Which FROMSOFT boss would have made you lower the in-game difficulty, if their games had adjustable in-game difficulty options?

I went through elden ring without using spirit ashes or summons but used an ash for Melania, I didn't want to spend the time needed to figure out how to roll through waterfowl.

I guess you could say I did

Malenia

That fight was brutal. And by that I mean the first phase alone. Took me on average 10 tries to even get to phase 2 and then I would get my ass kicked almost instantly. Found it super frustrating. Would have prolly never made the fight without the mimic ashes on phase 2.

None really, but Nameless King and Promised Consort Radahn were a bit more of a pain in the ass than needed IMO.

Edit: Oh yeah Elden Beast was also a pain in the ass, haven't tried him since they patched in Torrent but I imagine it being a lot less shitty now.

Malenia did and I regret. I'm not playing a 50+ hours game again just to fight her because I accidentally killed her with the mimic in a test fight, it talks a lot about game balance being all over the place in that game, it was a breeze with it to the point I obliterated her like if I was just stepping on ants, but was borderline impossible without it, which I would have overcame anyway with more intents.

I love all their base games and put hundreds of hours into each but I don't find most of their DLC fun or replayable. I finished them all (and in their initial unbalanced versions) but I probably would've dropped the difficulty starting with DS2 DLC just to get it over with.

Artorias of the Abyss and The Old Hunters are great and the only DLC I'll play through anymore. Everything else I find obnoxious.

I would say I’d do bitch made mode for sekiro final boss.

It’s the only reason I refuse to ever replay it.

Honestly, I believe Souls games do have difficulty adjustments, just not in the traditional way. You can go it alone or phone a friend or summon if you’re having a tough time or grind for higher level & weapon upgrades, etc. Personally, I wouldn’t have beaten any of these games without some assistance here.

None, git gud. I will say Sword Saint Isshin was the most grueling, rage-inducing battle I've ever experienced in a game but once I finally got him the feeling of elation was unlike anything I've ever experienced before and *that's* what it's all about 👌

Rot/putrid ulcerated tree spirits in Elden Ring, both of them. Not only was the fight bullshit, it's also an aggressively unfun boss that the target lock is a hindrance for, and encourages cheesing.

Lowering the difficulty in a From game would be like having all the answers on a crossword puzzle highlighted. Getting good is just one solution of many in From Software games. Except for Sekiro, you just gotta git gud there.

Was thinking about buying Sekiro while it’s 50% off but some posts here have me scared.

I’m an average player but have beaten Demons, Dark 1 + 3, Bloodborne and Elden Ring. Not all boses in each but without summoning help on the ones I did beat in order to beat the game. ER I used most of the help they offered.

Would I be able to beat Sekiro?
Most souls vets probably thought Sekiro was really hard because they played it like a souls game and you can't.

It is hard the first time, don't get me wrong. But not having stamina and being able to parry virtually every move changes your encounters. You need to be very aggressive when fighting enemies compared to souls where you can chip away at enemies.

Sekiro is a sublime game that you shouldn't miss out on.

I actually have a way harder time with the Nioh and other Team Ninja games. From stuff is pretty easy because I can just grind to OP status. Sekiro took me 3 solid attempts of starting the game and giving up at the same place over the course of a year. It finally clicked, (an a-ha moment, not a slow progression) and I just cruised through the game after that. Sword Saint Isshin withstanding.

A rando dog boss in the chalice dungeons right before Queen Yharnam in BB.

The fucker, even being overlevelled could still 2 hit kill me. Took me over 40 tries. The arena, the move set, the damage output. I won by pure luck.

I am pretty good at learning the bosses. But that fucker...

Elden Beast wasn't too hard. That bastard just kept running away from me. My melee-focused build could never get in range to hit him. I don't think a difficulty slider would have helped.
Fortunately, they've since changed that scenario. Although I doubt I'll ever play it again.
You should try it again. Adding speed to your character changes the fight. It’s kinda nuts.

