it will be 90s for sure, but I expect a lot of reviewers will struggle with the systems. There hasn't really been a diceroll dnd game in the mainstream like this since before the average reviewer was born

bumping a classic and imagining wordswap to BG3 because my life is about to get CONSUMED

I've only played a few hours but it was enough to show me what it's about and sell me on it. I never liked the Original Sin games and thought this would be Original Sin 3 with the Baldurs Gate name slapped on it. That's NOT the case. They might use the same engine and have similar graphics but they are two totally different games.

Even though I didn't like them the OS games were well reviewed and liked by many. I think BG3 is so far above them so I'd be very surprised if BG3 got any less than 94 MC.

As much as I love Zelda, I think BG3 is going to be the better game. I'd guess it's going to get 97-98.

99 - get to plow a bear and get to see the salt on REEE
What the fuck are they upset about now? :messenger_weary:

High 80s. The first Act will be polished and people will say it the GOAT, but the reactivity and tightness will wane a bit by endgame, with some characters not seeing as much attention, some systems not being as fleshed out as originally suspected, basically minor issues that has no real impact on the game. The real killer will be bugs, battles getting LONG as they grow more complex which make them tedious, and people disliking randomness in major plot related events, or emotionally significant moments. All this is my prediction.

never played one of these. i hate any strategy or turn based combat. is there action combat only options in this game?

nvm. did some quick research this combat looks horrendous. have fun if you enjoy that sort of thing of course
It's fairly quick paced for turn based, but yeah if you only play purely flashy action games like FF16 this won't be for you.

I like how it feels like you are actually playing a D&D game. It is actually a pretty good learning tool.
Better than Bioware's freeze time method.

Question, do I need to have played 1 or 2 to be able to get into this game? Or is it welcoming to new comers?

Hopefully 95+ and hopefully it’ll sell 10+ millions and be in the GOTY talks.

I don’t want to ever again have a discussion why a turn based RPG would not work or sell anymore, the FF16 talks were incredibly depressing.
My feelings too. I'm really tired of the "its outdated" or "Turn Based can only ever be niche" takes.

There are plenty of examples showing thats not the case, but this game selling pancakes would definitely put such notions to rest once and for all.

Yeah, and it’s not optional, it’s how it’s built, and it’s not some indie game on Switch, it’s very much AAA game for the top end systems.

And it’s literally a console exclusive on PS5 this year, and it’s releasing on PS5 same day as Starfield, meaning there will likely be some extra hype and focus among the core PS fans, and the turn based versus realtime combat talk will not get poluted by platform warring.

It’s an important title for many reasons.

DOS2 landed on 93 on OC.....this feels much more ambitious, grand, together, bombastic and tbh awe inspiring...

But we live in a different more jaded and neggy age.

So I'm going with 92 as an eventual OC rating, with a heap of 100s, lots of mid 90s heaping huge praise and a group of outliers hating on the Bear incident, something will ire woke types with the sexiness of it all and land it a couple of 50/100s and it'll settle on 92 or even 90 if I'm being uber realistic.

90-92 in this environment, is like a 94-96 in 2015 IMO lol.

95+

this has has everything a true rpg should have , i dont agree with stuff like bear sex scene but putting that aside the game has

- great storytelling
- real choice and consequence
- deep rpg mechanics/costumization
- great voice acting
- a complex story with multiple antagonists , each with personal motives , they are not just evil for the sake of it
- the world reacts to the type of character ur making and what decisions you make
- soundtrack is amazing
what more could you want from an rpg , i would have loved if it had a more darker color pallet but its fine

We ain't outta here in ten minutes, we won't need no rocket to fly through space
90+ without breaking a sweat. This thing has too much love, care and attention put into a game of unprecedented scope to go any lower.

Think we'll see them trickle in slowly though considering how massive it is.

He'll do a first impressions video, most likely.
Unsure if sacastic or not, so just a reminder he uses steam hacking tools to get his trophies.

He's got a few "require full playthrough" type trophies with exact same time stamps, and some that were impossible due to bugs.

the issue is Act 1 takes 20+ hours to finish, which means reviewers wont even get to the new content in time for release.

It's pretty pointless to consider reading the early reviews on a game of this size. We don't get them nearly often enough, and even if the game doesn't get a 95+ supporting a studio like Larian to keep making good shit is well worth it.
