Whatever dude I lost enough time with this. If you don't want to understand what I mean, you wont for sure. Have a nice day.

The condescension is very strong here I see. But it goes with the person I suppose.
"lmao"
I understand what you mean. But, you're misunderstanding what a critique is, especially a fair one. But yeah, you do you, I guess. I agree to disagree.

Probably the comment about it never coming out. And complaining about unfinished aspects of an unfinished game.
I mean, sure, maybe a bit over the top, but that shit happens in game development. That doesn't mean he hates the game (and he has said as much). It's a comment and critique on the industry at large. And, again, as I've said in the past in this thread, is a very fair one. I don't know how else to explain it other than that.

It will run on consoles just fine, keep in mind that all lighting is already precomputed into the environment and consoles nowadays have plenty of VRAM for that.
Idk about that, the UE5 matrix demo had consoles stuttering way beneath 30fps and even that didn't look as photorealistic as this. Maybe you're right about "precomputed lighting" though, idk.

I don't doubt that level of lighting quality is possible with today's technology, but the quality and variety of animation in combination with the dynamic camera looks almost too good to be true. There is a somewhat similar aiming system in games like Red Orchestra 2 and Rising Storm where you can move your gun's aiming point anywhere within a "box" on the screen without significantly shifting your field of vision, but this seems to be on an entirely different level.

Really hoping this pans out and delivers on the premise.

It would be fair if it was nearing release. Save critiques for art design, level design, etc.

He did. And people got bent out of shape about it. Either way, I'm done discussing this. I've made my points.
No he didn’t. Lying doesn’t make something true. Grow up.
Edit: here’s the text.

“It looks very realistic/photorealistic, but lightning is still rough. No RT, no shadows in the characters, lacking AO. Some furniture objects have very low geometry, like the final coach, which is basically a cube, and enemies are not that good.

The studio doesn't have publisher or money, so don't expect this to be released soon (or ever).”

Cores, shaders and BIOS oh my!
Its not on rails but its completely photoscanned meaning you cannot interact with any objectives like the barrels
So, moving goal posts it is. Also that's another dumb take, at least one standard marketplace 3D asset pack for themed objects like that has been shown to be in use in these videos (whether placeholder or not). Whether they're made interactive or not is another matter. They never promised, or showed, amazing next gen physics, fully procedurally destructible environments a la R6 Siege (meaning most games don't have that so it's still big news when one does) or expensive AAA set pieces a la COD when folks claimed it's all fake or on rails or FMV, just an understated narrative adventure meets fps likened to Firewatch x Ready or Not. Clearly they have a vision and are going after it in a viable way rather than just boast about technology and feature creep and propose something impossible for a tiny indie studio with like 3 known devs to accomplish. Whine harder, it's so becoming.

Indies were doing this a decade ago thanks to photogrammetry, it's a legit tool that's grown in use since then, not somethin that diminishes the results shown here in any way as if they're taking a shortcut or limiting what they can do by utilizing it more than the small studio size does. Games like Firewatch were hardly interactive without using such a pipeline anyway, that wasn't their end goal or point, but no, games using it don't necessarily have to be some completely static devoid of interactivity thing or whatever you're imagining here. That's all up to their game design.

How's the average or better than average game like Half-Life Alyx so much more interactive in terms of environments? Only objects are interactive, not every wall or random prop, only what has some gameplay purpose and some decorative stuff like the barrels you mention or bottles, coke cans and other clutter objects, not the environment itself for most of the game, even the foliage doesn't really move and nobody complained and it's been praised as a game and visually too. Now it's a problem these people aren't making a photorealistic Teardown or The Finals? Seriously, this 3 person developed game has to be the one to get all the backlash ever? From being so good it's fake to being a cop game to not being good enough because it doesn't bring next gen physics like most games haven't since the next gen hardware launched? Come on, go pick on someone your size folks.

The bolded is what I'm talking about. These are his critiques, which I believe are small critiques. I don't care what y'all call them, but to me these are critiques.

The other part is his opinion on it's eventual release. That, of which, I do not agree with.

There is nothing here that I am lying about and is just a matter of opinion. I have stated that I agree to disagree, so please drop it.

The bolded is about a game far from release. If it was coming out in 3 months I would agree. It currently has no release date.
It could also be bull crap and the final game will look worse. I will wait until near release to make any technical judgement.

Great, very happy for you.

