True. Isn't it odd though that most franchises are being destroyed in this way en masse?

It now looks like Warhammer is next. Isn't that odd and totally out of the blue?

This is all on purpose.

But why?

Some people think, this is the way to disrupt our society to keep fighting each other. I heard that at some point in 2011/2013, there is one event, when some people in "certain country" unified to fight capitalism in that "country" then bam!! we got these issues. In which we fight each other. And forgot about fighting capitalism or something which upset some rich or something else who doesnt want people to joined in one greater good for them.

But thats what i read on the net though, just saying.

i too, still not believe it...

Yeah when you work backwards to see what's going on, it's actually fascinating. There's people in, let's call them "intellectual jobs" who are making use of the ideas of philosophers of the past 200 years, without any sentimentality for the philosophers or societies based on the philosophies of the pre industrial age (we'll call them the "wisdom of the ancients" or the Pragmatic approach). My brother actually has a ton of those books, and every time I went to his bookshelves to read the titles, I'd just read the titles out loud in a pretentious way as a joke "Hegel's .... Phenomenology of Spirit." Turns out, there's people who actually read and put into practice the books that we made fun of as pretentious when we did our STEM degrees in college.

To keep it gaming related, I now realize that lots of JRPGs are actually telling stories based on societies that are structured around those sorts of post modern philosophies, so I just wish the woke people would please just leave the JRPG character designs alone, the JRPGs are the games that actually explore the possibilities of what they're trying to put into practice. Like just as an example. Amalthus in Xenoblade 2 experienced a traumatic event in childhood, which set into motion a plan to create a new made up religion, a new set of rules for human/blade relations, and a rise to power by taking over institutions all just to enact revenge on the society that led to his traumatic event in childhood because he concluded that society is bad by default and has to be negated. And this while having revealing character designs and a comical artstyle :p

Elden Ring, Ff7Rebirth, etc. Plenty of great new content to enjoy.
I think at least part of the reason for that is that those are Japanese franchises. So they're not as infected with Western ideologies.

I don't think it was out of nowhere. I knew Warhammer was going to offend the knee. I actually have Warhammer fans get mad at me when I said it was going to happen soon and I proved myself correct.

People got a factor in that most, if not pretty much all, Western entertainment is run by (modern) progressives, many who lean farther to the left.

I'm watching the new TMNT animated flick and for the life of me I can't figure out why they made April so fat. They could have made her cute SO EASILY, it's just bizarre.
Unfortunately as the U.S. population is growing fatter and fatter (not only them) it appears that the commercial preference is not to push against that but to normalise it and profit off of it.

well, either that, or they'll just drop the cracks & start using 'squeeze through this door' instead...

All those invisible walls in old games that consisted of like a bucket, that characters should have been able to step over but couldn't, will now make so much more sense... To a fat person, that's like traversing over a 6' high fence.

Seriously though, the people trying to push fat characters talk about making the character look that way to be more representative of reality. Somehow I'm supposed to believe a fat character can traverse sprawling landscapes (whether walking, running, jumping, climbing, swimming, etc.), swing a giant sword or handle a gun with crazy recoil, etc.

How the is that more believable than a hot female character (who probably has more muscle and stamina) doing the very same thing. The delusions are real.

I noticed that this whole woke movement seem to have started around 2014. It's probably been brewing sooner than that but maybe that's when I started to notice. Not coincidentally this is when Gamergate happened.

My own speculation is that all this crazy far left thinking and implementation was backlash against the Gamergate movement.

It was 2011 and the Occupy Wall Street movement, that was the last time the "left" was truly united and even had support from a lot of right leaning blue collar workers too. The attention was pushed against the bankers who were profiting from the 2008 financial crash they caused, it was a real common man Vs big banks thing.

After that was disbanded is where oddly the seeds were planted which you could say lead to the distractions and infighting we have today, suddenly race issues was everywhere, sexism was the go to complaint, we got culture wars, gamergate, me too, etc, etc, where it feels like the focus has shifted on keeping us all fighting each other.

It was on Tumblr before that.

I remember people laughing at an image of a gendergoblin getting mad at the male\female choice at the start of Pokémon on something awful in 2008. Said goblin now holds sway over the entire franchise.

What kicked it off in earnest are some the teenagers of the time graduating into influential positions in firms and the rest of those teenagers gaining spending power, which firms need to target.

