I’m struggling to remember the cross-gen PS3/PS4 FP games apart from LittleBigPlanet 3 (Sumo)
They didn't exist, every big project was on ps4 only.

Only minor stuff and third parties had crossgen versions.

Hulst and Nishino have adopted a “show, don’t tell” leadership style at PlayStation. “It’s important we convey our strategy,” says Hulst. “But at the end of the day, I am with the creators a big chunk of time.”

Nishino is on the same page: “To me, the product, the content, it should be the forward-facing things,” he says, adding self-effacingly: “Behind the scenes, who is the guy doing it? It doesn’t matter.”

Trouble is when the people behind the scenes start doing a noticeably bad job, it’s hard not to question who is the guy doing it?

2028 it is then.

And yeah, bring back Kaz, start selling hardware at a loss again, see the company entering into red numbers again only for “PS users” saying things like “how this happened?”.

So stoopid buying studios that hasn't made one single ip!. I can understand organic growth but it's to the point that I'm seeing remakes or remasters. Just for once I would love to see sony buy studios that has atleast have some ips under there belt. Hell ubisoft is going down under buy ubisoft and I know one game that could possibly do well and redo RogueSpear popular shooter back in the 90s and I reckon it will do well again! Man I miss the map bunkers

It was largely in reverse in the past because the launch PS3 had a PS2 GS and EmotionEngine chip, and PS2 could play all PS1 games by default, but outside the PS3 launch models as the BC feature was removed we still got a PS3 patch for the PS2 version of SotC making it cross-gen first party, and even got remastered versions later in the gen as a sort of cross-gen.

Games like Gran Turismo HD concept on PS3 were just patched segments of GT4 content running on PS3, and prologue, 5 and 6, and even 7 at launch all still had the millions of tiny files solution of GT4, not quite cross-gen, but still a sign of even the mighty Polyphony not rebuilding assets to fit a new game with a new architecture that isn't constrained by memory when loading files.

That is still pretty different from straight up making a ps4 and ps5 version of the same game.

For PS1 and PS2 games running on the next console, or the SotC PS2 version getting a patch on PS3 it is physically different, but semantically no different. it still leads to selling the same games cross-gen.

You all underwent rounds of layoffs earlier this year similar to those that hit the entire gaming industry in 2024. But Microsoft recently had new ones, you all have taken “Concord” offline, and you had additional cuts at Bungie. What is the current outlook for PlayStation and expectations of studios and games being shut down moving forward?

Hulst: I will say a few things on that. It’s our duty to look at our our resource planning, and make sure that we run a sustainable business. That’s part of being CEO. We never take that lightly, because we know these people personally, and it’s very close to our hearts and the teams and good working atmospheres. But yes, we’ve had some layoffs. But it’s also important to realize that on the content side, PlayStation Studios is now a much bigger organization than when it started. It’s grown tremendously. And that is organic growth that our existing teams, I think, hired quite aggressively, as well as through M&A. So the organization, the employment is much greater now than it was, let’s say, for example, five years ago.

Where did Hermen get those words to explain the need to layoffs and close Studios?.....🤔😂

I never really believed the rumors that Jim Ryan was forced to leave but if there is any truth to it, it's because of the decisions to buy Bungie and the Concord dev. It was a change of strategy for Sony and IMO it failed. Bungie still has a chance to turn things around but it's gamble at this point.

I doubt we ever see Sony do this again especially now that they see if wasn't even necessary. MS got so big and their hardware sales dropped so fast they were forced to go 3rd party.

Dark times for forum gaming discussion.
FTFY.
Yep. He gave a complete non-answer to the question "Do you have big title announcements coming soon tied to Pro or for the next gen?"
Dumb to expect him to confirm that in an interview, but as Hulst and Nishino said here, "show, don't tell".
What PlayStation and we need is Kaz Hirai back to fix this mess, along with all the memes, GIFs, hype, and the fake Twitter account.

That's how you make PlayStation great again.
Stop obsessing over CEOs and mindless hype.

MLB The Show 14-16, SingStar: Ultimate Party, LittleBigPlanet 3, Helldivers, Hohokum, Doki-Doki Universe, CounterSpy, Entwined and (kinda) Resogun.
Previous to that; several MLB, NBA and SingStar games, as well as Buzz!: Brain of the World and RA. ONE: The Game, were released on PS2/PS3.
