Honestly lack of voice tends to be better for horror games as you can just pretend, imagine or make up your own voices for the characters. It's a day 1 for me because it's something fresh. Very few games have you playing as the "monster" per say. Lends to the atmosphere. Might be why I like Crow Country and Signalis a lot. It's very much show and don't tell.

But hey I was playing Monster Hunter Portable(oh boy claw grip) and a plethora of Musou games with jank controls and still have a great time. And don't get me started on how wonderful it still is to play Jet Force Gemini N64. Definitely a learning curve there. But still some of my favorite games.

The setting and concept is the main draw here and it's intriguing.
I generally miss when we had more silent protags. They are a far better vehicle for immersion imo instead of someone constantly talking your ear off. It more than often comes off really unnatural in a distracting way. Thought bubbles/textboxes can be sufficient. It stimulates your imagination. Plus characters like these give you room to think and contemplate. Especially, many modern AAA developers seem to believe we're incapable of thinking/solving for ourselves.

I dunno who pushed the idea that all main characters need be voiced for the most part. It set a somewhat detrimental precedent.

Slitterhead is a very playable game on the Steam Deck, and it looks especially good on the OLED screen, but I encountered a couple of hiccups in my playthrough. Performance can be a mixed bag, depending on the area. A lot of them can hit upwards of 50-60 FPS, but in others, it will drop heavily down to around 38-42. Most of these heavier areas did stay above 40 on low settings, not including some cutscenes that went to 36-37, so my recommended settings mean setting this to a 40 FPS cap with low-quality settings.
Luckily, the low settings didn’t hurt the visual quality too much. It’s much less noticeable on the smaller screen, but compared to Medium and High quality presets, the only option we can change for graphical settings, it still holds up. I didn’t notice any pop-in or low-quality textures and I only saw a slight amount of blur in some scenarios.

While I love the smoothness of 40 FPS, especially in fights, there are some instances where it could drop. Here, I recommend playing at 30 FPS while keeping settings low for the most stable experience. It is still very playable, and will save a little battery, but it definitely doesn't feel as fluid.

See for yourself if you can, I'm really a bit embarrassed just reading some of you decided the game is shit because some reviewers didn't like it. It's shit only when you find out from your experience. I'm intrigued actually by it being weird and unique and not like something I already played.

If you don’t take the time to inform yourself before spending money and time on a product, why would you even visit a review thread in the first place?

Do you buy literally everything, in any category, just to try it and know for sure?
 
The repetition, time loop and apparently bad story make this a pass for me.
I like a lot of weird games with hack slash kinda combat. I'd recommend Eternights.

I'm informed so far as following the previews and reading hands-ons impressions. I've actually followed its development since it was announced, so I already know whether it appeals to me or not from a game design perspective. In terms of participating in this thread, the reviews still contain relevant information not discussed in the previews I've already read.

Just because a game gets a 10/10 doesn't inherently mean I'll enjoy it, similarly if it gets a 4/10 doesn't mean I'll hate it. I won't allow a score to dictate my purchasing habits. That's what idiots do.

It’s a 7 game. Perfect. I’ve been replaying Shadows of the Damned on the switch and it’s one of my most enjoyable experiences of the year. I have more and more fun with these out there games than all the other crap.

There's nothing wrong with it if you enjoy it. I actually had a lot of fun with Devils Third on Wii U, and loft a sensible chuckle in the general direction of those that simply bought the review scores.

Is there horror or slitting in Eternights? 😊 the last weird action game I played was Soulstice and that game sucked. The controls are way too floaty and weapon damage felt like hitting air. I uninstalled it immediately.

This is something that should have been offered on all the game services for October before Halloween.
It's always surreal to see people finally bring up subscriptions and acknowledge that they help new IP and mid-tier AA games thrive. Guess the buy to pay model is a bit broken for certain types of games.

Cancelling my pre-order. I avoided a lot about this game so the reviews are the first chance I got to see major gameplay segments and it looks super dull and generic. May get it down the road on a major sale.

Combat is like doing a dodge at the right time slows down time, you smack to build up a meter to pick the right shield break special move so you can do real damage. Not sure id call it horror.

gonna watch a lets play to check yamaoka soundtrack and general vibe. no idea what toyama was thinking trying to gamble on an action take with no budget in 2024

I'll never understand the mentality of going into review threads and then screaming that they don't matter because it's not what you wanted them to be.
Toyama already fooled everyone with the first SIREN 21 years ago, but due to it coming from a big publisher no one was afraid to tell him that it was genuinely bad, and thank god they did because SIREN 2 was a massive improvement and a great game.

Think I'll try it either way. I thought it comes out nov 5th too, and now saw it's the 8th. Dang.

It has been tagged as PS5 Pro Enhanced, so hopefully we will soon learn the details of these enhancements.

Looking at some review and game play videos and yeah .. this looks like a mid 6 kind of game, and not in the 'charming' Deadly Premonition' kind of way.

Wouldn't even consider playing this without rental services.

It's jank without anything elevating it beyond that status except "Toyama did this".

It's honestly very telling that they never were able to communicate the top-line story or gameplay loop on it. Him coming out almost apologizing for the game is also explained now.

I’m hoping there’s more to it than what meets the eye because on the surface level it looks absolutely like a 3/10 turd Ferguson joint.

A 34/40 from Famitsu says there’s some disconnect among the few who played it already. Amazon should hopefully arrive with my copy by Monday.

Shouldn't that be the point of playing games?

Trying out unique games brings me back to simpler times in the PS1 era where games felt experimental instead of safe.

If people want safe, play Sony's God of War: Rangarok.

I remember when game like Rule of Rose got bunch of terrible reviews but I personally find it very unique experience.

Just remember you will missing out some truly unique expriance if only pay attention to “scores”.

I love my kat with my soul.

I love everything about the games except the missions. You have these amazing gravity powers and fantastic controls to utilize them but the game has you use them for the most mundane, unexciting missions that have been done a million times.
