Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition – Coming March 20th, 2025 (Nintendo Switch)

Wait they took out the boob slider in a wiiu early 2010s game? When did this come out, during mee too period? As I can't see it happening. Every older rpg with a character creator had chest size. Only in recent times with dragon age woke guard do you see that removed (or only two sizes flat and man boob).
Yup, 2015 and boob slider was removed. You can thank the localization team for that. That was a really weird period for Nintendo as they were censoring more than Sony now is, lol.

Other notable example from that period is Project Zero/Fatal Frame with it's removed costumes and interactive cutscene which was deemed "too uncomfortable".

I don’t know if even under the loosest definition, if this could be considered turn-based.
Hybrid system with a bunch of systems that require you to be proactive with managing position, auto attacks, cooldowns, secondary cooldowns, Soul Voice prompts, abilities proccing off of conditions, attacking different body parts of both Elites, Tyrants and other Skells. It is not a Turn based game at all.

Delighted to see this, it's been rumoured for so long and it's finally coming! The only game that made me buy a Wii U.

While the game was built around the use of a second screen, I started another playthrough via Cemu on the Steam Deck a while back and having the 2nd screen as a toggle worked fine. Not ideal ofc, but it was grand.

Be interested to see what route they take with it in this definitive edition. Also, hoping for some additional content to get stuck into to.

I can't wait to get into another Xenoblade game. I never got the chance to play this one; I almost bought a WiiU just to play it a couple of years ago. The unfortunate lack of a collector's edition makes me think the publishing department at Nintendo is all hands on deck preparing for Switch 2.

One thing I would like is to rebalance the Skells.

IIRC there was really no reason to use anything but the biggest + most expensive skell model for everyone as long as you could afford it. There were some really cool skell designs like that bunny looking one on the front cover ^ but there wasn’t much reason to use it. Would’ve been cool if they all had interesting strengths/weaknesses/affinity for certain pilots or whatever.

(Note to newcomers: this DOESNT mean there was no build variety as you still had a shitload of different weapons to load it out with)

I just realized that this game's release date all but (unofficially) confirms Switch 2 will be backwards compatible (Assuming Switch 2 launches by next Spring)

Think about it, why would Nintendo release a Switch 1 game, with the intent of releasing a Brand new Console a mere 2-3 months later, if said Brand new Console couldn't also play that fancy new Xenoblade game you just bought mere months ago? That would be an absolute slap in the face to every single customer that bought (or would buy) your game.

So yeah long way of saying XCX DE almost  has to be BC with Switch 2 if it's launching so close to Switch 2.

Man, this pic makes me really wish Nintendo would do a physical re-release of XC3 (let's call it the definitive edition :messenger_grinning_sweat: ) with the DLC included on the cart. Maybe they'll do that for the Switch 2.

Or do a Xenoblade Complete Collection Boxset with all four games with all DLC on one cart. Release it for Switch 2

You're not interested in the continued story? What if this game gets a Switch 2 patch?
Story is completely dumb in this game. It's so bad that it is, in a way, hilarious and entertaining. But that's just my opinion.

Exploration was excellent in X and I enjoyed this mainly, along with the universe and its many systems. How the gamepad is going to be implemented remains to be seen, but as with every Wii U to Switch port, it will most probably be a step back.

If the game gets a 60fps, then I can buy it at this moment, certainly not before. There is no rush.

They did rerelease XC3. Amazon has stock!
This is US Amazon, the US version is $53.00 but my link is UK version which was cheaper $48.79
That's the standard physical release which I already have. I know I'm kinda repeating myself here, but what I’d really love is an XC3 physical version that includes all the DLC they've released for the game (including Future Redeemed), all on the same cart as the base game.

Also, since you have a BOTW pfp, they did have a physical re-release for this game specifically in Japan in 2021, where they put the base game with the expansion pass on the same cart. I'm still hoping they'll do something similar for XC3.

Looks like you've read my mind lol. I'd be day 1 on that.

If it really runs at 1080p that would be great.
The IQ has not been the strong suit of this series on Switch... XB1DE/XB2 are quite blurry at times, and XB3 gets blurry as soon as you move due to their TAA solution (it's better than 1 and 2 though).

