It's a team based game. The entire game was built around team based mechanics. High TTK facilities that.
There should be some middle ground. I was watching some gameplay on Luke Stephens' channel, he dropped a full mag and didn't even take out the enemy, WTF is that !? Lmao (granted his aiming is not very good but still)

Played about 10 games or so. Its honestly not that bad, don't think so would ever pay $40 for it but I didn't hate my time with it.

It runs super smooth and the characters, gameplay wise, really do have a lot of different feels to them.

However, the characters designs are still atrocious. Feel like it even sucks more when playing the game because the UI and end game screen has such a cool retro 70s vibe. Like something more unique today, then you see the characters and it's clear they are completely uninspired and clearly trying to mimic other games and franchises.

The TTK is a little annoying. I understand it's a team based game and it's gonna be higher. I actually prefer that, but some of it is just ridiculous. I can't remember the character or class name, but I was one of the more faster/agile characters with a smg like gun. Got behind someone in the other team. Dumped a full clip, without missing a shot, and they didn't die. Wasn't like it was even a brute like character I was shooting at that would have more health, just a normal character. That's just absurd in any game, no matter the TTK.

Lol I just watched a streamer playing as Star Child use his charge ability to chase after a Teo player who was almost dead. I couldn't help but laugh imagining that dude screaming for his life right before he got murdered after running for so long

Tried one match where i did a respectable 16-4 (i'm usually not that good) and it feel like a mix between halo for the high kill time and overwatch, not half bad but the character design is pretty horrid, some are ambulant dei checkboxes...
Also i kinda hate GOTG so them trying to copy that doesn't play in their favour at all.

The beta should have a training room where to check the characters or at least like a bigger description with some gifs of the abilities, i had to basically learn the character in a real match.

Maybe there is some info in one of the options in the main menu, i have to look better.

Who are the healers in this game?

i heard the weekly story cutscenes are a new thing. but still, is not going to be enough.

better make money selling your game that hoping/manipulate gamers with aggressive MTX's.

I think this 40USD it's a healtier business model.

Story is a new thing( like the seasonal fornite clip?)One thing for sure cut scene with cringe writing and characters really won't be enough. I would see your point if those were not offensively bad.

Had a nice little match playing as It-Z where I specifically went after the tanks. I’m not going to claim I dominated every encounter, but using the teleport plus dodge move around those lumbering buffoons was so damned satisfying. A bit of a buff on that smg and she’d be perfect.

Or they have €20 skins, or time-gated content.

There is something to be said for €40 approach, just like Helldivers 2.

Skins I could care less about. Gameplay is what matters. I'm just pushing back on the idea that they "charge for everything" which can only be true if you play games for the cosmetics and not the gameplay. To me, that's weird.

I'm not sure how much Helldivers 2 really benefited from being $40. It made sense from Arrowhead and Sonys perspective but did it really improve the game from the players perspective? I'm skeptical.

Charge, melee, mid air shotgun kill. Star Child is fun.

I never said it was good. I saw the intro...and the way they wrote the Asian character IS one the biggest issue with that writing style:

"too cool to be here".

so, why anyone would play the game in the first place, if the characters themselves act like been there is not exciting?

I think the game is going to be okay-good (6-7/10). but as you say; no original enough to stand out.

Imagine playing chess on a board where all the pieces have a "too cool to be here" look on their face.

You would notice it once, and then completely forget about it once you're playing.

By the way, can cross play be turned off ? Or do you have to accept being obliterated by PC players?

The reason f2p games can keep going, is because people buy cosmetics and battlepasses with cosmetics.
Even Helldivers 2 does this to some extent.

It's fundamental to GaaS. Weird to see you act like that isn't the case, since you're Gaf's biggest GaaS advocate.

As for HD2, it did the same as Concord is doing, you buy it at a cheaper price and it offers free content alongside microtransactions to keep players engaged.
People were even fine to pay €40 for HD2, so it was a win-win-win for all parties involved.

If that chess game is somehow story based yes i think you would notice it.

