Yeah i learned my lesson. Still new to the hobby. Thanks for the tips, i might try to do a tad darker shade on the hair and then dry brush some white strands.

Nevertheless i love painting and how comforting it is to my mind. I regret i didn't start earlier.

You just painting for fun, or building an army for gaming?

Yeah i'm lucky my wife doesn't mind the cost but when my bro in law asked how much a single canoness costs he just looked at me like i need an interventiom regarding my spending habbits

Even a 500 point army is becoming ridiculously expensive these days. That's why the sprue market on ebay is so huge, and why 3d printing gets more and more popular.

Yeah no shit. I was thinking about going the printer way but i thought that some form of supporting the hobby is needed.

That and bootleg Sororitas stl files are kinda meh. I like their official look, the armor and decals. The freeware stuff is good quality, but not flashy enough for me. And i won't talk about pirating and printing official mini's. Still feels kinda wrong.

The only thing GW should do (besides crying about printing and upping the prices) is change the sculptors to someone who has seen and touched a woman in their life, cause all the nuns look like Terry wearing a wig. Talk about false advertising with their art and figures.

You can find replacement heads on Etsy that look a lot better.

I love how adding one or two colors (per session) reallt changes the mini's.

I'll stop spamming the thread with my updates cause i see i'm the only one doing that. My excitement just gets the better of me 😅

Well hope you'll find the time eventually. I have two small kids so i get 2 paint session per week. Really difficult to manage some time but i would go crazy if i didn't get my personal down time.

Added a few drops of copper to my orange mix and gave the armor it's final shine.
Now a nuln wash and then finish the robes.

Makariel that is some serious painting skills! Nice ones
And on thst note:

Someone is having a bad day.
What game is this from?

On my front i had just the time to wash the armor with nuln oil (my first time using a wash) and while it made the copper shine a bit darker the amount of details that popped out on the chest armor is amazing. Note to myself, paint a bit brighter if you wanna shade it with nuln.

Thank you!

And the Hatchetman (that's it's actual name) is from Battletech which is about to celebrate it's 40th anniversary next year 🎉

Tried to recreate the cover of this old scenario pack:

Can't get more 80ies early 90ies vibes than that really 😁

Yeah that cover looks like a pulp sci-fi book from that era or an Amiga game cover!

Wife got me the big starter pack, the paint set, and the primer and tools for Christmas… the starter set doesn’t show for 3 more days… so excited!
Nice! I hope you enjoy painting.

They just announced the Tomb Kings box set and I can't wait. Between that and the Dark Angels box, I am set for a good while again :D

I've never played a single Warhammer game but I've always wanted to. What's a good starting point? Any particular game I should try to get a feel for it?

Probably start with Kill Team, I'd say. The rules are easy to get into with the right group (and around where I live, stores may do some "beginner's league" from time to time), and you can build your team with only a couple of boxes (depending on the faction) making it pretty cheap.

I don't know what's the equivalent exactly for Age of Sigmar though, if you're more into Fantasy; Warcry or Underworlds?

Thank you. There's a Games Workshop fifteen minutes from where I work so I'll be paying that a visit in the next few days. Apparently, they have lots of Warhammer stuff (y)

As Darth said, Kill Team is the best way to dip your toes into Warhammer (Specifically the 40K universe). Smaller teams that require only 6-10 miniatures and focuses on characters rather than armies and groups like larger base game. Plus many of the Kill Team models can be moved over into a full army.

I’m really looking forward to it. I build a desk in the basement for it.

Looking at my paints though, my wraith bone seems to be almost lumpy. I’m assuming that’s not normal? It looks separated.

Shake them very well for 2-3 minutes. If you have any, put agitators inside. Small stainless steel balls for example.

Any recommendations on primer to get for a noob? There is the white wraith bone or the black. I’m assuming the black is more forgiving but makes it harder to hit detail?

Black Primer is usually the best as it requires less paint over all for the painter. If you can't quite hit the deepest recesses or under areas, it would look more like shadow than a white would. White would show all the areas you didn't hit and make the overall mini look worse.

You can easily hit the same detail with any primer. White just is less forgiving.

Usually I use whtie for any character that is primarily white (my space wolves or votann for example) and black for anyone who is primarily darker colors (Nids, Seraphon, etc).

Any tips on organizing your stuff as you build? Probably seems silly but I’d hate to lose smalls bits (we have cats and dogs). Does anyone use a tackle box? This is my current thought but I’d love other ideas.

Chinese restaurant take-away boxes lol
But for real, I use those a lot, be it for minis or Lego or whatever.

Got some more minis started tonight.
Excited to do my tyranids and get painting

I was going to post some more photos but they keep failing to upload, I assume due to size. How do I resize them on iPhone?

I have a bunch of `Craft Organizer` boxes (here's a link to the sort of thing, there are billions of variations, the ones I use are actually a lot smaller and cheaper since I got them at a dollar store).

Some have resizable partitions though honestly I prefer the ones without (being made of pure chinesium the fitment isn't great and it's irritating if parts scoot under the dividers).

The benefit of these is that they're flat, transparent, cheap, and small enough that it makes sense to devote one to a given "project", like a set of troops or w/e.

Why are they rebooting warhammer fantasy with fucking Brittonia and Tomb Kings of all Factions...

Well… money. That’s always the reason for these things. Not sure it’s going to do all that well, because it’s too close to Sigmar, but it’ll have its fans, as all TT games do.

Daughter and I finished building our starter box and ready to paint.

We got some citadel primer but as this is our first time painting/priming, can anyone provide us with some tips on ways to do it? I don’t want to lose detail so any tips would be great. Also, I assume you prime buildings and minis the same but I’m not sure.

I was building my barricades last night and on each corner of the sprew there are these 4 unused parts.

It’s this set here.

https://www.warhammer.com/en-CA/shop/battlezone-fronteris-stc-hab-bunker-and-stockades-2022

What are those for? It doesn’t say in the handbook.

Those same sprues were shipped in other kits in the past, with other sprues and they were used in that set (to provide broken roof sections on top of ruined sets of walls). In this kit they do nothing.

A lot of the terrain kits work that way - it's all so modular GW mixes and matches different combinations of sprues and sells them as different kits. The extra pieces are just unused or can be used with other spares you might have from other kits.

It costs them nothing to cast a sprue compared to what it cost to mill the molds in the first place.

Ahh I see, the roof parts I figured out easy. These other ones confused me. I appreciate it.

Taking my daughter down to games work shop tonight to grab some stuff for her

Any comments on priming in the cold? It’s about -15 celsius here and I was going to prime in my garage except it’s not heated. It’s warmer than outside but not by a huge amount. It would only be for the painting time

During my hiatus from the site, last year I decided it was time to finally paint my 3rd edition space marines that have lived in the box in a loft for 25yrs. (Occasionally moving house and living on another loft). I then went & bought Leviathan, safe to say the game has changed a lot since the late 90's. I'll probably never play it but it's relaxing to paint during rainy nights. Might put some photos up at some point and you can all complain at my choice of chapter! :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Did my first all glue model today. It’s the monthly freebie so I was happy to give it a shot. No instructions so it was even more fun. The parts slipped out of my hands a fair bit, any tips on how to keep them from not?

Thanks :)

Each picture was pretty much a weekend project (in the last I just painted the Dreadnaught as I already did Ragnar last year), the Tyranid took a bit longer as I was trying to figure out what I should do with him as I went along and I needed to get e.g. some Uhu glue for the blood splatter

Sounds good. I’m trying to figure out how much time to expect for my painting as a newb.
