Wow that's pretty big news. Mortal Kombat has fallen off hard.

I didn't buy MK1 because the character designs were trash and it doesn't have the MK vibe I love. I'll stick with the classics that don't have bloated modes locked behind online connectivity.
Same. Plus, I knew they'd eventually release the Ultimate version with all the expansions and DLC for a fraction of the price.

-They have a 30yr history of MK games they could tap into for remakes or remasters
-No kollection of the 1st 4 arcade MK's in 2024 is just criminal
-Get Dominic Ciancolo or whatever the fuck his name is off of story and get John Vogel back in there
-Make MK games have only MK characters or at the most one guest character. Too much non MK trash in the recent two MK games
-Too much loved MK stuff missing....where were stage fatalities, the Krypt, Konquest mode, etc....????

I could go on and on......longtime MK fans just havent been the priority.

Yes they are gay and they spent about 2 minutes on kung jin being gay in MKX, they handled that the best way possible if they were going to do it at all. He was a new character, he was separated from his family and they didn't even come out and call him gay they just said it without saying it and that was it, no more focus on it. MK has a ton of characters, we know Johnny and Sonya are a thing, Liu Kang and Kitana and Shao Khan and Sindel, Takeda and Jacqui etc and they get way more couple time than was spent on Kung Jin talking to his uncle lol.

I do wonder why so many game devs are so obsessed with lesbian relationships but that's for another time lol.

I grew up playing and loving MK. MK2 was my favorite arcade game, and I even bought an Ultimate MK3 arcade machine back in the day for my den. I stopped playing around the Gamecube era as I didn't like the switch to 3d fighting. I should have saw the writing on the wall back then as I didn't like that one character that made fart and puke attacks and thought it was getting stupid.

I recently tried MK11 and then MK1 and I was shocked by how shit they are. WTF is this shit? This isn't MK anymore. It's a micro transaction riddled shell of its former self. Picking styles of combat, tag team bullshit, fatalities that are now so ridiculous that they are just annoying to sit through, a story so stupid it's not worth investing in, mini-games, turning favorite characters into troons and gays, I mean wtf.

Warner Brothers or Netherrealm, who's to blame for this? It's a travesty.
I'm exactly the same, tried MK4 at the arcades and it just felt janky and the change to 3d graphics caused the game to lose a lot of its character and atmosphere.

I haven't touched a 3D MK since, however I feel that the graphics are so good now, a remake of MK2 using this engine with a tweak to the original gameplay, would be nice.

Everybody complaining about predatory microtransactions but they exist precisely because 70 dollars entry fee is too low to keep up with US salaries when you're talking about a game targeted towards a specific niche (fighting games fans). So you end up with live service, overly priced goods that are then rejected by that niche precisely because of that.

(Another reason why single-player games do better in countries where average developer salary is lower).

That said, they should have stuck by a long term strategy. Running off because of one setback isn't the solution and is akin to handicapping the long term financial viability of a franchise. If it wants to be the Fortnite of fighting games, it should have kept on updating it with more and more content until it was there and that's not happening if you ditch everything at the first bad sign.

Warner has had long term flops like suicide squad, why couldn't they risk this long term where the core product is fun?

Oh no, they went woke and their game didn't sell, who would have thought? These were some of the most beloved characters to long time fans, how on earth did they think it would go well? SMH

Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.

These games quickly become tedious and not fun to play online. Compared to tekken and street fighter which I still throw up on the screen from time to time.

The newest entry also had some of the shittiest DLC additions ever, and MK fatigue set in prior to its release.

I would love a new injustice but I also think they’re overdue for something new.

It’s also been stated a million times but they need to stop with this claymation ass animations and get with the times to make it all look fluid. It looks whack.

I cry about Xbox and hate PlayStation.
i like bi han in this game, other than that, not really into the kameo, and alot of the character design were atrocious.
Sektor and Cyrax design is a joke.

I didn’t like MK11 or MK1. Owned both, but barely played them. The combat isn’t fun. It was amazing with 9 and XL. I put like 100 hours into XL.

The story was better in 9/10. Then it all began to suck. I also grew up with MK1-4 in the arcades and then the console ports. It’s not like I stopped being a fan. It just isn’t something I want to play. I’d rather play Tekken or Capcom fighting games. The combos in MK aren’t fun anymore. Maybe NRS will make a better game.

I didn’t bother with the big story expansion because that first season of characters sucked. Fighting game season passes suck, but that’s the way this industry gets money. Worst part is paying for multiple season passes. If the first season sucks then they can find someone else to buy it.

I bought the DLC at full price to show support, but I can see why others would say its too expensive. I wasn't particularly hyped for more guest characters, and the legacy characters were okay at best. Overall, I like the game and think the gameplay is solid, and the way they reinvented some characters (ex. Kenshi) was excellent. That said, the overall roster is one of more boring rosters in general, and the art style is boring.

In terms of the roster, they've given attention to some of the B-tier legacy characters, like Ashrah, Reiko, Tanya, Li Mei, and so forth (kind of like they did with Injustice 2). Problem is, this has come at the expense of excluding several legacy characters. Also, there's not one entirely new non-guest character, which is bizarre.

Finally, in terms of art style, every character has some kind of robe or robe variant, basically. Too much similarity across the board with only a few characters that actually look unique. Cage looks the most unique and he happens to be wearing button-ups as his default, lol. Its not even that wearing button-ups is special or anything, its just that almost every other character is wearing the same type of robe. Some of the alt skins have remedied this issue, but even then a lot of the alt skins are just color variants or also robe-looking attires.

Overall, I'm sad to see support ending. Its not my favorite MK but it has its high points.
