Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice | OT | Borne of Souls

Game is hard. ;b
Yeah I feel like enemies needs some balancing. All doing same damage apart from bosses isn’t fair. But what I figured out is you being aggressive in this game is better than being defensive and cautious. Not like SoulsBorne

Fuck, all the whining in here makes me sick.
I was hoping for people hyping each other, but instead every second post is about how the game is somehow not that persons cup of tea.

The game is awesome, shit hard, but close enough to Souls to feel at home.

Gameplay is brilliant. You feel so agile compared to Souls and BB.
Graphics are quite nice, obviously no marvel, but the art direction is awesome.
Atmosphere and Setting are all i wanted from this Feudal Japan type world.
Some of the Bosses are shit hard, and I have many deaths, but learning their weaknesses, getting better generally and beating them eventually feels so rewarding.

Cant wait to play some more later!

I'm not getting the bad graphics complaints. Granted, I'm playing on PC maxed but does it look that bad on console? It looks very pretty on PC, not earth shattering but it's by no means unpolished or bad looking.

YES!! i finally got past that guy who was pushing my shit back in.

i just
found the old woman who gave me a bell. now i'm in a memory fighting through an estate.
starting to get the feel of the game.

i'm on PC too. everything maxed out at 1440p. it's not the best looking game but looks so much better than any souls game or bloodborne. haven't seen it on console but i don't imagine it would look bad.

these games aren't about graphics anyway.

Agreed. My only complaint about the graphics is not being able to get above 60fps. I want my 144fps!

lmao that's your own fault. nothing to do with the game. maybe do some research on a game before you buy it?

i'm not a huge fan of the japanese samurai thing. actually i totally avoided Nioh because of it. if Sekiro wasn't made by From Software I probably wouldn't even have bought it.

I once did this when I was a kid with the original metroid prime. I purchased the game again when I was a little older and wanted to slap my past self. The environments/setting in this game is probably going to be better than anything else releasing this year but whatever floats your boat

You could've watched a trailer or googled a picture of the game and saved yourself some trouble, especially if you're picky about "settings" in video games.

Or i could buy game and sell it if i don't like it like i did.

I bought it because it was From game thinking maybe gameplay itself will hold me but nope
Gameplay itself is fun but i can't be bothered to watch any of those cutscenes and story itself which means there is nothing outside of gameplay and that is not enough for me.

I think the game is much harder than any Souls game so far. I mean that Oger one shots you if you are not at full health (Like 80 percent). In Souls you could at least take a few hits. Well, maybe I'm missing something, but I'm not exactly a beginner.

Keep up the good work, love your videos man. I am graciously skipping these though as I’m determined to go as far as I can blind...... until I end up breaking a controller. But seriously want to try and complete without a guide if possible, never done that with a From game before.

Thanks so much!

Do the environments ever change like the Souls games?, its like every area looks the same. I guress thats why the game is quite small in todays terms at 14gb.

Is it better to upgrade your vitality or attack power with prayer beads. I feel like my vitality is so low that upgrading it feels like a necessity.

Whelp, at least I'm not the only one struggling, I thought my old age was finally catching up to me.
I cannot seem to get the timing for parries/dodges in these early mini-boss encounters, thank god they put checkpoints very close to them. It's starting to get pretty frustrating though, Solaire where are you when I need you ..

great, they got typical overrated, overused voice actors for this game. i was expecting fresh talent or uk actors.

I thought you can only upgrade vitality with prayer beads and you need memories for attack power.

Minibosses in souls would pretty much one shot you too.

You use different things to upgrade your attack power and your vitality/posture.

Don't just tap LB, hold it a bit, even if you miss the deflection at least you'll block. There's a few enemies later on that will require you to have very precise timings though.

yeah, you're right. I didn't realize that until I defeated the horse boss.

Funny enough that stupid Ogre took me like 30+ attempt to beat and the next 2 bosses I did in less than 3 attempts each.

Everything in the game is great apart from the rubbish unbalanced enemies. Game needs lots of patience so don’t let it beat you!

Have decided to refund. Enjoying Division 2 too much at the moment.

I'll pick it up again, in a few months, when it's a little cheaper. It's cool, but the combat isn't grabbing me. The sword feels a little weightless. Jumping feels off too.

I haven't played much souls, but isn't it like all of them? Enemies can one or two hit you, you need a ton of patience...

The negativity in this thread is amazing. I think I'll avoid this place, at least until I'm finished with the game.

Yes you need patience you need planning. This is a From game after all.

I’m really enjoying it. it’s got a unique feeling, with almost open world level design. Artwork is wonderful and the areas are all pretty cool. Feel like a lot of people are just stuck in the opening area. Hirata Estates is pretty rad, w the swimmable river and the bamboo forests

I found people complaining about negativity rather funny. Whats the problem with people saying they don't enjoy the game?

Even in a spoiler thread, having an ending out there the day after release is f*cking insane.

I know some of you are badass Shinobi's, but please don't spoil too much. Or at least use spoiler tags.

I suck at this game, i like it , but i'm terrible at the timing. Like i run through the fodder enemies but the bigger samurais that i face i'm just not at all consistent.

I feel like if i beat one it's because i'm lucky not because i have a strategy going in. I'm a tiny bit frustrated because i feel like im not being patient enough in these fights, i keep having dark souls on the mind where i can just run through people. But that isn't working out for me at all.

via steam charts:

DS2: 80k peak
DS3: 129k peak
S: 124k peak

This doesn't sound like much of a difference but DS3 is older game and since then there should be new people joining From train much like DS3 peak was much higher than DS2 peak. Alas it is saturday so it can still break From record. Either way it is pretty safe to say that some people skipped it.

