Push Square, "Some Marvel's Spider-Man 2 PS5 Fans Are Furious It's Not Getting DLC"

ArtHands

Thinks buying more servers can fix a bad patch

There are some fans of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 who are absolutely irate the game is not getting any DLC expansions. Insomniac Games never explicitly announced any additional content for the game, but without getting into the weeds of stolen information, the big hack that impacted the developer did mention plans for post-release support. Those plans have obviously changed, as it’s since announced it’s moving on from the game.

We’ve seen some claims on social media that the sequel feels unfinished as a result, as there are plot threads teed up which will now no longer be resolved until the inevitable Marvel’s Spider-Man 3 – or a Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales-style spin-off, like the oft-touted Marvel’s Spider-Man: Venom.

To be honest, the reaction has surprised us somewhat. While the original Marvel’s Spider-Man did receive post-release DLC as part of the trilogy of City That Never Sleeps episodes, we didn’t rate them particularly highly here at Push Square, as we felt they did very little to meaningfully advance the story or established gameplay formula.

While we felt the core Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 experience was familiar, we never felt short-changed by the experience, and rated it a sturdy 8/10 as a result. Personally, with resources limited and development cycles bloated, we’d much rather Insomniac Games focused its attention on Marvel’s Wolverine and whatever’s next for Spider-Man et al.

Maybe when I turn on the news tomorrow, the meteorologist will report that some people are irate because it is raining outside.

Considering how highly Sony thinks of this IP, they should be conscious that they lost a part of the fan base with 2. Throw the people who were able to stomach the BS a bone for goodness sake. You’re going to end up with a jaded audience for the SM3 reveal. A super solid DLC with some amazing set pieces could turn that around fairly easily. The SM2 engine is capable of producing some incredible scenes. Just throw together a 6 hour fan service romp with killer forced ToD and ride off into the sunset.

I'm usually always against DLC. Not because I don't like it, but I'd rather studios use those resources to put out their next game quicker or with more content. Insomniac has been juggling too many projects simultaneously this generation

I was waiting to pick it up when the inevitable Game of the Year edition came out and on sale at that. Maybe there will be a big sale this holiday. If not, I can wait.

They dlc team are working on the venom game so expected . I’m surprised they have not revealed the venom game, so much of it was leaked but still nothing, have they cancelled it?

They’ll get over it, they’re just whiny. Not every game needs DLC. It’s hardly a news story headline.

I'm surprised there isn't any DLC considering that one snafu update they made where everyone had access to the debug menu a bit. The debug menu indicated Blue Beetle DLC.

Spider-Man 2 was alright. Could definitely use a Venom or Silk games that moves the narrative a little forward and teases the 3rd game. Now, is Wolverine in the same universe? I know they doing a Xmen game, but I wonder if we can expect Spidey to make a cameo in those games. It could expand the universe quite a bit, and maybe have Spiderman visit something other than New York. Also, hoping they do Gwen in part 3.

Those tweets sound like AI bots. DLCs most of the time are not very good because they're either cut content or side content that can't impact the main story too much. It's also a waste of time when the studio should be working on the next game.

Also, the comments about the game being a Miles spinoff makes no sense. There was literally already a Miles spinoff game. Plus Spidey 2 featured Peter prominently and wrapped up his storyline with a bow.

I don't know what people were expecting from Insomniac but at some point people started treating them like they were Santa Monica and Naughty Dog calibre

They have never been that

They will pump out good to great games without ever being genuine GOTY calibre devs on a 5 year development timeline

Let's not forget they also got hacked and probably has caused a lot of plans to be scrapped

If any such real people exist and are truly angry, tell them that vivftp wants them to go fuck themselves with a rusty pitchfork

How much damage is done by these media, which give echo to the four “fans” who say the first nonsense that comes to mind.

Let Insomniac make Wolverine in peace, they have had enough problems to put up with.
