Tom Henderson - EXCLUSIVE - Assassin's Creed Black Flag Remake is Closer Than You Think

Ahh, the AC game in which I knew I was done with the AC franchise. A lot liked this game, I wasn't one them lol. Felt like a slog from the beginning and never made it too far in the game and gave the disc to my bro. One of the last Ubisoft games I bought too.

Not interested because I don't like the AC series.
However, for other Xbox gamers, this would be a welcome remake, since the original release never got any enhancement and runs at a poorly rendered 900p.

always remakes. just take this formula and setting and put it in a new story.
or even better make a black flag sequel.
or a "black flag" game of the spanish/portuguese in japan like the tv show shogun instead of AC Shadows.

Well they might as well recycled some of those Skull and Bones assets into something people actually might want to buy.
But yeah I'd much have preferred a black flag 2 or a proper new standalone pirate game.

I have heard they did a race swap and are renaming it AC: Black Pirate

Be like "We've listened to your concern and decided to make sure the main character is native to the setting, we will now have actual Caribbean person as the main character"

This game still looks and plays great. The MP is still kinda active on PC/Steam/Uplay.

I don’t get why this needs a remaster let alone a remake.

Remake AC 1. That’s the starting point and had a few cool ideas but plays really bad in 2024/25. Also constantly freezes on PC because the servers are offline, bad audio mix and no subtitles 😂😂 classic Ubisoft.

Remaking AC 1 and adding a new MP mode to freshen up the series and entice new players would be cool but it’s Ubisoft, no way they will do something this good.

What is the closest thing to "I just never think about it, never dream about it, never talk about it, never remember it was a thing?!?" Just tell me Tom, what is the closest thing to ZERO....

I would definitely go back through this one again. Loved the ship fights, and the stealth was not stupidly easy like more recent Ubisoft games, could actually have some challenge

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
Releasing a whole calendar year later isn't exactly 'sooner than you think' category. The way this had been rumored for months, I thought this would be a Q1 game or so, but that was before Shadows itself got delayed.

Dude, it’s stuck at 900p on Xbox and 1080p on PlayStation, both versions are 30fps and look dreadful these days. It’s needed.

The more WTF thing from that article is that they're planning to release 10 Assassin's Creed titles in the next 5 years. Like holy mother of over-saturation!

Insider Gaming understands that this is part of Ubisoft’s ramp-up strategy for the Assassin’s Creed series, which will see around 10 Assassin’s Creed titles of various lengths and experiences released in the next five years. This includes Assassin’s Creed codename Jade, a fully-fledged mobile offering with a tentative date in Q2 2025 (FYQ1 26).

We first got wind of an Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Remake earlier this year, and information sent to Insider Gaming suggests that the game could be coming sooner than you might think.

When rumors of the Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Remake began to circulate on the internet, many, including ourselves, assumed that the game would still be some years away from releasing. However, new details and documentation on the game sent to Insider Gaming under the condition that it does not go public suggest that the game is well into development and could be released much sooner than we all thought.

In fact, prior to the recent Assassin’s Creed Shadows delay, which is understood to have affected the Assassin’s Creed pipeline of content releases, the Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Remake (codenamed Obsidian) was to be released around November 2025, which would be around the same time that the series’ multiplayer offering, codenamed Invictus, is to be released.

Unfortunately, though, the recent Assassin’s Creed Shadows delay, which Marc-Alexis Côté said to said staff in an internal email “will also impact the rest of the Assassin’s Creed roadmap,” may have skewed these dates a little. That being said, to some, the Black Flag Remake is probably coming a few years earlier than some of us may have expected.

Gameplay sent to Insider Gaming of the Black Flag Remake under the condition that it does not go public shows Edward Kenway sailing a ship on the upgraded Anvil Engine.

Would love a Black Flag 2, give it the full oceanic exploration of Odyssey but keep the pirate theme.

I get it, original IPs are scary...

Risky
Not a guaranteed seller
Require creativity
Hard work
remakes is a way for influencers to retread things many of us older gamers have seen with fresh-er eyes

You want to remake PS2/Wii/DC/Box classics or even earlier than I say
Futurama Buy GIF

But to this remakes of last gen or sooner crap I say STOP BEING LAZY

In the past you achieved this giving us memorable characters and scenarios, amazing gameplay and tense gaming sessions, don't let Asia eat your lunch (as this is mostly a Western gaming issue)

After all, if you make new shit this gen you can remaster/remake it again next gen

Here's a sort of outdated roadmap, it's from one of his earlier articles:
  • Assassin’s Creed Mirage [Single-player] (production) – October 12, 2023
  • Assassin’s Creed Nexus [VR] (production) – 2023
  • Assassin’s Creed Codename Jade [Mobile] (production) – Expected 2023
  • Assassin’s Creed Codename Red [Single-player] (production) – Sources Suggest 2024
  • Assassin’s Creed Codename Hexe [Single-player] (pre-production) – Expected 2025/2026
  • Assassin’s Creed Codename Invictus [Multiplayer] (pre-production) – Expected 2025/2026
  • Assassin’s Creed Codename Nebula [Single-player] (concept/prototype) – Unknown
  • Assassin’s Creed Codename Raid [Multiplayer] (concept/prototype) – Unknown
  • Assassin’s Creed Codename Echoes [Multiplayer] (concept/prototype) – Unknown
  • Assassin’s Creed Nexus 2 [VR] (being discussed internally) – Unknown
  • Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Remake [Single-player] (just greenlit) – Unknown
Since the first 2 are already out, 9 of them are on this list. There's also another remake coming but Tom didn't specify which one. Half of it is multiplayer stuff and outside Hexe and Nebula it's remakes.

I wouldn't be surprised if that other remake is the very first game or AC2 (like to remake the entire Ezio thing)
