This channel made an interesting analysis of Sillent Hill 2 that makes you wonder what kind of guys are in the industry right now if a bloody YouTuber can fix their work in a few hours.
That "bloody Youtuber" is literal genius in this case, though.

They spent so much time implementing RT into the game during development that they have a Sunk Cost Fallacy about it. Can't let it go. Hurts their soul that they failed on that front.
The only explanation really.

I'm currently playing through the first game on the Pro and even it suffers from random slowdowns and what not on performance mode. Not enough to be a big problem but still wonder why it has issues at all.

Game's are just very poorly optimized. I remember the first one coming out with a myriad of bugs as well.

They are picking the worst games running on Pro! They did the same thing when PS4 Pro was released when they did full articles about how TLOU remastered was running slower (before been patched).

Where are the fully featured articles about Dragon Dogma 2, BG3, Monster hunter Wilds. Where is the full comparison between Spider-man 2 PSSR and PC DLSS? They seem to focus on the worst cases of games running on PS5 Pro, exactly like I expected they would.

Alan Wake 2 and this game are the worst games on Pro, litteraly.

I disagree that it looks worse in performance mode than before having spent many hours in the game. There's some extra instability sure, but the image looks much sharper/cleaner than it used to with FSR and you also get rid of all the artifacts that were very apparent in fast motion/combat which is most of the game really. Performance is extremely stable now and rock solid even at the worst parts it would buckle or stutter before. If they can fix the flickering vegetation, I'd be really happy with it. Really surprising it can keep a straight 60 even with RT while activating RT on even monster CPUs you basically flip a kill switch.

Imo those would be the most interesting to watch: games by third party devs that just also happen to be talented enough to implement a patch for the Pro without screwing up like with Jedi or Alan Wake.

We already know that first party games are going to look great. Show us all the other games.

I had exactly the same thought.
Can't deny that these pro patches are pretty crap though. I'm just glad they're games I've no interest in

Respawn are usually pretty good at that sort of thing so that's why it's odd that these games have issues like they do. Hope they get this one sorted before I get around to playing it but the fact the first game still suffers doesn't fill me with confidence

The quest to make consoles more like PCs has been absolutely disastrous for console gaming. Whoever's making the decision to put RT reflections and upscaling and whatever else over rasterization because they saw Nvidia do it on PC should have instead accepted that AMD is not Nvidia, and simply focused on performance and resolution with baked-in lighting. This is only going to get worse as time progresses, smh.

This game drops below 720p.

You know what they could have done instead of adding back RT? Increase resolution to make it cleaner, even leave FSR2 (PSSR has massive issues here) but have better image quality thanks to more power. They reconstructed to 1440p with FSR on PS5, 4K target would look better.

I freaking remember reading that the pro proformance mode is the mode to go..

These guys kinda delusional to be honest. You expect this kinda image quality and stability to look good on a big screen TV?

Just stick with the base ps5 performance mode and up the rest to maybe 1200p to 1300p. I think it is the RT that causing issue with most of the instability in this game. So 1200p to 1300p should be looking good just like FF7R.

Looks like they don't have OLED tvs. Can't see issues otherwise.
According to those who now are more quite than a 3 months old corpse , i am rocking it with this tv.

Never mind my 20/20 lasik extra vision that cost me a fortune or my big ass 2023 tv.

But hey i cant see for shit. Enough of the attacks. Lets call it for what it is even if its just a current problem its still a big ass problem.

Below 720p? I heard it wrong? It average around 900p and drop to 720p right?

Remember the glorious days of the PS4 Pro when just upping the resolution was enough. Some of these developers making this more complicated then it needs to be. When Remedy stated that upping the input resolution didn't make much of a difference for AW2 when deciding on the Pro patch, I didn't believe them. My first though was "I wanna see that for myself".

Watching on my tv now and I really can't believe how close ps5 pro patches are looking to the original ps5 with worse artefacts.

What an absolute mess this consoles launch is for third party games.

Devs really are showing serious incompetence here.
100000% if they asked sony for help, a sony engineer would be flown to their location asap to help them with this shit.
They are either too proud or too stupid to notice how bad of a job they do

They could have done many things, but it is what it is. I've played it and it looks nothing like 720p or what FSR reconstruction in performance-balance looks like. Image quality was rather decent in my experience and better than before. Like I said, if they can fix the flickering vegetation I'm good. Yes, they could have picked their battles better, but for an accumulation of bad tech decisions that this game has been, the result isn't as bad as DF suggests. At least to my experience.

Yep. As I said in the patch thread recently. For me it was a mixed bag, looking both good and bad at the same time. Performance mode on the base PS5, looked very low res, with awful distant detail. On the Pro, its now far clearer with better detail and distant detail and looks far more 4k like. But image stability on some edges and especially vegetation is very poor. I preferred it on the Pro though for sure.

Just as I gave up on base PS5, I also shelved it on Pro. Unfortunately it retains the title of Janky Jedi.

Should be simple: make the game run at 60fps, increase resolution as much as possible and voila, the game looks and runs way better than on the base model.

Instead they are being retarded. RT? Sure! Looks like shit? Who cares!

Hitting lower than 720P on that hardware is brutal. Ik DRS and everything but still..

Really if PSSR is soaking up that much performance, they might be better off using FSR. Which the latter isn't doing that good of a job at sub 1080P anyways.

Yup. Horrific work here. Doesn't look any different than ps5 really. It could literally be a ps5 vs xbox face off with one having engine issues on the API

Lol, I said this way before people complained about image quality.

Th RT at 60fp on consoles is not worth it. It eats all the bandwidth, GPU times, CPU times, and there is nothing left except low resolution and unstable frame rate.

But it dropped to like 20fps or even lower in Performance before on base PS5.. surely those instances are not locked 60fps on Pro?
But even if it is, some choices they made are puzzling at the very best. How the hell could they not see that AO crap, or regard it as acceptable?

What an absolute mess this consoles launch is for third party games.
Capcom being the outliner.. thank God, only third party games I cared about are all flawless.

FWIW I played through the whole starting city and then the next planet. Without VRR enabled and it was a locked 60fps the entire time.

After the patch that removed RT in performance mode, it was mostly 60 but there were some parts the framerate would tank or stutter. Koboh was generally the worst offender and after 2 hours of running around most of it on pro, I couldn't really get any noticable fps drops so I imagine the rest of the game should now be pretty much locked everywhere else. I Agree about the the flickering AO, it's way too obvious for someone to miss it. I'd say I have no idea how it happened, but the game has had terrible tech decisions from day one till now.

So just like the original PS5 version, the fix is to removed ray tracing from the performance mode. Ray-tracing this generation continues to be a mistake. The game doesn't even look that good to run so bad. WTF happened to Respawn, Titanfall 1/2 were masterful technically.

2 days in an you're calling for the mods.

PC gamers are the most sensitive group on this site.

You guys are weak sauce....like the most used GPUs on Steam.

They sure do love camping out in ps5 pro threads for some strange reason despite not owning one or having an interest in it

I guess countless threads of poorly optimized pc ports takes a toll and they need to vent their frustrations or something

Yeah I don’t think I’ll ever buy this console if third party devs don’t manage to master the hardware (personally not interested to replay TLOU2 for a third time or boring Horizon games)

They might get good results in two years maybe, but that will be too close to the PS6.

I am really not sure this Pro is worth it.
