Media Create Sales: Week 6, 2015 (Feb 02 - Feb 08)

Poor Vita. Was that Sony store LE not this week?

It's going to be a rough year without a price cut. It's going to be a rough year with a price cut I suppose.

I really wonder how long the Vita's lifespan will be. In theory there's nothing to stop it from coasting on low budget otaku games for another 5 years, but at that price with that memory card, no first party life support, and cell phones surpassing its technology, I have to wonder when the other shoe will drop.

(I say this as a fan, I've been playing mine nonstop for the last 2 days thanks to the SNK sale.)

Ubisoft is publishing Lords of The Fallen in Japan?amusing, even I didn't know that. I just started playing that one too

Yeh, after Kenka 6 underperformed I was a bit afraid for these smaller (at least in my head) titles. At least it's doing well compared to expectations.

I think the biggest error made was switching the brand from the PS family to the Nintendo one
maybe some fanbase didn't want to buy a 3DS / didn't own, so the sales were a step behind since the last chapter
but at least the first shipment will be sold

yesterday I saw an used KB6 at Book-Off and the price was quite high, at least we are not in a situation like Senran Kagura 2, I perfectly remember a used copy at 1/3 of the retail price after 3 or 4 weeks...

Fortunately Capcom didn't follow this mentality.

@LEVEL5_times: 明日2/14（土）発売の「月刊コロコロコミック」（小学館）にて『妖怪ウォッチ2 真打』の紹介記事が掲載されます！ぜひ、ご覧ください！

Why do I always read 2 as 3?!

I think that's the biggest problem at this point, I think they've pretty much exhausted the markets they're targeting at this point.

Anime-gaming fans; the otaku market and gamers who want hunting-games-that-aren't-Monster-Hunter are all really well served for by Vita at this point. Which is fine from a software PoV - I'd imagine it'll keep selling pretty well. But there's nothing coming that's going to expand the userbase beyond this.

Sony could really do with locking down bigger franchises with historical ties to PlayStation in hopes of expanding things, but it kinda appears like they're beyond caring about Vita at this point.

Hence why I don't think a price cut would do much even if it did come.

I might be giving Spike Chunsoft too much credit here but Kenka Bancho 6 would have made more sense being 3DS only if more PSP franchises migrated to the 3DS. In hindsight, multiplatform would have been better.

I think SaGa is the only game announced for Vita right now that has the potential to expand the userbase. I don't think the classic JRPG audience has really been served on Vita yet and the SaGa series has been popular in the past.

I think a price cut of at least 20% would be somewhat effective for both Vita and Wii U. They have mostly exhausted their potential fanbase as-is, but their libraries are not devoid of good games, so that many people who would not buy the systems only for a handful of games could reconsider if they were considerably cheaper.

It doesn't mean that any of those systems would suddenly change their fortunes, but the extra-sales could have a positive impact in terms of support, extending their active lifespan a bit and generating more profit through software sales.

I guess its still a bit too early to say, its still about 1.5 months until release. The serie was never a huge seller to begin with, but anything less than ~100k would probably be disappointing i think. If i remember correctly, someone speculated that the serie was "dead" after seeing Senran Kagura 2's sales. If the same happends with Estival Versus, maybe thats the case.
Oh, 1.5 months?
It's definitely way too early; I thought it was the end of this month.

Yes, it is meaningless. It's not supposed to be a scientific study, with background research and future discussion.

You do if you think it's fun, you pay attention if you're curious about other people's guesses. That is its entire purpose.

I'll leave only the hardware, which is the only thing we know is available for sale in 2015. Less work for me. =P
Aw that's too bad. Just hardware predictions can be a bit boring.
But I agree that putting unannounced games in the prediction league is a bad idea

So is Senran Kagura really dead?
I know it's still not out yet, but it doesn't sound like Estival Versus is gonna make any waves.

Isn't there a new cartoon coming up too?

There's more marketing than for SK2 (that didn't have much compared to Shinovi Versus on Vita), but the release date choice (Bloodborne/One Piece) and putting the game on 2 platforms with 4 different editions seems to be a really bad idea.
I really like this series, but it's really mismanaged when they want to release a new "big" game. That's a shame.

Said it in another thread already, but I'm sure one of those two versions will do like the 3DS version. No way the fanbase will split to buy both versions (apart from collectors, and even then, the collector edition of the 3DS game is extremely cheap now), and I don't think the best case scenario for both versions combined will go over 125k.

Yeah, if it's that far out, it's definitely not right to call for doom and gloom.
I was just working under the impression that it was a week or 2 away.

Even if Bloodborne and Pirate Warriors are coming out that day, the type of audience for Senran Kagura games would not really be deterred by those games.
It will definitely not help that they're all on the same day, but I feel that it'd still be relatively close to what it could have done otherwise.

Yeah, it shall be interesting to see if any of those games will be noticeably affected by releasing at the same time. It can of course be other factors as well if some games should see less sales than their predecessors.

I think many games will underperform. The industry is not so healthy to absorb such a number of mid-sized titles almost at the same time. Especially considering that other mid-sized titles will be released around March 26th, especially for Vita (Digimon 03/12, SAO and SK 03/26, Super Robot Wars 04/02).

No surprise about that. Probably doesn't help it doesn't look like much of an incremental change compared to past musou expansion packs.

[PSV] Ukiyo no Shishi <ADV> (Spike Chunsoft) - 50% Wished that both versions had released at the same time

Yeah, pretty weird they didn't release them at the same time. Wonder if it'll sell more than the PS3 version though.

Mainly the release date choice, and the fact that their marketing strategy (apart from the obvious books and merchandising) seems to be of the "throw something at the wall until it sticks" sort. The 3DS release could have been handled way better, and it would have been a lot more reasonable to stick to one platform for this one, or choose PS3 instead if they really wanted a home console game for example.

It isn't that much mismanaged of course (it's a niche game), but there's really some weird decisions.

Yeah, Shinovi Versus sold more than Burst.

The huge marketing boost, the fact that it was a sequel with a proper engine, and the fact that it was released at the same time as an anime helped a lot.

Fair enough. I wonder if the release date was set "randomly". I mean, maybe they didnt know that so many bigger titles would release at the same date. It could always be possible to do a delay i guess, but i dont know how hard it is to do that.

There is no such thing as "too many" musou games!!!!

But yeh, SW4-II does seem to be milking it somewhat at this point and whilst I do expect the opening week to be somewhere around 100k cumulative, I don't expect sales to grow much higher.

I assume that being released on a console that is more biased towards otakus also helped.

Wasn't Shinovi Versus much more successful than the 3DS games? Or am I recalling it wrong?

SK games did well on both 3DS and Vita, it's SK2 that bombed hard
maybe 3DS users didn't like the switch from a 2,5D side scrolling action to a third person one

Estival is gonna be released on 26 March? if so, not a wise decision, too many games on sales that week...

I don't think the Vita will even reach 4 million, there's really no sign of it getting any better than it is now, considering how very little Sony cares about it. It will continue to get low budget games for a while but they will not expand the userbase. It's only going downhill from there.

Surely, overseas sales will save the franchise lol. Just as it seems to be keeping the Neptunia franchise afloat.

It's only need 400k to top 4m .I think it can do between 4.5m and 4.8m
