tbh, if talking about villain, i think people kind off underestimate vayne of FF12, he didn't has grand power like other FF villain but dude is cunning AF, and especially doesn't batshit crazy like any other FF villain, he actually archived whatever he want to do only stop at last minutes by some anime plot armor party

Fun thread.

Cast - FFIV. IV was the first FF I really played the shit out of. 10 year old me loved the large party, betrayals, and people coming and going. FFX is a close second

Villains - gotta go with FFVII. So many debates back in the day about who the real villain was. Sephiroth? Jenova? Hojo? Fun times. Kefka is a close second.

Story - FFX for me. The whole journey Yuna was on and the development of her relationship with Tidus. Amazing.

Music - probably 7 or 9 for me. Some real bangers there.

Setting/World - tough one. VI, VII, IX, and X all stand out. I'd say if I had to pick one I'd go with IX.

It's really amazing how epic this series was from like 1991 to 2001.

Sakaguchi is the all time GOAT game dev.

He has insane pedigree and was one of the leading pioneers that made gaming a serious art form. Over 30 years later and many people around the world still talk about and replay his games.

Uematsu of course is legendary and a genius considering he's a self taught musician with no formal music education and training...

Villains - A lot of iconic villains in the series, but my choice goes to Vayne Solidor. Also the Judge Magisters although sadly they were undercooked.

Main Party Cast - It's hard to make a choice, so many good picks. I want to say VII was the most varied and fleshed out, especially with the current Remake trilogy in mind. VI IX and X were top tier too. XII was undercooked like the villains. I have a soft spot for XIII and XV too.

Music - Good lord, you can picky any ost at random and it'd be a solid choice. I'm gonna go with VI because it was so ahead of its time and profoundly moving.

Setting/world - tough choice. From VII to VIII, IX, and X are all top tier. XII, XIII and XV deserve more love too imo. I'll go with VIII cause it was the most inventive, original and ambitious despite not having reached the full potential I think was possible -- it deserved more cities and more lore.

Story - Would have chosen XII had it reached its full potential. I'll pick VII since it delivers on everything its sets out to build up and then some. Plenty of focus on party members and a lot of set pieces and memorable plot points. VII (the original) feels like the most complete FF to me next to VI and X. XV had the potential to be the best if it was finished as envisioned initially.

well...

FFVI has a cool villain, great music and twist

FFVII setting ,art and cast are awesome

FFIX is pretty good as well, like a mix of modern and old school Final Fantasy

im fond of FFXII combat and setting

FFXIII and FFXV had potential but they didn't reached it imo

And FF Crystal Chronicles series music is 👌

Plot: IV - Something about it just feels classic to me.

Cast: IX - I cared so much about everyone, and related to the overarching loneliness.

Villains: VI - Kefka

Setting: X - I wanted to live there.. Sans the random Sin attacks

Music: IX - First soundtrack I ever went out of my way to buy.

Which Final Fantasy game has your favorite villains, main party cast, music, setting/world, and story?

Mostly going to pick between 6, 7, and Tactics... those are I think the best FF games. By far, honestly.

Villain/s: Easy, FF7. Sephiroth, Hojo, the Turks, the Weapons. Excellent. FF6 is not in the running because Kefka I find ridiculous. Honorable mention probably 9, for me.

Main Cast: Easily 6. Huge bunch of "protagonists" who all compliment each other very well. Honorable mention to 12, a more subtle group with a bunch of well-defined but not at all cartoony characters.

Music: Very tough between 6 & 7... both are excellent. I gotta go 7.

Setting/World: 6 & 7 are both great here... 6 especially with the 2 worlds after the island... but my vote might go to Tactics. I love the highly political/class-based intrigue seen through a sort of medieval military angle... but also with elements of their faith systems, and their version of occult lore/legends. It's a particularly potent mix.

Story: 7 is my number 1; Tactics is juuuust behind it. 6 and 9 are also high up there.

90s were killer for Final Fantasy... it hasn't even been close since those days. Just a shell of its former self. Final Fantasy games (maybe just traditional JRPGs in general) have not adapted well post PS2 IMO... making them all some kind of 3D action game has hurt them immensely, for me.