Monolith Soft had wrong priorities when they were developing Xenoblade games on Switch, the increase level of details on geometries, vegetations, structures, and character models were pointless if the image quality was to low because you couldn't see shit lol.

They should've sticked with WiiU level of details for clean image quality.

Lucky, Xenoblade X definitive edition is going to showcase a spectacular graphical output.

Woof. I've been holding off on XC3 in hopes that the Switch 2 will be able to run Switch games with better image quality and frame rates, and I'll do the same with X. It's Nintendo, so you can rarely expect them to do the right thing hardware-wise... but being able to play through the Xenoblade series and have it look as good as it should would be life-changing stuff.

And XCX is coming out close enough to the Switch 2's supposed launch that I can't imagine there just being no enhancement for players on the new hardware.

Day one purchase.
I freaking love this game.

To all new players, getting a mech will take a long time. Like, an insane amount of time.

Im curious though. Which version? The censored version or the uncensored version?

I have long stated XBC:X is the pinnacle of environment design in the series.

This level of quality and complexity was reached on Wii U because they made the choice to NOT have collision detection, with the exception of the characters against the scenery. You go through everything in this game, and attacks are all target based. You cannot slash and hit whatever crosses the slash.

This was the right call though, and the games that followed look like poop.

Totally agree that XCX on the WiiU is a much better looking game than XCDE on the switch because dynamic resolution makes things so blurry.

But what reason do we have to believe that the switch version of this massive, magical world won't drop to 720p and below when things get intense?

Fyi I would much prefer bad draw distance and no collision detection to dynamic resolution but I don't think that just because that's how the WiiU version was that the switch version will do the same thing, aren't they more likely to follow the direction they've been going with other switch xenoblade games?

Idk, the lack of collision detection was pretty immersion breaking, esp in NLA. I doubt it but hopefully they can fix this for the definitive edition now that they have more CPU power to work with.

yeah that is a bit of a shame. I really like Xenoblade Chronicles DE on Switch. 2 doesn't have the same feel or look.

I am calling out anyone who pushed the lie that the New LA theme is garbage. "Uhhhh, yeaaaa, uhhhhh yeaaaa"

You filthy casuals should be ashamed of yourselves for pushing such nonsense. Besides, the intial uhh's and yeaa's are building up to something much greater than itself, but selectively edited YT videos want you to think otherwise. I have it cued up below, spend two minutes to see how the layers of melody come together.

"OOOOOOOOoooooooooooo" :messenger_sunglasses:

XBX is a freaking dime, everything about it, and any self respecting JRPG/Phantasy Star Online fan needs to get the game Day 1 and then before playing it, stand in front of a mirror and slap yourself for not already owning it on the God-Tier console WiiU.
----
For the beginners out there. XBX is effing massive. Take your time and do the side missions and bond missions. I cannot stress it enough, do not rush through the game, it will take you over 60 hours to get anywhere and even then you'll have like 85% of the map left to explore. Just enjoy the ride. The side missions and bond missions give you the story you want and the world map is freaking huge. It's easily the best Xenoblade Chronicles title.

TL;DR - XBX is a turbo-Japan Tenchi Muyo-type sitcom with an amazing world, OST, and gameplay. Everyone should play this game.

The game is so damn good. I didn't play it until a few years after the fact. I had traded in my WiiU years prior but bought another during Covid. While waiting for the WiiU to arrive from eBay, each day I watched a promo video for the launch of XBX in North America. It was so awesome, Winter time, Christmas decorations everywhere, grown ass man riding his own personal hype train waiting for a used WiiU to arrive so he can play XBX, lol. It was amazing.

People excited for the game on Switch should watch these videos as the release day draws closer. It'd be cool if Nintendo did something similar for the Switch version. The entire playlist of Survival Guide videos is linked in the video.

Nintendo World Report did a comparison and said it looks like it's 1080p with an anti-aliasing pass. Additionally, they said no dynamic resolution scaling was found in the footage or high resolution screenshots sent over by Nintendo. They also noted that LOD and draw distance was improved.

Yeah but they're comparing a trailer, not gameplay footage