Hopefuly they will do next different setting. I and probably some people can't deal with japanese and other asian historical settings. What is more interesting is that apparently Japanese crowd also didn't bought it like mad despite japanese setting.

Hard to say this is about setting or lack of stats and rpg elements making it more Ninja Gaiden/DMC than Dark Souls.

Got to the Estate boss.
So far the game is pretty good. I don't know if it's entertaining, as it's generally quite tense and can be frustrating at time. In comparison other similar games let you do flashy things that look fun, on top of being quite difficult (eg. NiOh and DMC).

I really expected the combat system to be deeper than bloodborne, but the katana has such a limited moveset. NiOh was much more interesting in this regard.

The verticality is pretty nice, and I like the stealth elements. There is a lot of retrying and pattern learning. Sometimes there boss will have a "sorry you gonna die instantly" move, and that is a frustrating reason to restart. Having this game be "50 hours" where most of it is slowly learning the boss's instakill moves is rather lame.

Hopefully it gets more interesting as you get more skills. I still think FROM stuck too closely to the souls formula and feel rather than making a unique character action game. I can see many people struggling with this game since it's not possible to really farm and outlevel the boss, you really do have to 'git gud" (though you can farm money and skill points).

Negativity? People don’t get to express their frustration? It’s a FromSoftware game so what do you expect exactly? Lol

Only played dark souls 3 before this. Stopped at twins after 30 million attempts. I really enjoy this though. Nothing too hard just yet except spear dudes.. hope I finish this one!

You will finish this one don’t give up! Apart from bosses, spear and axe fellas it’s all good. Timing is a big key in this game. Also don’t forget you can run, jump and evade.

i think we can all agree now. its tougher than any souls game

You simply can't be passive in here. Bloodborne had that to an extent but dodging toward attacks in this game is actually rewarding. Also people saying that the exploration and whatnot are easy are clearly not at the castle yet. Game stops holding your hand after you beat Gyoubu and Lady butterfly, until then you re still in the tutorial

played a bit more but still confused on some things:

1. am i right in thinking that i need prayer beads to level up my vitality and memories for attack while at the rest points?

2. what's the point in the level bar? i'm at lvl 1 but each time i die it loses progress?

3. what's this rot stuff? i kept dying and i got a lecture about dragonrot which affects my unseen aid. meaning that i get less of it. i feel like the game is punishing me for dying too much. is it just a story thing or a gameplay mechanic?

4. how on earth do i tell the difference between an enemy ready to sweep attack or thrust? i know when the red kanji (?) comes up it's a warning but other than that i have no idea whether to jump or dodge.

yeah i get people not liking a game but "this setting is horrible" is like, we knew about the setting the day the game was announced, why are you even here? why would you buy a game set in a location that you hated? lol at "telling the postman to return it." i guess in that case someone went out of their way to order a physical box for a game they have no desire to play? ok sure.

this is for leveling up your skill points. you lose experience & money every time you die. this is why resting idols are so important. if you are exploring a level and you die, if you resurrect and run back to the idol, you can save that stuff from getting lost.

dragonrot seems like a story thing and not terribly punishing. unseen aide only seems like it determines how much you lose upon death. none of these affect your ability to explore & combat.

are the generals those big dudes with long swords?

i can deal with the normal enemies no problem but those big guys fuck me up.

Seeing the responses in here is pretty fascinating. What'll be doubly fascinating is seeing how they measure up a few months down the line, when the collective git-guddening has happened and community knowledge of the game has crystallized into various strats and guides.

Hmmm looks like i am not the only one skipping it.

Who cares? You bounced off, no need to attempt to justify that in a fit of confirmation bias.

ok i'm still confused. i think you could only level up vitality/attack? is the bar for that? if so then what are the beads/memories for?

i don't get what you mean about resurrecting. if i do that and run away back to an idol ... it does what? saves my money/progress wouldn't i just lose it anyway if i die again when i go back to the fight?

Unseen Aid is the chance that you won't lose anything when you die. It's the percentage chance that you basically get a "get out of jail free" card when you die instead of losing half your money/XP

I think, anyway

Could be wrong

Facts are not confirmation bias. There are less people playing it on PC than DS3 right now.
Also i didn't post it to "confirm my bias" but to show interesting tidbit of information which was pretty surprising to me since i thought that i am outlier from group.

And since you allude to it, you don't have right to say that people should only talk positively about game they playing/played or tried to play. Didn't even said game was bad to begin with. Sekiro probably is fine game enjoy it.

Or you could just do what I said and not waste your time and money.

You do you though.

And ?

Because it is FROM game. I am willing to bet that 50% of people who played Bloodborne never even read one lovercraftian book and most of them would find lovercraftian horror stupid if they would get into that with some mediacore book, many of those people became fan of this style of horror.

Similar story here. I don't particularly like Sengoku but i like japanese mythos and i loved Okami. Thought maybe this will be for me like Bloodborne was for new lovercraftian fans. It didn't work though for me, much like Nioh

You're surprised the 3rd entry in a highly acclaimed series had a few thousand more players at it's peak than a new IP?

And what do you mean "right now"? You listed numbers for all-time peak players, not current players. Dark Souls 2 has 2,000 people playing it right now, Dark Souls 3 has 12,000 and Sekiro has 125,000.

The RPG-ness present in DS games and BB could be a reason why there are still more people playing DS on Steam. Games with leveling/loot tend to have longer legs.

I knew what Sekrio was going on, so I am not disappointed at all. Do I wish it had a little bit of a loot aspect, and a little bit more of a traditional leveling aspect? Sure, but I knew it didn't have those things.

This is still the best game I have played so far this year.

I got some blood from the blind granny NPC that hangs around her son in her house.

Make sure you use it at the sculptors idol, I used it in my inventory and it looks like it wasted it.
