FRIDAY NIGHT [OT] - Official NeoGAF Weekend Kickoff

John Marston

GAF's very own treasure goblin
Last time I was on a large dose of shrooms I was on a funfair ride screaming and crushing my friend, whilst the police watched on.

This ride.

Shit you're braver than me!

My trips usually included watching X-Files episodes and Die Hard 2 in the theatres.
Also watching a wall breathe at a party for 20 minutes.

Actually the worst part was sitting amongst complete strangers, wrapped in a blanket watching Requiem for a Dream on a huge projector.

Back in my youth I was known for taking large doses maybe 200g raw. Disgusting, but I chugged those bad boys down. Like yourself I would mostly stay indoors around calm people watching stuff like Trap Door.

I get what you're saying, but once you figured out your dosage these kinda things actually become quite enticing imo.

I'm more familiar with LSD than with mushrooms though. I'd never go in public on something like 300μg, but a 150 or something? Totally, that'd be awesome.

Well sure! In the right setting (nature) and people I fully trust would be amazing. See, I'm already prone to anxiety and feeling dissociative regarding the external world so I'm just scared I guess.

I'm already tripping balls when sober. Then again; spacing out in a save and beautiful environment (talking national park esque scenery/setting) would be be amazing beyond belief.

Being in a good and strong headspace is highly needed as well, which I'm currently not lol.

It's definitely on my bucket list under the right circumstances!

Another reason would be to look inside. As well as maybe get rid of some old imprinted bad code and conditioning and such.

Yeah, probably good call :D I took LSD the first time after a really, really (really) bad breakup. It was horrible (ego death, most scared I've ever been by a LONG shot) but also really cathartic in a way. So yeah, you're definitely right, but it can also actually help getting you to a space where you feel more comfortable. At least it did for me.

It's a fascinating drug in many ways, too bad it's illegal and will probably stay that way for at least another 30 years or so for most parts. I know there's a lot of "purists" out there who advise on only taking LSD every 3-6 months (at most) or so and then going for a full trip every time, but I actually had some very good experience with taking lower dosages too (not necessarily microdosing) in order to help with stuff like paralysing sorrow.

Started with a half and felt very little unfortunately. I'm going to try a full one this morning after I do my grocery shopping.

Be advised about the first remake. It's great (9/10, honestly one of the best remakes ever), but it was released in like 2002 or something for the gamecube originally. So in comparison to RE2make++ it's obviously widely different.

7 and 8 are entirely different stories, both in terms of the actual story as well as the gameplay (as you pointed out). I think the Gold Edition of 8 actually added a third person mode, but yeah, it's designed to be played in first person - which I personally don't appreciate. Also, if you care about the story, I'd suggest playing 7 (or at least watching some kind of recap) because 8 is a direct continuation of 7, much more so than previous iterations build up on each other.

It'll be interesting to see what you think of RE3make, without having a reference for the original. I'd say it's a great game, albeit a bit short. I'm just really disappointed in how much they nerfed Nemesis.
I just finished RE3. yeah it's short.... i finished it in 4hrs 20 mins. could do it quicker now of course. my first RE2 was 8-9 hours. second was just over 6 hrs.

i think i still prefer RE2. The characters are more interesting. Claire, Leon, Sherry, Ada. I love Jill and Carlos is cool but that's it. Also I really like RE2's map better. the police station, underground, sewers, orphanage, etc. RE3's map was cool but felt less connected overall. I love how RE2's loops back on itself. 3 does do this but not as much. One thing i'll say is i much prefer RE3's sewer area. in RE2 i done so much backtracking even on my second play through.

as for the enemy dudes. i prefer Nemesis to Tyrant. In Claire's play through he's boring. If I remember right he fucks off after the police parking area. At least in Leon's he keeps appearing. Nemesis i think is a much cooler looking boss.

3 feels easier. I get showered in ammo and healing. There wasn't really an area that I got stuck at. In 2 there were some parts where I struggled. The lickers ? were a piece of cake in 3 too. Just fire a bunch of assault rifle bullets and that's it. I hated them in 2 unless I had explosives which I didn't seem to in Leon's play through. Overall I think the combat in 3 is more fun. I prefer the weapons and the dodge mechanic is really useful.

Now I will go play the original or move on to 7/8. Unless you'd recommend I move on to 4 ?

Also I'm gonna need to read and see how Nemesis was nerfed.

