What cover songs do you feel are better than the original?

this is a weird one.
Post Malone had Ozzy in one of his songs called "Take What You Want". but he only sang a few parts in the song.
so 2 youtubers collabed to turn the entire song into an Ozzy style song. including imitating his voice. and it turned out pretty good.

Chimaira's take on Fascination Street is much improved for my personal preferences. The incredible bass line, which is the heart of the song, is maintained perfectly while the rest of the instruments are given much more structure and texture, (I mean it's a metal cover so that makes sense), and the vocals are preferable to me over the original, but then it's important for me to note that I don't like Smith's vocals much and never have despite liking quite a bit of The Cure, but I like The Cure in spite of Robert Smith lol. I just don't like whiny shit at all, so the Chimaira version is just completely superior for my purposes.

I think the one strung plank might be considered a baritone Diddly Bow - but I'm not sure you couldn't just say low tuned, one string lap steel. It's one of the early blues instruments.

That one is a bit of a stretch; I don't think the original version was anything more than a demo, never commercially released; so the "cover" was the first truly released version, purchased from the songwriter in a very typical practice.
The following are on my wrong list:
^ Nah, this is neat for introducing the young MTV idiots in the audience to some great music, but Bowie's version is superior -- particularly the closing vocals/harmonies.
^ nah I'll take the weird vocals of the Boomtown Rats aka. Pink from The Wall, over this recording
disagree -- Buckley's version is a beautiful thing all its own, wonderful, but it doesn't surpass Cohen. The key problem for me is that it lacks the bite and sarcasm that was often dripping from the original verses.
in this version for example:
He tended to sing it with very different verses by the way; the Buckley one combines lyrics from Cohen's first recorded version with the ones from the live rendition above, which had very different verses.

That live version cover's tempo made me feel out of breath about a minute into the song. Edwin Starr's studio version is what most people are familiar with (for good reason) even if I really like the original by the Temptations.

Bloodywood's cover of Post Malone's Rockstar is pretty great.
it's not just a straight cover, they changed most of the lyrics to reflect the struggles they had as a small metal band. getting scammed by venues etc. (mixed with a bit of humor)

I just remembered an old album I bought many a moon ago - Alvin Lives (in Leeds), which was an anti poll-tax album comprising a number of covers by indie bands. A mixed bag, but it did give us a version of Chirpy Chirpy Cheep Cheep by Lush at least (which I would say fairs better than the original for sure...)

Whatever version you prefer can sometimes just be a matter of which one you heard first, but I just listened to Icehouse & Simple Minds recent cover of T.Rex old tune 'Get It On' and while they don't really do anything groundbreaking or genre transcending they give the song a little more speed and "oomph".

Forgot all about this song, heard it on radio the other day.
I've always known it was a cover, but never heard the original. For the services of this thread I went and listened after looking up who sang the original. The cover is definitely the better version.
Oh and if anyone feels like pointing out that George's song is technically a cover of JLH's song. Here's that version, which is a cover of the Amos song.

Ok another edit, after reading the wiki for the song it's a medley of two JLH songs, I didn't know that. So here's the beginning bit of George's song, another JLH cover.

While not technically a cover since it is performed by the same band...the version Take On Me from the MTV unplugged gig a-ha did a few years back is def. a banger for me, and feels like a completely different song.
