No.

I have 2 questions guys

1. Is there a way of finding how many shrines I have completed without counting on the map?

2. Is Hyrule Castle something that should be left right til the end or can I go there and get at least some way into it for sidequests and then come back when more powered up?

Thanks.

1. You can see it in the loading screen, it's one of the numbers on the top right corner. Number of shrines completed is right next to the diamond-shaped icon

Haven't gone to Hyrule Castle yet so can't answer the second one

2. Yes you can. (Easiest if you sneak in from the back though.)

Do I need ancient arrows to beat guardians? I just can't get past them without, but those arrows are expensive to buy!

I'm close to finishing the game if I want but I can't even beat a guardian or a Lynell at this point!

You can beat them with parrying (see end of previous page), but it's IMO a bit more difficult. One big tip for the Lynels is to mount them. I've got good luck with that. And just using higher level weapons against them and getting the heck out of dodge when they attack.

When you say close to finishing the game, do you mean like 100%ing it or just the main story? I'm wondering how high level weapons etc. you're getting.

If you defeat a Guardian with or without an arrow, you will get a lot of Guardian parts that are helpful in buying more arrows. And if it's a rupee issue, there are a lot of ways to make money in this game. :)

First few links here can definitely help on that front.

Thanks for the answer! I haven't found the 'The Kakariko Village Shrine' so I guess I have to go back and find it so I can learn to parrying!

With close to finishing I mean that I have the master sword and beat al the define beast, my best weapons are around 50 I guess but these are the heavy weapons. Right now I'm trying to get enough rupees to pay the last fairy!

No prob! And yeah, those are some very strong weapons! Maybe mounting Lynels will help. Or attacking from more of a distance to give yourself some more time, or trying a different armor out when fighting them. :)

Well, you can teach yourself parrying if need be. It might be helpful. But you can just use ancient arrows more easily (IMO) and those links should help you get enough rupees and the Guardians should give you enough gear to make them.

Day 2:

Dear diary, I'm slowly making progress with the strange orbs someone left on this island. Even though I lost all my clothes and possessions, I'm determined to solve this mystery, since some voice told me to and the bastard knicked all my stuff. I saw a glowing light emitting from a platform off the shore. I believe they are somehow connected. Unfortunately, I dropped the orb I found from a moblin encampment when I got hit by an octorok and it fell into a swamp pit. The orb has mysteriously vanished so I spent some time exploring the island. The rainstorms made it difficult however. It wasn't in vain as I found a woodcutter's axe. I tried to build a bridge by cutting down the palm trees with an axe I found. The results were unsatisfactory as they drifted away from the shore. They weren't long enough to form a bridge. After pondering and wandering around the island, the orb has somehow transported back to its original location. I took it to the shore where I kept thinking how to get it to the platform. It's too heavy to throw and the water is too deep to walk up. I was afraid it would vanish again if I dropped it in the sea. After walking on a floating log with the orb and accidentally dropping it, I made a big discovery. The orb floats in salt water. That makes it much easier. I only had to climb on a log, pick up the orb and throw it on the platform.

Tomorrow, I will see if I can take the orb without waking the giant troll up. Using force with just an axe and a few wooden sticks, without protection, seems ill-advised...

Just ordered a full Link costume, with Master Sword and Hero Shield, for my seven year old. He's gonna flip out. He's already defeated all the divine beasts and loves the heck out of this game.

I’m finally getting back to this after dropping off of it a month after it came out and I’m 35 hours in on a new save and just finished the Gerudo dungeon and...... I hated it

the camel beast was my least favourite by a long way
Yeah it was annoying as hell. It was also first dungeon I’ve done this save and I’ve been using all of my shrine orbs on stamina so I only had three hearts so the boss was more difficult than it should have been

At least I’m through it now. I’ve dont the Zora and Goron dungeons on an old save so the only real unknown I have is the giant bird thing

That tower in the Akkala region was something else.

I kinda made it up there eventually, but in retrospect I'd like to know 2 things.

1.) Is there a way to get rid of that purple goo?

2.) Do you ever get equipment that lets you climb during rain? That was really the biggest obstacle, the whole tower took me like 2-3 in-game days because the area has almost constant rain and thunder.

1) No. Well, there might be some eyeballs to shoot to clear a little? I don't think so though.

2) Not really. There is some climbing gear you can get that will increase your climb speed and decrease stamina usage though. Your best bet for climbing in the rain is to stick to a pattern of 3-4 "steps" followed by a leap, and repeat. You'll continuously make progress that way, but you'll use a fair bit of stamina, so you'll need potions and/or the climbing gear. There's also an ability from a Devine Beast that helps negate chunks of climbing in general.

Okay I accidentally took the orb on top of the hill down the hill and now I need octo balloons to lift it back up only it will only go straight up so there's no way to pick it up wtf

Edit: okay so four octoballoons is too much and one balloon is too little. Then I used up all the balloons so I had to wait for the blood moon to respawn the octorocks and they don't drop balloons anymore. FUCK THIS STUPID CHALLENGE

Man... what? lol

You seem to be massively over-complicating the whole island.

Picked this up on the Switch not too long ago and been slowly making progress.

Just did my first Divine Beast tonight and man that whole scene with
Mipha
, right in the feels.

Probably a stupid question, 60hrs in, one device beast down, however I’m at the castle at the moment and I defeat it, will the game or story be finished, and can I still defeat the other devine beasts?

it auto-saves before ganon. there is no post-ganon world state.