Agree a 100% on most of what you're saying (so not a 100% i guess lol?), especially in regards to RE2make vs RE3make.

Since you already went down the REmake path, might as well continue moving on to RE4make I'd suggest. Maybe easier to stick to the REmakes now and then go through the classics after that? But maybe that's just me, other people would probably like to switch it up once in a while.

It's not much of a spoiler or anything, Nemesis in RE3 is (iirc) much more aggresive and feels more like a genuine and almost alyways present threat, as were in RE3make most of his encounters felt like scripted QTEs or something. It's especially sad since they've gotten Mr. X in RE2Make soo right. I agree with your point about it being wasted potential that Mr. X fucked off relatively quickly in RE2make, but that is kinda what the original did too, so I guess I don't blame them too much for that. They pretty much just needed to take that system and apply it to Nemesis in RE3make, and the game would already be better by a lot.

Mr. X is like this constant thread that is looming around (actually kinda like a character in RE8...), you hear his steps, thinking yourself "shiiit here he comes, go away, I don't have time for you pls leave me alone". I love this mechanic so much actually. Too bad not a lot of other games do that, Lords of The Fallen (2023) has something sliiiightly similiar, but overall it's obviously something very different and not executed nearly as good as in RE2make.

E: Just in case, I'd like to point out that RE4 plays VERY differently from the previous games. That's not exactly a secret and you probably know that, but as I said, just in case. Don't want you spending 30 bucks on the game and then being irritated that it's very different. Personally while I love 4, it could never compete with classic RE for me.

i guess i'll do the first game next then since i already have it. to be honest 4 looks like the one i'm least interested in and i'm not really sure why. I think 7 will be fun but Village looks so good. I love the creepy/goth vibe of the location and characters. I really want to play that but I haven't bought that yet either.

so i think i'll do 1 > 8 > 7 > 4.

i really liked Jill in 3 so i want to play as her again and get the original story to get a better understanding of the universe.

I couldn't get near my PC this weekend, we had to do the Christmas stuff, get the decorations down etc. We did manage to check out the Christmas market in town though though, pure chaos but it was worth it, had a few mulled ciders, weirdly made me feel all.. Christmasy :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Started watching Fargo season 1 on a whim again (For the 3rd or 4th time?) and I can't stop.
Time to binge season 1,2,3 & 5 😁
Season 4 is not really up to their standards.

The show isn't near perfection like Breaking Bad but it's pretty close.

Fargo S1 especially is like top20 tv for me. enjoy! The last season I watched was with the guy with the crooked teeth, which was pretty good I think? I don't really recall besides really liking s1 and laughing a lot at Fat Damon eagerly trying his best to be taken seriously for once.

On a similiar note; I started rewatching Boston Legal. Watched that show first like 20 years ago, during what'd you call my formative years. Never really had a great time to watch it since then. It's interesting to notice how much that silly show influenced me, but I'm kinda glad. As silly as it might be, at its core it's really genuine, well written and and most importantly: promotes drinking, smoking and chasing after young girls. I can very much see how that would greaty appeal to a 14year old me, and sadly I can see even better how much more it appeals to me now :D

You made me think of Mad Men.

I remember an episode where a 5 year old dressed as a cowboy was running around during a party and he knocks over a lamp. The adult next to him slaps the kid and when the father comes over he thanks him 😄

Pregnant women drinking and smoking ooo lala!

Reminds me of the parties in the 70's when I was playing with my cars under a cloud of smoke and my drunk uncle Mike would stumble and fall into the Christmas tree 😅

I'm getting dragged to Cambridge tomorrow morning, as the official Christmas shopping bag carrier.
Hoping this provides a moment of levity during your ordeal here's an anecdote of mine when I was the official bag carrier.

I was already carrying 3 bags and our day was running long. It was a bit past 4 o'clock and I could feel the sweat trickling down my back under my shirt + winter coat.
My patience was running thin.

Girlfriend says we do one last stop at Foot Locker for some sneakers.
She is browsing the wall and I'm standing beside her, overencumbered and grumpy. I was also wearing a Philadelphia Flyers cap.

A hyperactive salesperson pops up in my face and exclaims "HEY HEY! You a fan of the Flyers?!?"
I reply "HEY HEY! You a fan of REFEREES??"

Girlfriend looks at me with slight disapproval and I just say "I'm going outside for a smoke".

The End 🙂