So you don't have proof that Sony is paying people to like Concord. Got it.
It was pretty easy yesterday to see all the "sponsored" videos on Twitch and of course those getting paid are going to speak highly of it as they are getting paid and want to keep getting paid for future videos

Yesterday when the big streamers were doing their sponsored ads there were around 50k viewers and now that those big boys aren't playing it viewership was down to 5k viewers earlier today right behind Animal Shelter Simulator

Sony is paying me to like Stellar Blade and Concord despite my basic media literacy issues and gullibility towards political rhetoric.

Enjoyed an hour of it. Gunplay is good and overall presentation is nice. Wish they did a single player campaign. Would be something I jump into, but not go super deep, Im not much of a PVP player only fan

it depends on these story beats they have planned.

This issue here is if the gameplay is going to be strong enough to overcome the narrative.

The beta version of the game is also available on Steam, however, it is not as widely accessible as on PS5. If PC players are already causing issues, the situation may worsen in the future.

PC players aren't causing issue. People suck at the game and the easiest thing to do is to blame the evil PC cheaters.

There is a reason riot is making a separate version of Valorant. Console gamers wouldnt have a chance against pc players.

It's not a separate version. It's the same client with full cross-progression on PC and console. Did you even play the console beta?

First impression is it's Destiny meets Overwatch, but a worse version of both. Seeing as I stopped playing both of those as well, don't see myself playing more of this.
How is it anything like Destiny? First Descendant is like Destiny, this is a 100% Overwatch ripoff. Seems polished but pretty meh.

You misunderstand my point.

T0minator said that in F2P are bad because you get charged for "everything else". That's only true if you value cosmetics over gameplay. I can't fathom anyone outside an insane asylum actually believing that.

Example: Fortnite has probably released over 10,000 cosmetic items over the years. I have purchased roughly .01 percent of those cosmetics. I have never once felt that I haven't experienced the full Fortnite because I didn't buy a Banana skin. "Everything" is the gameplay itself, not the cosmetics.

I like the fact that other people buy digital nonsense to fund the further development of a game I enjoy. I could care less about $20 dollar skins like I could care less about a $1,000.00 Gucci purse. It's completely irrelevant to me, the player.

I question whether it's a win for players. I never used the heavy class in Helldivers 2. A lot of the stratagems I never used. Why is charging me full price for a lot of content better than F2P and allowing the player to only buy what appeals to them? In that $40 dollars comes a lot of junk.

Do you think Chess is story based? If someone tells you that you can watch a fictional Chess movie after every time you play chess, would that make chess story based to you?

The narrative is irrelevant. Multiplayer gamers don't care about cutscenes. The game will live or die based on its gameplay alone.

Can you play against m+kb players? No you cant and you shouldn't because they would demolish you. It should be input based crossplay.

When the story focus is probably the only reason this costs money upfront than yes it absolutely matters when thats not good.

is not irrelevant at all. especially when this game is pushing its narrative/story as a selling point.
"Story based"

Based.

Base.

Foundation.

Concord is not a story based game. It's a PvP based multiplayer shooter with a silly cutscene gimmick you don't even have to interact with.

What are we doing here?!

Is that why Helldivers 2 cost money up front? Because of its story?

In reality, Sony found that hype FOMO leads to impulse purchasing. They believe their GAAS titles can generate a small amount of hype FOMO so they charge $40 dollars.

Weird hoop jumping acting like these cutscenes have much impact on the longevity of a PvP game.

The "story" in this game is a selling point and the only difference to similar f2p games while helldivers 2 has not much similar games at all. Its somehow unique so people are rather giving money upfront to a game like helldivers.

I hope sony dont expect this to do as well as helldivers 2 tho.

Ah yeah, I get ya. Already thought it was weird for you to say what I thought you said.

I dunno, the same could be said for all games.
Why do I pay full price for any rpg, because Idgaf about all the sidequests?

I think it's about value proposition.

€40 vs f2p like Overwatch makes Concord seem not worth it.

But €40 vs €50 for Hellblade 2 makes it look like a better deal.
