Halfway through the Gaunt's Ghosts Omnibus and it's good stuff. Im enjoying the grittiness and plight that these soldiers undertake, underscored by the fact that they are the last people of a destroyed planet, making every death a near tragedy.

That being said, is there more of this kind of stuff to be found in Warhammer lore? I'm open to reading about the space Marines and other perspectives from the much more powerful aspects of this universe, but there is just something to being immersed in the stories of these fragile beings caught up in this nightmare. Hell, even civilian stories would probably be fascinating.

Definitely Caiphas Cain. I actually prefer them to the Gaunt books.

Obviously the Eisenhorn/Ravenor novels as well. They're Inquisition books, but everybody is human (more or less) with accompanying frailties and weaknesses.

The Shira Calpurnia books aren't bad either, if you want a bit of detective action.

Bloodlines by Chris Wraight is absolutely excellent if you want a book about being human in a hive city.

To be honest, anything in the Warhammer Crime or Horror series might suit you.

Decent game so far but man, I hate the voice acting and that's not a complaint I make often. The voice for the Archmagos is as annoying as sandpaper rubbing together.

Anyone seen how much the battle forces are going to be? My understanding is that they were going to post the prices before the end of the month. That knight and dark angels boxes are crazy tempting.

Went into my local store and they said mid November is the norm for pricing on them. They said to expect 260-280 though. Pretty awesome deals.

Got about 90% done my Sororitas Rhino. Need to do touch ups, some layering, and a few details but it’s coming along pretty good I think. Sororitas is on the edge of my skill level so this has been really fun.

Normally the battleforces are around 220/230$ cad here with a 15% discount at a flgs. Not interested in any AoS or 40k one this year though

Does anyone else find the guy who presents the "This week in Warhammer" videos on YouTube to be really annoying (Alex)? It's not so much his voice, rather how he speaks and presents the info. It's like some sort of over the top cheesy voice, like presenting an 80s gameshow. Carol Steele, come on downnnn.

I know there's kids who play the game and watch the videos but surely there's a better way to do it.

He's got that insufferable, smug, middle-class voice that so many British presenters are cursed with.

This. Its an overexcited smugness with the constant changes of high & low pitch to his voice, which I assume is to make whatever he's detailing sound better or more interesting, when really he's just annoying the hell out of me/others. Bring back Sugs!

Sugs was probably far too Scottish and working class for them.

Sigh.

This is not a problem confined to Games Workshop, let me assure you. I've worked with a lot of companies on their PR, and time and time again they hire the same middle class smug gits, just because they're terrified of using regional accents or anyone that doesn't sound 100% polished and professional. The problem is, all the voice over artists and presenters learn the same shit from the same people, so it all becomes this weird, homogenised mass of the same accents, intonations and presenting style.

Just a quick reminder that the battle force stuff goes up for preorder tomorrow. If you want the dark angels set I bet you will need to preorder it. I’m nudging the wife on that and the knight box.

Pre-order with flgs already done Tuesday. I'd recommend finding a flgs for pre-orders, easier and you'll get a better pricing (here it's 15% off)

My local place does them on the same day but gives 20% off. It’s awesome but can miss out and they don’t have many paint options.

That's a bummer! As far as paint options I'm really happy with my store, they have pretty much all brands of paints. I've slowly moved away from citadel

I’m not good enough to move away from their colours yet. Maybe after a few more boxes. The bigger paint pots are attractive to me.

I finished “the great work” about belisarious and was pretty disappointed.

I really didn’t like how handled the tyranids compared to the space marines. It really just watered the marines down too much. Made them seem way closer to baseline humans.

The ctan shard part seemed kind of forced too.

Expensive for what it is, but it's also unique so ... I'll let you decide.
