After Y6, Yakuza really lost its identity and tone. I still kind of view that as the real ending to the series. If the silly stuff is just the main world, then it has no shock value or surprise when it appears. If this is canon then it really just makes the whole world feel unbelievable.

Judgment is the true sequel for longtime fans of the series. To me that feels much more like I’m a playing a Yakuza game than Y7 or 8.

They can't be serious, this is the coolest shit I could never imagine, lmao, I'd laugh out loud if he said something "Ore wa kaizoku oo ni naru otoko daaaaa!" lmao.

BTW, they localized "ookoku" (kingdom) like "queendom", I don't know if it's DEI or too much creative freedom bs and I sure don't know what's worse, I just hope it comes in Spanish so I don't have to read stuff like that while playing

Gross. Don't turn my beloved series into another typical weaboo dumpster fire. Thank goodness the director already said that the Series will keep its focus on middle aged men.

On topic: I'm always in for more Majima, so this is bought as fuck.
IDK wtf is that "weaboo" thing you mentioned, tbh I've never been sure of what exactly it means, but let's be honest: Ryuu Ga Gotoku series has always been about the typical japanese pop culture gags, so keep it coming!

Nagoshi jumping out of the boat really hit the series in my opinion, either people like it or not.

I highly doubt it he would pull the Kiryu comeback if he was in charge.

Ok serious question. Is this mainline Yakuza games or its own thing?
It takes place after the events of Yakuza 8, and references events from that story. Just like Kiryu got his own Gaiden [Side Story] last year; this is Majima's.

Just as the events of Kiryu's Gaiden working into Yakuza 8, it would not at all be surprising if the events of this game were referenced or incorporated into a future "mainline" Yakuza game.

Steve Harvey Wtf GIF by Super Deluxe

Yakuza is just turning into a cod, fifa thing now every year a new game.
Man I miss the days of downloading the yakuza 3 demo on jap ps3 store then being pumped it was getting released in UK. Yakuza 3 and then 4 was incredible back in the day.

I've been a Yakuza fan since the PS2 era. The mix of wackiness and seriousness has always been part of the appeal. But Saints Row is a cautionary tale of how leaning too much into the wackiness can be a detriment. Saints Row also had the perfect balance with 1 and 2, and to some extent with 3. Everything after that went too off the rails and was just a bunch of sloppy shit.

I'm glad this isn't a mainline title. If this were an elseworlds story like Ishin or Dead Souls, I wouldn't be worried at all, but they seem to be making this canon. Yakuza is one of the few ongoing video game series I still enjoy and will always buy day 1. I just hope they don't fuck up this franchise by trying to turn it into a meme of the week.

The combo of not particularly enjoying the 7th mainline game and SEGA deciding not to produce physical copies of Gaiden in North America pretty much killed my interest in the--for the lack of a better way of putting it--Like a Dragon portion of the franchise. Another game of heavily recycled assets but with Majima also isn't doing anything for me. Not that I expect the core portion of the franchise to end, but at this point, I wish they'd focus their side efforts on either a new series to replace Judgment or funkier, licensed entries like Hokuto ga Gotoku.

The first Yakuza game I played was Y. Zero. I loved it. The Goro Majima character was a big reason I enjoyed it so much. So, I'm looking forward to this new game, where he's a pirate with amnesia. Looks like fun.

Its gotten way off course at this point. Thinking I'm gonna jump on the Judgement wagon from now on for some relatively serious deka action reminiscent of the Yakuza 1~6 games instead.

So this will have real-time fighting, and not turned-based fighting? If so, then I might get this one.
Absolutely hated the turn-based fighting in the last couple Yakuza games. Was too slow and boring for my taste and basically destroyed my enjoyment of the franchise.

A new action based Yakuza game with Majima living the pirate life? Hell yeah im in. Wish it wasent in Hawai though. Going to the same big city back to back make some things less exciting when it comes to exploration, but thers new islands so not too bad.

Saying that, i wish it was a new Judgment game. The stories in Judgement are usually better than the ones from the main Yakuza series.

Looks like SEGA is doing a physical release for PC as well (at least in Europe). It comes with a dope steelbook, a poster and ofc a redeem code for the game on Steam.

well said...

having been a fan since the original ps2 games (i used a guide to get through kenzan!, which i really enjoyed), this's pretty much where i'm at, as well. i tried like a dragon, bailed after completing the real estate minigame, &'ve never returned to the series. i really liked judgment, but judgment 2, not so much, unfortunately, & i guess the future of the series is in question?...

i mean, i'm fine with the series having ended (& ended well, imo). i guess i'm open to spin-offs, but the majima of pirate yakuza bears more resemblance to ichiban than the majima i love...

We're gonna get like 5 games with that Hawaii map now aren't we..
They've built their largest & most complex map which is also a summer paradise you want to spend time in. Of course they're going to be using it. Thankfully it won't be the only location in Majima's game.

Yokoyama is a hack, bring back Nagoshi, this just look like wacky trash shovelware, and i say this as someone that bought Yakuza Dead Souls day one. Yakuza 0 influx of "wacky" fans ruined the series. The series used to have a modicum of seriousness, now its just wacky. instead of seriousnes with a mix of wacky.

Nothing seems compelling storywise about this game, its also worse that its seemingly canon.
Yakuza Dead Souls goes for like $80+ on ebay right now, making it the most valuable Yukuza game, meaning it is the best game ever created in the Yukuza series.

I'm really looking forward to this. Looks fun.

I still need to play Yakuza 6 to wrap it up. I played Kiwami 1 and 2, and also Yak Zero. Got a little tired of the combat.

As someone who just wants Lost Judgment 3 I'm just gonna say it.

This feels too random and stupid, sorry.

I might jump in, but I'm extremely disappointed.
Yep, this is kind of too much even though Like a Dragon is one of my favorite game series.

I would have much preferred Judgment 3 or another similar styles game.
