Dragon's Dogma 2 | New Previews Are coming up

and the game has 1 save file only, if it autosaves yikes.
the good part is that DD1 doesn't auto-save mid missions, it only auto-saves when you complete an objective, use a rift stone, rest at an inn or change areas, but, that's also a problem because if you're 20 minutes into a mission and you die, oh boy I have bad news for you, my workaround is to manually save the game after each encounter, this will prevent losing progress if u die for some reasson.

Most of the "fallible" quests on the first game are escort sidequest, that once you accept the person you need to escort ll follow you until the end of times, but If u let this person die, they are done for good and that can affect some future sidequests, but If u dont feel ready to escort that person at that time u can aways return the quest to the questboard and accept again later.

There is differents outcomes on the first game too, for exemple
there is a sidequest early on the game that you are asked to help a rich person to evict some poor folks of his lands, If u take too long the rich guy ll handle the metter himself and later u discover that he killed the family.
To my recollection quest outcomes were less organic. Choose to do it this way or do it that way (or not at all) and letting someone die was instant failure full stop. Them not being around for later content isn't something you'd know about on a first playthrough. What I was getting at is that quest I mentioned previously felt more organic (even if it's really not) and wasn't an automatic failure when you "failed" and (hopefully) that's their approach for quests. Especially since various previews are talking about how organic it felt running around the world.

all the previews are positive, i'm so happy.

I'm sorry but most of them are just shills.
Been watching a more level headed preview from a french YouTuber and he is luck warm about the game.

Many things look and feel ancient. He's saying the world and it's character don't react to your actions (he mentions being incarcerated, finding the key in a box that was in your cell, and bailing out of jail without anyone, including the guards, giving a flying fuck).

This plus simplified armor, clearly poor performance on PS5 should raise alarm levels to anyone iffy about getting the game.

he probably used a skeleton key, for reference this is how jail time worked on the first game: Bribe, Runway or Wait

and about the "world dont react to your actions" how to you think he got incarcerated ? NPC ll react and flee if u start hitting them, at least that's how it works on DD1.

I hope you will excuse me if I don't take your word for it without any proof.
That said, I don't need to be convinced by previews. I played the first chapter for hundreds of hours and from what I see the second chapter will be even better, a 2.0 version of the first game (with very cool physical interactions with the surrounding environment, monsters and npcs, to address the "many things looks ancient"). There are also previews that talk about the quests and how well they are structured.
The performance can be fixed, on pc it will be fine and for the fashion, well, we'll see if the variety will be there (i think it will, from what i can see).
However I'm just happy because, with favorable press, more people will be able to play and enjoy it.

Nah it's all good. I'm just weary of glowing previews when the game has apparent flaws , is all.
This is why it’s important to focus more on what they’re describing and the gameplay footage, rather than if they like it or not. “Shills” can still give relevant information and footage about gameplay features regardless of bias.

The one thing I needed to know, I had to look up... And I can't say I'm happy about the sound of it. :-\

I trust Itsuno and will eventually get over it I'm sure, but it sounds like they nerfed one of my most favorite elements from the orignal that I've preached about for years now;
Layered Armor

Maybe I'm reading into it wrong and will be fine... Variety is good of course, and was to be expected... But I absolutely loved mixing and matching clothing and armor.

Godammit... *ssiiiiggghhhh

It's a weird response from Itsuno in multiple ways.

"we wanted to balance it so people wouldn't always choose the same things" - players gravitated towards the same items because of their superior stats, not sure how simplifying the layer system solves this.
"we divided the equipment for the upper half and the lower half of the body" - those were already separate in DD1...
"we added helms and capes" - which were also separate slots in DD1???
"we wanted to create a system where even at high levels, players are encouraged to choose different things" - unless they decoupled defense stats and boni from armor pieces or added a transmog option, what would disincentivize players from simply picking the mechanically best pieces like in DD1?

I wonder if it's just a big mistranslation, because very little of what he says makes sense to me.

Right.. It is a weird way of saying things, and there may be some mistranslation. It just seemed to me, to make it more unique, just add a third tier.. Or offer more ornaments, jewelery, etc.
When last playing DD;DA a few weeks ago, almost 50% of the pawns all were wearing that silly Princess dress. Not sure why there's so many unoriginal people out there... it's not even that pretty, folks.

So yeah, there needs to be some transmog option for gear (and even weapons) allowing for color/dye changing different portions of armor, a la MHW... at the very least, if they're going to pull this bullshit.

