Since Castlevania released last week in Japan, it would be interesting to see what both PS2 CVs did in comparison. Does anyone have the numbers at hand?

Lament of Innocence first week (2003): 61,389
Curse of Darkness first week (2005): 28,049

Last time I checked it had low sales everywhere. Selling better than DS entries doesn't mean much.

Are you sure? The DS versions were usually good for ~200k in the US. There is something to be said about development costs, as well.

It's legit, but I don't think that's how it works. The leak was from a list of Famitsu specifically tracking first day sales for all new releases for the week. It's not a leak from a general daily sales list, so it shouldn't matter when the game was released.

Every Famitsu first day report so far tracks the sales until Thursday. If something was released at Wednesday it was 2 days of sales. It should be the same this time.

It is going pretty well, actually. Also, the official site was selling surprise bags for 20,000 yens (USD 200), which contain a random ticket ("high five" ones that allow you to attend any stage including birthdays, specials, etc, or "98%" that let you attend any stage except first and last day), and they are now selling a second set which includes a raffle for a 60 2-shot pictures.

There is where wota's money is going right now. That and the premium PSP packs with the game.

I don´t disagree with you but let´s not ignore that PSP is the second most sold system this Gen in Japan and got the overly hyped SQEX games Bbs, Crisis Core and "MGS5"... I mean Peace Walker. So, it´s obvious that Monster Hunter beeing the only games since PSP launch charting looks a bit weird in comparison to Wiis several entries.

Well yeah, it' because Nintendo set the standard so high that most "commoners" ( even the "big" names you cited ) have hard time to crack the yearly top 10.

PSP has sold a shit load of hardware in Japan enough to be considered a market leader in normal circumstance but if we look at its million-seller list in the region, well there is only MHP, a bunch of them :lol

On the other hand Wii and DS has exclusively the publisher that in the last 15 years or so accounted alone for almost a third of total software sales in the country.

EDIT:

- Crisis Core is the third best selling FF spinoff (after Final Fantasy Tactics and Dissidia) and sold much better than the other FFVII spinoff.
- Peace Walker will probably end as the best selling MGS in Japan (not adding budget and special releases). If I remember correctly it was at >800k a few weeks ago.

You might have a point with BBS. We'll have to wait and see if KH3D can sell as good as the numbered KH games.

I would say that all those 3 games have more or less meet sales expectation in Japan.
They were all serious attempt by big japanese publishers ( basically two numbered entries in popular franchises without the number in the title and the recognized followup of a very beloved game ).

The worldwide picture is a bit different. Not sure for Crisis Core but I think the other two could have been hurt by PSP current state in western markets.
There is no way that PW can meet Konami initial forecast of 3 millions and KHBBS should have an hard time to outsell the DS spinoff in America ( KH main market).
