Jason Schreier "Horizon Online Next for Guerilla, Horizon 3 'Ways off', Sony's Live Service Initiative was no joke"

It’s best if you give up trying to understand it. This place has a hate boner for Horizon and it prevents people from thinking rationally or accepting facts.
"Sony Gaf" as it often referred to as has a hate boner for Horizon lol sure
No it's that Aloy is a bland uncharismatic character, she was fine enough in the OG, but has only become more bland in the sequel, why do you think they're trying a silly spinoff in the Lego universe?
Both Zero Dawn and Forbidden West sold extremely well and Sony hasn’t pushed Horizon as much as they did other franchises, like people around here love to claim.
Yes they did, they are both great games, but Drake, Mario or Lara Aloy is not
There were more Killzone games between 2009 and 2013 than there have been Horizon games. Uncharted gets a slight graphical next-Gen remaster 8 years after the first game as a full retail priced collection and no one bats an eye; Horizon gets an optional $10 remaster upgrade after 7 years and it’s “greedy Sony!”.
They suffered a similar issue, great gameplay brilliant aesthetic, bland as toast protags lol
People remember Killzone for the Helghast...that's it

The irrational hate of Horizon here does not reflect reality.
Actually it does, again the mainline games are great, but over saturation IS weakening the brand, just look at peoples reaction to that section of the State of Play (Lego, Remaster)

Again great game series, but Aloy and Horizon are clearly not an everyman like Mario etc

No, it’s a blunder. Billions spent on Bungie just to hemorrhage tons of staff and well reported issues with Marathon.
The "reporting" on Marathon has been laughable. You also don't measure the value of a purchase by (# of employees). You measure it by the amount profit it generates over a length of time.
Naughty Dog wasting years on a cancelled project,
We don't know how large the team size was.
and a shit ton of prestige lost for Sony first party.
This is just a fake concept you want to believe in. The actual PlayStation audience doesn't think like this.
Then we have the disaster known as Concord
Fair enough.
and big questions being raised about Fairgame$ and the similarities it has to the entire Concord situation.
All raised by gamers with GAAS Derangement Syndrome. Common sense tells us to wait for gameplay first.
Maybe it might be better in future, but right now the performance has been pretty poor.
Apparently, PlayStation disagrees with you because they're going forward with the strategy.

Yes, but there is absolutely no guarantee that you would've gotten anything you were wishing for, so nothing was lost.

It's all in your heads.
I'm sorry, but you are making no sense whatsoever. I wasn't even talking about me liking some hypothetical game or not. The point is it was an incompetent decision which cost Sony resources, which could've been spent on projects that make much more sense financially, no matter if I personally would have ended up liking the resulting game or not. And even if there's no guarantee I would like the resulting game, so what? There's also no guarantee I wouldn't.

Woke games by Microsoft and Sony all over the place.... Nintendo Zelda is a girl has her own game but need tons of help along the way... we are all doomed!

I am not sure if I am joking or not.

Very few players stuck around to play the Insurgent and Intercept expansions for Killzone Shadowfall.

< 0.1% of players obtained even the easiest to obtain trophies.

Despite the multiplayer supporting offline bots, they didn’t adjust the trophies to work offline once they shutdown the online service and delisted DLC.

the Aloy love from sony is annoying, people are more into the gameplay then the character, they couldv stuck any character in that game and it wouldv worked.

We are back to "its so over" :(

No more fucking horizon or tlou, im sick of both franchise now
I don't even know what to expect of TLOU 3. Could be amazing like the first one, or could be even longer and with more preaching and more pointless characters arcs like the second one which felt like 3 games storylines embedded and forced somehow into one.

They should've included online as an extra mode in future TLou & Horizon games. It's always a big risk to release a strictly online version of a singleplayer IP, not knowing how many people will actually buy it and continue playing it to keep the userbase healthy.

One thing GAF hates is a strong, confident, independent woman! I'm convinced the only people mad about her looks are weebs with a crippling porn addiction
I don’t think it’s like that at all. People here don’t like the universe (for some reason) and didn’t like the changes they made to alloy. I’ve never ever heard anyone say they don’t want her to lead it, ever. In fact, they defended the old character model as I’m sure you have seen.

Most people’s criticism seems to come from from the universe itself in. I think it’s an amazing take on the apocalypse, we totally lost which is neat imo. The complaints about bows taking down space age dinosaurs though… that’s legit.

The Horizon GAAS thing could go either way.

