Ghost of Tsushima - Review Thread

It still adds depth, why do people react like I am attacking Nioh? I love Nioh too but it's a game about fighting demons... LOL

I much prefer Sekiro's take. Pure bliss - no stance B.S. When you think about stances, it's just a different animation set with different slider presets for dmg, defense etc. There is beauty in the simplicity of Sekiro's combat in this regard. We'll see soon enough whether it's materially different to Nioh (the design principle) and whether it's worth the implementation.

Bloodborne was relatively easy once you got the hang of it. Only the bosses posed any great threat, unless you get complacent, which I did sometimes in all honesty. The reviews I've seen sound very much like the set up I've just described.
yeah, bloodborne was more easy than ds1, even more if you choose the axe as a starting weapon.

but it still pose a very good challenge and you can't play in a brainless state like most modern games.

The reviews for this game are weird. Or maybe it’s just im just reading a lot more than usual.

You have reviewers contradicting each other.

Saying:

It has bad AI: some don’t mention AI at all

The main story isn’t something to take seriously or that good: the story is great

The game is a bit easy: the game is challenging

Quests and the game become repetitive: The game has great quests

The game is very much following open world tropes: the game is unique and not like other open world games

The camera is rough: no mention of the camera

Standard looping lifeless NPC dialogue in villages: NPCs full of life and variety

Voice acting and English performances aren’t convincing: great convincing voice work and acting

It’s weird, it feels like how often you play open world games will affect your enjoyment of this game. If you’re tired of open world games then you may not enjoy this at the moment. If you don’t mind open world checklist stuff and don’t have open world fatigue, you’ll enjoy this game.

Guess I’ll have to wait and see play to see which group I fall into!
yeah some opinion are all over the place especially about jin, secondary characters and story quality.

combat is pretty much appreciated by everyone, same for graphics, art design and rewarding exploration.

Never worry about what other people think. On the other hand, banter is part of the bonding process. It's up to you to know people well enough to understand where they're coming from. My advice would be to kick him in the nuts.

Do we know if we can change the difficulty mid game?

I like a challenge but I also have limited time to game and want to get this game done within 5 days as I have some time off work.

I intend to start the game on hard but if it's taking me too long to get through can I bump it down to normal torwards the end or would I have to restart the whole game?

Fantastic question. I'd like to know too

I'd hope so. Evidently some of the standoffs are extremely difficult even on normal.

I see where you're coming from but I think I have some idea of what's up after watching many of the review.

"It has bad AI: some don’t mention AI at all":
Some reviewers have mentioned that the AI don't attack more than one at a time. Others include that if you're playing in Stealth play, sometimes the AI doesn't attack at all. Many agree the combat itself is good when playing in action if you learn and implement the styles.

"The main story isn’t something to take seriously or that good: the story is great":
Most think the story is really good, and exploring side quests help add to the experience adding in detail. As for those that say the main story isn't something to take seriously, I have no idea what they're on about.

"The game is a bit easy: the game is challenging":
Almost all reviews say that in easy difficulties, it just isn't challenging, perhaps with exception to the latter part of the game. If the reviewer played on easy difficulties, it sounds like they will think it's a bit easy.

"Quests and the game become repetitive: The game has great quests"
The game itself, according to many, is an open world game. If you force yourself to play every objective like a checklist for completion, it's likely to feel like an open world game with repetitive overall objectives. If you decide to play it deciding to not care whether you check off every objective and dive into the game, you will enjoy the quests and game more.

"The game is very much following open world tropes: the game is unique and not like other open world games":
See previous/related comment just above.

See previous/related two comments just above.

"The camera is rough: no mention of the camera":
One review mentions that the camera can be or is used to focus on certain things using off-screen audio cues to help you know when to dodge, roll, or block an enemy. Like any open world game, I'm guessing there will be camera issues here and there.

"Standard looping lifeless NPC dialogue in villages: NPCs full of life and variety":
I'm sure some NPC dialogues will be this way. Some reviews go out of their way to point out there are many NPCs that have a great dialogue with the main character. No idea what the ratio would be.

"Voice acting and English performances aren’t convincing: great convincing voice work and acting"
I imagine this is just subjective.

Sounds like he’s bored of gaming. His review sounds like the type that turns all open world games into the same thing every time.

Sounds like if my grandfather reviewed a game.

Today, I reviewed a game. It is definitely a game. It seems like other games. I just didn’t find things to make it anything different than games that are like game. If you like games, this game may be for you. If not, you may wish to avoid game.

Sure.

Im just correcting the statement that stances in Nioh isnt used for fighting enemy types.
Yeah, actually the stances in Nioh brought me back to Jedi Outcast. I loved the light, medium and heavy styles in that... even though there should be 7 styles in Star Wars.
