Cerny left STI halfway into the development of Sonic 2 because he got feed up with his antics. Despite you know, setting up STI for him to begin with.
Where did you hear this? I have been curious about this for a while. I have heard that Cerny left to join Crystal Dynamics.

I really wish ya'll did not post fake news about Japan from bad sites with writers that don't speak a word of Japanese.

Thegamer's article (and any article that comes to a similar conclusion, since there are several) is false reporting from the usual unprofessional websites that use google translate to misleadingly publish clickbaity news from Japan without any verification or without asking someone who actually reads Japanese. 🤔

Naka-san was not sentenced yet. Over 2 years in prison is the prosecutor's demand and it may not happen as today was simply the hearing in which the prosecutor and the defense made their requests, with the defense claiming lessened responsibility for Naka-san because he allegedly was sent the information by mistake and didn't intentionally seek it. They may get it or not, but Naka-san isn't facing jail time just yet.

The actual verdict is coming on July 7, and that's when we'll know what he'll get.

Its because The Gamer jumped the gun.

They didn't simply jump the gun. They used google translate because they're unprofessional pieces of crap.

I can speak/read Japanese but cannot be bothered to look it up... just wondering has he been in jail or "detention" this whole time? I know that Japan likes to basically keep people locked up almost indefinitely before they even get to court in order to break their will and get them to confess (hostage justice, and no not just talking about Carlos Ghosn, happens to a lot of people).

I've heard stories of people in Japan (foreign and Japanese) being locked up for almost a month and even their family only finding out when police decides to call the person's work to tell them they've been arrested, all for very minor things (and often when the person didn't even do it and was wrongly accused).

Is that the term for dudes who want to have sex with Sonic? Or for dudes who like to dress as sonic and have sex with other dudes? Never know with this fanbase.
I'm no specialist but the dudes who dress like Sonic or any anthropomorphized animal are called "furfags" or simply "furries".

Sonicfags are a quite different breed. They're just pretty chill guys, who like leather and sunglasses at night. They are friendly and always the life of the party but you really don't want to mess with them as they can unleash a world of pain upon you in the blink of an eye, as shown by this peach of a sonicfag below :

I haven't heard any news about his current status, but what I know of the Japanese legal system probably indicates he has not spent a lot of time in detention.

You're right that Japan can detain you for 28 days while they're deciding to indict you or not (which happens to a lot of foreigners, especially for drug-related stuff), but indiction has been decided a long time ago, so he probably was sent home considering it's an economic crime. I actually don't expect him to go to jail for this, but I may be wrong. Depends on how lenient the court feels.

Honestly, I hope not. Insider trading isn't exactly a cardinal sin and he has not really damaged anyone personally (he basically stole from the system and if it's true that he did not actively seek the info his legal responsibility is a bit mitigated). His career is 99% done, and he'll likely have to pay a very big fine. That's commensurate punishment in my eyes.

I've seen people mocking him and cheering for him to be jailed because they hate him due to Balan, but he's not exactly the only one who profits with insider info he has no right to. Morally speaking, what he did isn't exactly that much worse than your usual Jason Schreier, and leakers actively damage other people (developers), so I'm not exactly keen on the idea of throwing someone in Japanese jail (which sucks) for years because he made some money out of insider info without really damaging anyone besides themselves.

Was yuji actually the creator or was he the guy who made the sprite for the first game?

In either case he has lost his status years ago but now going back to all the older games Sonic or otherwise with his name on it will be tougher for fans.

Cores, shaders and BIOS oh my!
Rodea the Sky Soldier is a legit game and deserves to be part of Yuji Naka's pre-downfall legacy. It's not flat out AMAZING or without issues but it's fun & inventive in a Saturn/Dreamcast way. A sequel could have been amazing (or if they spent the years developing the WiiU & 3DS versions on improving this, maybe adding optional nunchuck compatibility for additional controls, camera controls in particular, improved the camera in general and I dunno, maybe remake the whole thing visually for WiiU rather than make a wholly different game that ended up not being good at all).

Anyway, sucks to be Yuji Naka, politicians and other VIP type bastards do this kind of shit all the time with conflicts of interest out the wazoo in all kinds of dealings involving tons of (other people's) money and nothing happens in most other countries, at most maybe someone quits at some point.

Apparently, you can only use Battle.net on one computer at a time.

Come on. Steam lets you use more than one machine.

Oh come on! I know Sonic is bad, but two and a half years in prison for making it? That seems a bit much.

There's people who are genuinely hoping he gets jail time because he made a mediocre game. That's where we are right now.

And no, I don't believe for a second they care about his insider trading crime. That kind of people doesn't even know what insider trading is. 🤔

I think it might be for people who want to be eaten by Sonic, live in his now giant belly for a year, then get shat out to be pegged by Amy.

The fine assuming he can't get out of paying it will surely make him bankrupt?

Also not trying to condone him for breaking the law, but considering the huge amount of insider trading that goes on at the top level every single day, there is a part of me that's glad to see he won't have to serve time behind bars. There are plenty of worse crooks (including politicians, boardrooms, brokers, market makers etc...) that exploit and abuse the financial markets/system that deserve it. They make a fortune insider trading, manipulate stock market prices, cut deals for their friends and family. Yet the financial regulators turn a blind eye.

Where did you hear this? I have been curious about this for a while. I have heard that Cerny left to join Crystal Dynamics.

There's a story that Cerny said something to Naka during the development of Sonic 3 and Naka dived over a cubicle wall and tried to choke out Cerny.