I know I'm going to end up loving the shit out this game. I already love it simply because it actually exists. It still feels like a pipe dream... But this being one of the top 3 reasons DD1 was GOATed, and nerfing the fuck out of it, feels like my heart's been ripped out by a dragon...

In DD2 the pawns run from you if they see you are trying to kill them on purpose. They even comment on why are picking them up and what you are you doing. The dev team expanded substantially how NPCs interact with the player, the world, and especially how pawns react to our actions and from other players. We'll have some fun shit in the coming days like this one:

Pawn grabbed by the Arisen, asking in concern:

Or how the Pawns comment on the peculiars of different Arisens:

JvIzYi3.png

Saw in one video pawns running from the player the moment he threw one into the water and went for the others. The game will be a certified banger.

well, i think maybe insted of having 10 clothes and 10 chest armor pieces with multiple combinations, you will have 20 very diferent chest armor. ¿? Simplified to have more aestetic variety but less stat combinatios. Maybe?

For ppl that never played the first one, there is a guide on how character building worked, as they said "Body size and build will not impact places you can access this time, but will stiil affect everything else." character creation on this game is not only about your appearance.

As long as they're not going overboard with them being paid DLC's like MHW, I could be ok with this. Bring on an arsenal of varieties to wade in.

The more I think about this uncapped 30 fps situation the more I think this has to be some kind of April Fools joke ...lol

When we heard about it being "uncapped", we all thought that would mean they weren't able to hit 60 fps but that it would probably run between 40-60 ...kind of like Sekiro did back on the ps4 pro and xb1x...

That's the only time an uncapped framerate makes sense lol, when it's already getting good frames just not enough to look to 60 ..and so VRR tvs will be able to do their thing ..

But freakin Capcom gives us an uncapped that runs at 31 fps!! Lol, the WORST CASE SCENARIO framerate that is so close to 30 to begin with but with JUST enough extra frames to give us constant judder and stutter! Lol!!!

Wtf is wrong with Japanese developers?
A few of the videos I watched, the reviewers were straight up saying false shit like they didn't even play the game. I'm wondering if this FPS thing is a misunderstanding and the game will launch with different modes. A few of the reviewers did say they were playing an old build of the game also. Not that I'm trying to cope, because I'm not arsed anyway, just trying to think of it from another perspective.

It's because that dress has good stats. People tend to not customise their pawns much generally, which means a lot of them kinda suck. They just tend to pick what's good stat wise and stick to that.

Which is why I tend to avoid those pawns. Because the well dressed pawns usually have better equipment, pawn inclinations and weaponry. I remember choosing a Greek Warrior looking fighter pawn, not the absolutely best in stats gear wise, but had good ring choice and inclinations for a fighter and a good skill layout.

Same with the Strider I picked. Good ring setup, looked dressed to the nines in a red dress type outfit, good skills and had dragon forged rusted bow and rusted daggers. Was excellent back up and was torporing basically everything. And kept herself alive pretty well too.

Not saying looking good = good pawn, but there is sometimes a good correlation in how people making their pawns look good, will also make sure they perform well enough as well. The silly dress, that jester hat, standard outfits just usually tells me the people who are sending these pawns out are just going for best stats and not looking to optmise their pawn and therefore, not worth recruiting. I ended up still having that level 77 fighter up until level 200.

Also at a certain point, some people will just go for fashion, fuck stats. It's what I do anyway. Any drop in stats, will make up for in skill and looking stylish.

Also, forgive the double post. But are there really only 10 vocations? No true hybrids, apart from that warfarer thing? They say trickster is a hybrid, but it seems to have no direct attack, and that has issues for other reasons(since it depends on your pawns, and well...your pawns can be dumbasses at times and I never actually RELY on them).

If so, that's gonna be disappointing. It's not just about the combining magic with arrows, or magic with spears or whatever, it's about dual weapons and and the skills they confer. It's what made the Warrior vocation such a pain. Limited skill set, only one weapon, no evade/block/counter, no anti-air. Sticking to only one weapon can severely limit you in combat, especially with how the game was balanced. God I hope they don't lean more into that Metal Golem/Wraith route of design philosophy, where you pretty much need a specific type of attack or spend an eternity trying to kill that enemy. Because that'd really screw over one weapon people, and even carrying an extra weapon would only slightly helps in some cases.