The firms attacked on Occupy Wall St. now have floats at pride marches, so yeah.

But Occupy Wall St played its own part in this. See: 'the progressive stack' form of setting policy within that movement.

I think what really made everything go crazy and everybody go crazy was Donald Trump in 2016. That's pretty much when the insanity peaked.

You hit upon the true nature and purpose of modern progressivism - revenge. A lot of “liberals” are people who had miserable childhoods or teen years, wormed their way into positions of power, and now are taking revenge for their suffering on the whole world. All the talk of “social justice” is BS. It’s vengeance they want.

When thinking about this subject, I often think back to Anita's line that was something about "we're not trying to take away your games" which is exactly what they've been doing and trying to do for years now.

Like I'm fine with some games not having attractive female leads. I don't buy them, but as a concept I'm fine with it. But there should also be games WITH attractive females for that market. The general sentiment among western game devs for the past few years is that there is no place for attractive feminine characters in modern gaming. It's so damn crazy when you think about it.

The concept they use is called Negative Dialectics. So certain social events that happened in the 2010s, which we saw as isolated incidents between individuals, the younger people were taught to see them as results of the system itself and that the system itself is fundamentally bad therefore led to those events and the culture that created that “fundamentally-ist” system needs to be negated by showing “opposite” versions of cultural output (part of a larger project to change the society through negation). We could look at data and say those were rare isolated incidents and conclude not to radically change the system (the pragmatic approach) but to them it doesn’t matter that they are rare. School was changed to teach critical pedagogy rather than “pragmatic pedagogy” (Western Civilization/Pragmatic academics, preparing to produce in Western individually driven industrial society, choosing action for oneself by carefully considering data or opinion from conservative and progressive argument) and the concept is that by constantly criticizing what’s seen in society, supposedly what remains is based on a better(?) morality system, they actually don’t have a specific plan for it, just that doing it (negation) needs to be done continuously.

In practice that seems to look like a “blandification” of cultural output since each negation adds a new set of rules to a checklist in my opinion. We also see a duty-bound deliberate showing of aesthetics that are opposite of aesthetic intuition. If you check PR firms and what their mission is now, you see a lot of “create change that matters” and “There’s no longer a mainstream with diverse niches” “change the institutions that are fundamentally -ist” so apparently the purpose of products is no longer made for the individual satisfaction, but to change society (cynically, propaganda). There’s still producers who make games for individual satisfaction and I definitely buy those games since I know how to find them, and cherish them even more than ever, but then we see criticism directed at those games instantaneously by certain people. It’s how those people were taught though. And to keep this all lighthearted, I sure am looking forward to the JRPGs that are based on what’s happening haha

Why do they always use the "jerk off to" argument? Why does everything have to be about sex to the progressives? When CLEARLY they win in the "r34 and genderbending porn" category?
Some might say it's what the whole ideology has stemmed from so it's all they know at the core.

I remember reading in the early net days on SA forums and other out of the way forums of small groups of degenerates.
It was always based around sex and "look how wild/ nsfw I am". You might argue that it's a subset to furries.
Hell i remember a mate sending me a site where they all larped as different types of vampires. It reminds me of the genders today.
Again it was all a coating for sex fantasies.
Over the years it seemed to have grown on more notable sites like tumbler and reddit.

Past ten years has been a wild fire. Just growing and morphing into what we have today.

Just a theory though.

That degenerate sex worker posing as a "journalist" is clearly exposed as the fraud she is here. It's funny that she implies guys don't wash and such because from where I'm standing she is one disgustingly dirty looking bitch, with all her nasty tattoos and such. I feel like I need a shower every time I see people like her.

A shame about Hades II though. I enjoyed the first game a lot but hearing that DEI consulting was used for the sequel makes me not want to buy it.

As far as arguments go, it's indeed very low hanging fruit, but you gotta remember, that's pretty much the extent of her reach.

There's nothing perverted or sexual about wanting attractive characters in your entertainment. The movie industry has been doing it for over a century because it's what people want. Even more so these days when you have to look at so many degenerates during your day, so when you come home, you just don't want to see more of them in your entertainment.

Of course not. I understand that hormone fueled me could fantasize about some actress or game character when i was like 12, but i'm way past that. These days i see 2B's ass dancing on the screen and i do think it's pretty but i don't whip my dick out.

