, chances are a hypothetical 4gb one wouldn't either. If you are bothered by not being able to max everything you wouldn't stick with a 970 either way.

If youa re running at 1440p or with SLI,it does pretty drastically affect your card's ability to scale based upon your previous expectations. That 500mb increase from 3.5 to 4.0 is enough to fit the framebuffer increase from 1080p to 1440p.

Depends on your rig a nd resolution how much this matters. SLI users at higher res are more affected by this than people with 1080p single card.

Some people upgraded from 3GB VRAM cards. Do you see how that might present an issue to them now?

I remember in the initial launch thread, with all the people who were apprehensive and waiting for 6-8GB Maxwell cards. I was one of them who wasn't even sure 4GB would be enough gaming at 1440p in a years time. Well, it stings even more now, as I'm sure it stings a little for most of them as well.

For scan.co.uk buyers, didn't get an email reply/can't get through to their phone (bad reception where I am I think) but I got a return through their live chat:

Mark
As an MSI customer I can provide a returns number, once the card is returned providing it is in the same condition as sold/complete and not damaged we can provide a refund

Not sure if limited to MSI owners only though.

oh god I can't breath. so amazing and so true.

To all the people that don't see the problem: Nvidia lied to customers about specifications. Doesn't matter how it affects performance. It's not the card you thought that you would get when you bought it. False advertisement and very bad businees practices. I hope they truly get their ass kicked for that (I know they won't). And I hope the 380X will be something interesting. Competition is the only solution, so Nvidia can't allow themselves that kind of crap.

PS. Before anyone says that I am an AMD/ATI fanboy: Well I don't care. I had a Voodoo1/2, FX5700 Ultra, Radeon 9500 Pro (softmodded), and many more...(now a GTX770) I don't care about companies, I care about the products. Everybody should.

I had a galaxy gtx 780 that worked perfectly fine but I upgraded to a 970 SPECIFICALLY because it was advertised as a 4GB card. This is y i am pissed. Also, I have no doubts whatsoever that in the next two years we will see a ton of games that push well over 3.5 GB requirments for Ultra textures.