I had a half year hiatus and I never really did a lot of shrines back then. It's my first Hinox for example. Anyway, the problem was I thought there was only one place where I could place those orbs not knowing there were two more on the island which are obstructed for some reason. So I did the hill second and left the Hinox last. I went down the hill with the orb, placed it on the already blue shrine, realized it didn't take it, went and look for another and placed it on the shrine that was supposed to be used for the Hinox orb. So now I had to kill the Hinox and move the orb somehow on top of the hill, except you can't really walk up there without climbing.

It's just dumb design to not have the orbs be really interchangeable and have shrines being covered by a bunch of metal crates and a giant plate. It shouldn't even be classified as a puzzle. It's a non-puzzle. So now I have to give up, leave the island and do it the correct way.

So at this point i totally wouldn't be surprised if right after Mario Odyssey releases, they drop a trailer for the Champion's Ballad announcing that it will be released like the week after. I don't think we'll get a month gap between info and release.

Presumably it comes out the same day as the amiibo which is November 10. Two weeks later.

I read this several times and still don’t understand what you’re trying to achieve. It’s not a “puzzle” in the sense that you have to solve for a specific problem (outside how to connect the lock and key). It is more of a “challenge” in that you are stripped of your usual equipment and are meant to scavenge to make it through. There is no right way or predetermined path. You explore, you survive, you overcome.

I accidentally took the orb on top of the mountain down the mountain and used it to unlock a different lock. I now have no way to unlock the lock on top of that mountain because I need to climb up that mountain with the last remaining orb in hand.

Is it possible to stasis the orbs? I haven’t played in a while and can’t recall. You might be able to hit one up there.

I am also pretty sure there is a path that is possible to walk up. It might be a small course, but if I remember correctly I did the same thing you did and finished the island anyway.

The way I saw it, each unforeseen problem was a spontaneous challenge to confront. I know it can be frustrating, but one of the biggest draws of BotW for me was those little moments of unexpected friction... they prompted an exploration of options and abilities that most other games rarely provide.

Well, the mountain is quite vertical so I'm not sure at which angle and how many times you're supposed to hit it. I tried it with octoballoons a half dozen times but it didn't work.

I'm just miffed there's a way to fail that challenge that doesn't involve dying, since like you said, the whole point of that challenge is to beat it naked. So at this point it is a bit like a puzzle that isn't very clever.

There is probably a way to solve for this. Whether or not you are willing to invest the time and energy to overcome that wall of frustration is a personal choice. Worst case, you restart and take an easier path. I get the annoyance, trust me.

Eventide was also the place one of my biggest “bullshit!” moments occurred. I played it with three hearts and no upgrades to speak of. I was on my way to finish the island, bringing the last orb to its pedestal—the easy one, in the water. I had the camera turned backwards as I ran so I could avoid bokoblins arrowing me from a tower. I had cleared up the rest of the island and had nothing to worry about. Then bam, a chest octorok pops up and takes me out with a single hit. I had to step away.

Going 3 hearts sounds like a great idea actually. It's way too easy with 10+ hearts. Not sure why people hype it so much honestly. Taking away all your earned hearts would have been an upgrade.

After giving this game another try it’s really clicked and I’m really enjoying it.

One thing I have noticed though which is irritating is the pop in, like it’s quite bad, especially enemy camps, I might be able to see one at a short distance, look through the scope etc and see no enemies but as I get closer they just pop in. Even bushes, rocks etc pop in too. It’s so bad I’m wondering whether my Switch is faulty or something lol. The reason I say it might be faulty is because I’m on a replacement Switch now and I don’t remember the pop in being so bad the last time I played it but granted I wasn’t as invested in the game.

It’s quite odd because on the one hand the draw distance is great, I can see towers etc or landmarks for miles in the distance but then random bushes, rocks, enemies etc just pop in.

Anyone notice what I’m talking about?

I've been playing it again recently. Thanks to the hero's path feature, I can see where I have never visited even after beating the game and getting all the shrines. I'm amazed at all the locals and places I never touched. Although I have ascended to godhood status, I still find interesting combat scenarios and beautiful scenery. Plus there's at least a korok hiding around somewhere. This is such a relaxing game to just walk around in. While we can poke fun at some bad textures, this game looks absolutely gorgeous thanks dynamic lighting and a truly hand-crafted world.

This game is just too good. I don't want to doubt Mario... but this game is just too good.

When do we expect to get news about the second DLC? VGAs?

Maybe week or two after Mario releases? Keep the train consistently rolling, drop an amazing game, generate more hype for the machine at the same time, then start hyping DLC for on of their best Zelda games, 1,2 punch.

Decided to poke around the Plateau for Koroku on my quest for the remaining ~150 I need to find, not expecting to find many. Found like four within a few hundred meters of each other lmao.

We cannot be friends if finding Koroks doesn’t tickle you like it does me, because I love these lil fellers

The laughter that was had, the first time I told my buddy to press "b" after unearthing a Korok under a big rock.

"OOMPH!"

Just got a Switch and this yesterday. This is my first Zelda game after 20+ years of gaming believe it or not!

I'm dilly dallying about on the Great Plateau - done a couple of Shrines, found my first Korok, murdered a squirrel, accidentally thrown a weapon off a cliff, got mauled by a giant rock dude - 1-2 hours well spent!

I've spent most of my time aimlessly wandering. Even though I've unlocked the map, I'm finding it difficult to orientate myself.