Popular game but I'm not sure it can carry a ,multiplayer service game. Aloy has a lot of charm and it's a game with great graphics, I don't see much in the other characters or world to sustain such a game. I suppose they could really add to the world and mechanics and take on Monster Hunter or create something really big to rival such games in slightly different way, timing could be key to appear fresh. I suspect it will be fairly lightweight, not enough to compel players away from the main titles.

The ip is really big though so worth a try but I feel Aloy is underrated and is what sells the game along with pretty graphics which is difficult in mp.

That is placeholder art from very very very early in pre-production. No reason to believe that has any bearing on the final game.

And A LOT of people are asking for Horizon Online
Who redditors? Also those look similar to concord style characters. Plus bit a single male character at all.

People who aren't you, apparently.

Again, random placeholder characters for early work done on the online game at least a few years before it ships. Means nothing at all.

So, wait to release the third part of a trilogy until absolutely no one can remember the story. Makes perfect sense. Good luck with your online game, i don't want it.

We know we dont like the GaaS push here on GAF but what do you think would be the best chance for this game? Monster Hunter style different types of robots?

No to another GAAS and live service. Why don't they use the funds for the sequel, or revive killzone franchise or better yet new IP. Sony is always forgetting that there strengths is in single player games.

EDMIX

Writes a lot, says very little
Your original argument is GAAS is the future of gaming, implying single player games are on their way out.
? I mean, do you just have a "either or" type of mind or something? Saying something will be the future of gaming doesn't mean single player games won't exist or "on their way out"

You merely have a either or mindset that seems to believe that liking one thing, means hating another, something being suggested as the future means something else will be gone etc

His comments don't really support anything you are saying btw, you are merely forcing that based on how you think....

That seems to be like, a lot of your post btw.
Now we’re going down a different road about how GAAS are fascinating but you can’t quantify that.
Well...they don't need to, they are allowed to be fascinated by something or like something...

No disrespect man, someone saying that GAAS or online gaming or social gaming etc is the future, isn't saying Single Player games will be gone, but clearly enough evidence exist that people playing online socially will continue and move wild numbers and to say its the future imho isn't a wild statement. Enough data supports that will continue and likely be the norm in gaming if it isn't already.

I'd argue the single player games a lot of us play today, we are the minority regarding this, not the majority. So most gaming will not be single player, that is clear, but we still have a market and Men_in_Boxes Men_in_Boxes is not suggesting GAAS will have single player games gone.

So everything you say is meaningless and nothing but hypotheticals.
It's rather pointless, tbh.

Horizon 3 will be a PS6 game. Their heavy hitters seem to be one title per gen now. With a possible remaster of an older title in there too.

I just can't see this one doing well.

People who like Horizon like it for the cutting edge. Not this artstyle:

Presumably they also like it for the lore and some of the characters. Anything about the gameplay/design that's great will get hampered by the MP component. If people want fast paced monster hunting, they'll be playing MH Wilds and the doubtless countless expansions Capcom has planned for that behemoth.

Plus, people are high on Concord's failure. Fairgame$ being another flop is just going to keep the string going. Marathon being a flop will be catastrophic. This being a flop would be a predictable whimper to the whole initiative.

Most people don’t even know concord exists outside of hardcore message boards, but casuals know about Helldivers 2, so I’d say no to that one
LOL. That May State of Play alone on YT showcasing Concord has millions an millions of views across all the videos talking about the show. And that doesnt even include Twitch or any other streaming sites. And popular streamers all posted their beta and final release impressions too.

The first 10 minutes of the entire show was all Concord. Its not often in any of these 30-45 minute MS or Sony shows does a single game get 10 minutes alone.

Lets face it. People knew about the game. But they avoided it.

That’s far less than the number of people that have played HD2

HD2 has more people knowing and buying it because its a good game that is different and got tons on word of mouth and fun memes.

Concord had so few players playing it because it's a bad game with terrible artwork, and got bad memes. The only good thing about it was the mo cap was solid. But no game sells great or is reviewed solid on mo cap alone.

Again with the State of Play views.
Compare that with the average views of Concord trailers.

And tbh, I couldn't even name half of the games shown in the last SoP.
So SoP views aren't proof of anything.

Yes…and your point? I was replying to someone who says the mindshare impact was far greater, don’t think so…and Helldivers 3 will eventually come out and concord will be long forgotten

Yeah they didn't, for the 100th time, that's the point. They literally wasted hundreds of millions of dollars on projects with almost no chance of succeding and some fanboys can't even admit that was a mistake. Unbelievable.
