Yup, Luigi's Mansion did reach 1mn in Japan alone. I believe NLG even got some sort of reward for it, no?
Well, a second season for the anime was confirmed... maybe they should simply wait until then in order to release the game
Simultameous release will eat many sales of PS4 version in case it came out at a different date later, there is no doubt for that. I guess SE doesn't want to turn the main entry into an episode festival.

Not too bad for its 5th year, I believe Etrian Odyssey 5 doesn't have a release date yet, so maybe that one too, also the Yokai Watch/Romance of the three kingdoms thing and of course Pokemon.

...Unless it got the Layton 5's treatment.
Well, except in this case EOV doesn't actually have a release platform yet.
Square Enix and Dragon Quest.
related to all these points, I think I have one question.
could Square Enix finally have finally understood both hardware makers and thirds parties have to put an equal amount of effort to keep the japanese industry alive?
I believe that the japanese console enviorment is doing so poorly due to 3rd parties having this idea of "first you sell 10-20 million pieces of hardware, THEN I'll consider putting my AAA game or putting exclusive on it". That has brought down everything to its knees, particularly PS4, Vita and WiiU.
this seems to me like an effort from SE to help... everyone, to help Japan in general. They are using the Dragon Quest brand to try to breathe some air into the japanese videogame life
The fact that they consider NX, which has sold exactly zero units so far, speaks volumes about it.

Probably mentioned in the presentation, but Dragon Quest Heroes has shipped over 1 million for Japan/Asia: http://www.jp.square-enix.com/company/ja/news/2015/html/4c3b1acbc746487288fff517e033ee99.html
The way I see it, the reason Dragon Quest X for PS4 and NX exists is because all of the dedicated devices it's currently on are nearing EOL or already EOL. As such, adding PS4 and NX versions places the game on platforms that will be able to sustain an audience for at least another 5+ years.@Nirolak: I'm surprised DQXI is skipping PS3 but the use of UE4 kind of justifies it. DQX is more surprising though. It would seem to make sense to have it as many places as possible. Considering they announced the NX version it's not like they can only manage one at a time either.
About the little Etrian Odyssey V discussion an NX version might be difficult if it's not a dual screen system. Not impossible but it would either require more planning or the series loses its USP.
I do suspect this factored in, yes.related to all these points, I think I have one question.

The fact that they consider NX, which has sold exactly zero units so far, speaks volumes about it.
Regarding if NX gets the Unreal version or 3DS version of DQXI, I want to believe that it's easier to port an UE4 title to NX than porting a 3DS title to NX.

I think the best argument in favor of it being a port of the UE4 game is simply looking at the amount of Japanese games running on Unreal Engine 4.
There's a huge potential market for Epic if they make UE4 work on NX. All those developers using their own custom engines on 3DS are potential new licensees, or an opportunity to sell even more licenses to their existing customers.
Mark Rein has been very clear over the years that the two requirements for your platform to receive Unreal Engine are 1.) it meets the hardware requirements and 2.) there is a sizable audience of people who would actually consider licensing the engine to develop for the platform. Given how UE4 scales to mobile, unless the NX uses 5+ year old hardware, the first requirement should be covered. It would be hard to imagine there's no demand for the second.

What about the PS4 version of DQXI, then? It doesn't look scalable to mobile to me (unless I'm wrong and they did an amazing job), and I can't see it running on a Nintendo Handheld next year. Unless DQXI is 2017 when the Wii U replacement is ready, but that would make the 3DS version ancient.
I hope you get what I meant, this hasn't been a good day for my English.
One thing worth keeping in mind is that Dragon Quest's gameplay is pretty simplistic. They just need to adequately display semi-open areas as shown in the video and let you wander around. What about the PS4 version of DQXI, then?