It's just standard FPS with fisheye camera. Since when body cam is mounted in line of aiming devices?

I agree that it's just a fisheye lens, but that's not quite what I'm talking about. I'm not sure what you mean by the second sentence.

There's a fair amount of arm-bobbing and recoiling going on, and you can see that sometimes he turns the gun without turning his body.
It looks an awful lot like Tarkov's free-aim system, but much much smoother. If so, that would be awesome.
But it also kinda looks like The Darkness, which means it might just be random animations instead of actual gameplay. If so, that is also nice, but less awesome.
There are also moments, like at 1:10 with the drone, where the ADS doesn't even come close to looking down the actual sites. He's also still able to track the drone with just his arms, which almost looks like an auto-aim.

So yeah, it looks really cool. I'm just curious how it works.

Ok. Still doesnt explain the VR movement of the hands. How is the mouse and keyboard creating such a smooth animation transition?

At one point, he brings the gun up to his chest. how did he do that?

I want to believe so bad, but this shits on every game made by all these fancy AAA devs over at Naughty Dog, Rockstar and CD project. I have seen demos with photorealistic assets but this captures the atmosphere so well that its almost too realistic. Matrix still looks like a video game compared to this.

Not that I’ve been in a shooting, but this looks like any of my body cam footage when on calls and whatnot. Pretty crazy. Maybe a little too fisheyed in the fov, but still pretty close.

I think no one really was shooting for these aesthetics, maybe since stalker alpha screenshots but even then it went back to something more dialed back as far as using real life texture and the photorealism faded, since then it's been cartoony games with still nice looking graphics. It was only a matter of time someone used technology to fully delve into a photo realitic experience, like the Paris demo, that's from years ago and it captures at some parts a photo realistic experience, but it's a small room so it's very limited. The titanic demo is another example.

There are imperfections in the animations

Matrix is real time though, this one here looks like baked environment lighting. But since its a one man indie game, it may never come to consoles anyway, who knows.

Just bear in mind that the result here is the product of a whole bunch of "best of"-cases when it comes to presenting as photo-realistically as possible.
Overcast skies so the flatness of the lighting is extra convincing, tons of rigid inorganic surfaces (as per the Matrix demo, no animation), minimal vegetation, and of course the whole image is full-screen filtered and distorted for the faux-verite bodycam look.

I stress, this is not to talk down the effect, which is impressive. Just to point out its careful to avoid things that would break the illusion of reality.

Looks cool but it will probably run at like 25fps on consoles. If it is even able to run on consoles.

Lets just wait until 10th gen for these graphics so we don't go back to 30fps and lower being the norm.

this game is like Driveclub.
it uses a specific effect to hide the fact that the graphics underneath are basically super generic and not that impressive.
this could easily run on last gen even.

DriveClub did it by relying on rain and motion blur to hide how shit it looked, and this game does it by having fisheye distortion, a shaky cam, and body cam typical video filters.

Id also add theres a big difference between photogrametry objects scanned in different locations bashed together and something like this where the entire scene is scanned at a real location at the same time making the baked lighting on everything unified. File size must be huge.

This has to be trolling or forced contrarianism. This is the most realistic game we have seen footage of so far by lightyears and looks indistinguishable from real life at a glance.

Doesn't matter what techniques are used. All games "cheat" with techniques to make their games look better. Driveclub looked nowhere near as realistic as this.

Some people still think it's fake because of the quality. No it's definitely not. But fluid movement gameplay similar to cod and others is simply impossible with this style. Here is another impressive UE5 demo with true photorealism.

That demo and this

But for Unrecord i think the shading and cam look is making the heavy lifting to trick out mind

Reference :

The cam footage look can hide a shitload of detail and still make it believable. We basically grew up on shit cam footage as TV feed for most of the time and our brain just kinds of accepts it.
For body cam, the lack of quality... is a quality.

You know those fake VR porn that wrap around your vision to create immersion ? Well yea this looks like it
Those are videos though and really limited, you can turn your head and peek into a little, but the immersion goes away really fast because you know it's a video, not just porn videos though.

Wow, is there a reason why you seems against this game? Of course early gameplay won't look perfect but what I'm seeing here is very promising.

Btw graphics are good enough for an indie studio.
They are way more than “good enough” for an indie studio. That’s grossly understating what they’ve managed to show us.

As for the other guy pointing out all the other nonsense, he’s coping hard with sheer disbelief in production quality even without those shaders and lighting computations.