I actually think I may have played Sekiro on Easy the first time around just to get the parry system down if it would've been available. I think it's a phenomenal game overall but I'm not a fighting game nor parry style player, just not uaed to it nor good at it, so Sekiro was the only one so far that I straight up considered dropping for a while.

I had a REALLY hard time learning the combat somehow and didn't really appreciate the game until my second playthrough because I spent most of it frustrated as hell.

Emphasis on if it were available though. I wouldn't start demanding an easier mode just because I got my ass kicked.

Consort Radahn had me tilted. I tried multiple build reworks, but ultimately just put the time in and memorized the attack patterns.

Everyone wishing for a Difficulty option, I say be careful what you wish for.

FromSoft are well designed games that most people will make the case that, just like GTA doesn’t need a Easy or Hard mode, Souls game don’t either.

That said, if difficulty was ever an option, I’d be wary of how they implement it: beat the game in Normal to Unlock Hard, beat on Hard to see the real ending and Unlock Ultimate difficulty, beat Ultimate to Unlock the True Ending and unlock Dark difficulty. Beat on Dark to unlock Dark Anor Londo at the end after killing True Dark King Gwynallant and see an Easter egg on NG++

Luckily for us, Miyazaki is a chad and doesn’t take suggestions from nerd forums.

I'm curious if soulsborne fans would accept/reject the integration of a PAUSE button. Not for making it easier or exploiting mechanics etc...but for the simple fact that LIFE HAPPENS and damnit sometimes you gotta pause the shit and continue later.

Call me crazy but I wouldn't mind special rewards at the end of the game like "Infinite ammo/items" ring or something. Like Resident Evil. Special rings/items that give you unlimited item use, auto-heal, unlimited stamina etc.

I struggled with Malenia for a long time. Honestly, I’m not sure if I could beat her again—especially since, the last time I managed to defeat her, she killed me too. Thankfully, her death still counted!

And this was after From had nerfed my build and patched all the little exploits and ganks, so I had to really on pure luck and skill and rage.

I knew about the demon business but never dared to ring that shit in my three playthroughs.

Demon ring bell is not that bad, you get better loot drops, the real challenge is when you give back Kuro’s charm at beginning of the game….normally when you unsuccessfully parry you just get posture damage but without Kuro’s charm you also get chip damage to your health bar.

It's just...so...freaking...haaard...

I think I have started Sekiro over three or four times, now. I love everything about the game. If it was a straight up action game with no parry and posture mechanic, it would probably be my favorite action game of all time.

As it stands, my scrub ass cannot git gud at Sekiro. Perhaps one day I will figure out the blockage in my brain that prevents me from understanding Sekiro.

I don't play Souls games much but definitely Radahn in Elden Ring, pre-patch. That dude gave me fits. I pretty much coasted through most of the rest of the game thanks to being over leveled and having my trusty Mimic Tear, but that fight was hours of aggregation. I definitely would have used turned things down a notch or three, given the option.

The snowy bit in the Dark Souls 2 dlc - simply impossible.

Also perhaps Orphan of Kos in Bloodborne - could not manage it without co-op.

I'm actually playing dark souls blind right now.

Bell gargoyle was... an exercise in integrity. I gave in and summoned Sun Bro. I died anyway and with no humanity, I had to do it the hard way. Believe me I was unwilling.

This happened multiple times. I gave in and summoned npcs but died anyway so I had to do it the hard way.

I believe it isn't this way in Elden Ring. There was no humanity mechanic and you can summon any time.

I think if there was an option to lower the difficulty you would you use more often than you think. If there is no option to do that you know you need to get good, learn from mistakes and beat the boss to proceed.

In Elden Ring, maybe Malenia. Every time I did a new run I was having fun up until her. I never managed to pull off the "run around her and dodge last moment" when she does the waterfowl dance. Completely bullshit move. None of the DLC bosses made me hate the game like Malenia did.

In Sekiro, the Headless minibosses. Especially the one in the foggy forest area. I'm pretty sure I died to it more than any other boss.