Bingo. They measure everything with sex.

There's so much ignorant use of "they" with people like this. There's tonnes of different people with different views on this matter - including women and people who aren't inclined to "jerk off" to attractive female characters. Whenever I see takes like that, it immediately tells me this is a person so wrapped up in their own views that they are no longer capable of looking at matters objectively - ie. they're not worth listening to.

I think he's specifically talking about that disgusting mercante who makes pathetic justifications over her 'principles' like this below - e.g. what about Aphrodite in God of War 3?

While she slams other points which have at least a strong argument for leaving hot women in games. Only superhuman gods can be hot now - it's unthinkable that there might just be a regular woman who can be a protagonist. Who is thin, good looking and has a traditional hourglass figure.

THERES A PURPOSE TO HER BEING HOT THOU!!!!!!!

That's who I was talking about too. Her and others like her are always talking about this mysterious "they" or "gamers" when it comes to subjects like this. I've seen so many different opinions when it comes to this issue. It's become obvious that it's a more nuanced discussion, but the anti-beauty brigade keeps coming up with the same generalizations about people they've never met or spoken to. With regards to her argument that it's okay for a god to be hot - that's just sad at this point. Good looking people exist in real life too, after all.

source on that? Grummz doesn’t say that (and even praises Hades), honestly I haven’t seen the sequel advertised any differently than the original game was
My bad, you're right, it wasn't specifically mentioned. Considering how well liked Supergiant are by the gaming media though, it wouldn't surprise me.

In the Marxist way, "they" is everyone else not in their camp. The matter is very black and white. These people are tourists who hate videogames, its culture and lifelong fans and want a "population replacement" as every communist in the history of mankind. They are saying that out loud, and it's on us to start taking their words for their true meaning instead of making up excuses and Flanders-like thinking.

The fact that this seems to be the first association that pops up in some of the minds of these people speaks volumes about them. Obviously, it should be completely prohibited to have traditionally good looking and attractive characters now. That stuff is "literally" x-rated.

These people need a reality check.

The problem is that it's the same tactic seen by people in every community. Even this thread almost certainly has it, let alone the rest of the site. It's particularly common in any discussion remotely political because it goes hand in hand with modern divisive ways making things a binary sort of extremes and forgetting that grey areas exist.

It's not impossible that she is referring to actual tweets or messages, but without proof you have nothing to go on so it just looks like (and could be) made up ramblings. But even if she is referring to things people actually said, it misrepresents everyone by the worse examples. I wish there was a lot less of it. Imagine we were all made out to be as angry and opinionated as the more angry members of GAF. I say imagine - we often are.

Another common one I see all over the place is "They say they want this, but when it happens they say they want this, they're always moaning" as if it's the same "they" saying both things and not different people on the other side of any given fence.

It doesn't make it any better when she does it of course, but it's certainly not limited to her.

True enough. I have noticed this in other contexts, as well - even within the tweet I originally replied about. What I'm finding, though, is commonalities in this particular stereotype and it's not limited to just one person saying it. The unhygienic, basement-dwelling, virgin, etc. gamer has been used over and over again since this started. It's tiresome and unsupported by reality. And although I don't find such people worth listening to, it's worrisome that devs and publishers may be (or even be the ones holding those views). I've seen how this works in other instances - paint the opponents a certain way, instill doubt, shut them down, etc. I hope it doesn't work this time.

Same. Optimally, there would be none of it.

It's definitely ad hominem at its most obvious. Pretend everyone is the South Park WOW player with an anger problem so their opposing view doesn't matter.

That's such a great way to put it. I've noticed this too. When a person sums up a 'gamer' in the way we've seen a lot of lately (extremely derogatory way), it shows someone who has no clue about the vast community of people who play and love games. It's started to really stand out to me. I think it's because the examples of this mythical gamer are becoming more and more detailed. Along with the assorted 'I hate gamers' declarations too.

I mean Supergiant has been pretty progressive through all their games but they still make great games

basically they’re doing it ‘right’ instead of forcing it down our throats to the detriment of the game

Hephaestus? it fits the myths though, I mean in one he was thrown from Mount Olympus as an infant by Hela because he was disabled (in other myths he became disabled because she tossed him off for other reasons)

In mythology, he was often portrayed as walking lame, requiring the use of a crutch. A wheelchair would be in the way for his smithing arts and craftsmenship.