Hopefully, the game and monsters are balanced differently this time. But even stuff like having the ability to roll when using Striders, Rangers, Assassins, Magick Archer, as well as being able to mount enemies for thousand kisses when being ranged wasn't really an option was pretty good. Or simply to have ranged options when dealing with flying enemies. It's why I disliked Mage/Sorceror as well and loved Assassin-thousand kisses, masterful kill, and fivefold flurry-chef's kiss. Running around as a sorceror, trying to find some spot to cast or pre-emptive casting was pretty boring to me, especially since all it took was simply to trigger it and wait. That class would have been a complete wash to me if it wasn't for spell syncing and the wonders of Holy Focused Bolt.

Man, I also hope they fix the blinding maelstron attack, the sometimes borked climbing(climbing in a circle on some large enemies shoulder and not knowing which direction you're going in, enemy doing an action and you end up on the opposite side of it) and fucked camera when you climb, and large enemy collissions(get a couple large enemies in a single space and lots of weird things start to happen when they collide or get forced into smaller areas), better indicators when a pawn dies(Death will sometimes take one out, they leap or get knocked off to their deaths and I never know until I check) and better commands. I'd prefer detailed commands, but just just those basic old commands without them affecting my pawn inclination would be good. Just being able to tell my pawn to disengage, engage X mob, or help me would be great, without affecting their inclinations which I have to set up again or buy an elixir for.

Lol, every one that did a preview of this game says that they ll play this game on PC, this says a lot about consoles performance

Rich streamers with 4090 PC's playing games on pc instead of consoles. Shocked :) Most of the streamers are primarily PC gamers

i m not rich, i dont have a 4090 and i ll be playing on PC what is your point ? You guys needs to understand that ppl ll play it on PC cause they want better performance, performance ll aways be king for most players.

want better performance
Paradoxically, this is why I prefer console. The last PC game I bought was Sifu, and it has hitching and stuttering on PC. It drove me mad. Why do consoles not have this unreal engine stutter? I don't know, but I will take lower framerate over stutter.

I hope the pawns inclinations are gone or at least vastly overhauled.

Getting bad traits for playing normally was beyond retarded, or having the 2 external pawns changing the traits of the main pawn if you keep them long enough, fuck that.

The game already has mechanics that are gonna get real boring real fast unless the balancement\game design is fucking pristine, we don't need obtuse stuff that make pawns even more stupid than what they already are.

So a few questions about the game? Can you respec your profession? Can you start a new game without finishing the current one? What is the death penalty in the game. What happens when you die, do you just respawn back in town or where you die?

Arsic

Loves his juicy stink trail scent
Currently I’m looking at day one or day two. I want to see PC version impressions and also see if Ronin is somehow the better game but I haven’t liked any of Team Ninjas games after Gaiden 3 so….

You can respec vocations, you CANNOT start a new game without finishing the first one and when you die I’m not sure if that’s been fully revealed as for a change from DD1

I'm hearing that the game has adaptive difficulty? This is such a poor way to balance your game.

If i get stuck in a boss fight i don't want the game to get easier after a couple of tries...

Jesus when i think about the good things in this game i get immediately hit by a piece of news with some stupid shit :lollipop_grinning_sweat:

na, let's wait for reviews but i guess it's gonna work like RE4, not a big deal imho.

How did it worked on re4 remake?

I can't say i died a lot in that one so it probably never got easier.

no but maybe you noticed that when you were low on healing items you did tend to find them, however this post on steam explains it:

"Apparently the game will use a dynamic difficulty setting, however they were vague on how it works.
Best guess is that it works similarly to how it did in Resident Evil 4: the game would evaluate your overall performance through a couple of KPIs, and assign you a Grade ranging between 1 and 10.
The higher the Grade, the higher the difficulty.
The game would then keep track of your highest Grade, and lock you to a certain threshold: so if you would reach Grade 4, you could never drop below Grade 2.
I would assume this will also impact reward: the higher the Grade, the more XP and gold you get from monsters." - Blackfrost

so if it's something like this i don't think we'll notice that much. But we'll see.

I think Capcom does adaptive difficulty well. It's not something I ever really notice.

I hope so, but the the game balancing the challenge is still gonna be in the back of my head while i play, every time i'm gonna beat a boss after many tried i'm gonna doubt if it was my skill at work or the game becoming easier.

I just prefer a set difficulty mode or just a challenging game without difficulty modes like the souls.

This could be awful too.

I like that NPC's can die permanently, but will a new NPC eventually take their place?

I didn't play a lot of the 1st game, are wakestones easy to come by?

they were rare in the beginning and an awful lot in the endgame, but i guess they're gonna balance this mechanic in dd2
