Despite the avalanche of jokes, I think the new marketing has been a success. It gets the message across. Sounds like its timed to lead into an announcement. All pretty logical.

What message did it get across exactly?

Maybe native Xbox Store/Game Pass integration into Steam OS making way for the future?

Does this also mean Xbox will stop making hardware in the near future?

Oh my god, omg, what could he possibly mean?!?!?!

It's so freaking obvious
what this means.

They've been talking about expanding the ability to stream Xbox games onto other things like smart TVs, cell phones, tablets, etc.

This stupid campaign is simply going to be showing all sorts of devices that you wouldn't think you could play Xbox games being able to stream Xbox games onto.

The people featured in the commercials will be the most least likely people to ever play a video game in their life.

Incredible mystery solved!!!

Typically, marketing campaigns explain things to customers. They themselves don't then need explanation, otherwise this defeats the intended purpose.

In any case, I suspect "make more sense soon" would be an announcement that drives home the point of the campaign. Which to me reads the announcement was timed for after the campaign made its waves. And if an announcement requires a marketing campaign before hand, then I suspect it'll be a doozy. Xbox announcing its third party shift officially, with all future Xbox games coming to Nintendo and PlayStation being front and center, fits the bill.

I'm sure I'm wrong. I believe Microsoft will expand the Xbox brand to anything that can run a game.

So you'll be able to download the Xbox Game Store on your iOS, Android, and play Starfield on your phone.

Your laptop will be an Xbox, your PC will be an Xbox, your TV will be an Xbox.

And they'll keep releasing video games that will just be called Xbox.
It’s a pity no one wants to play their games.
