Story DLC... how much of this is going to be cut content, with some bullshit artistic excuse like "it didn't fit the vision" as if a GAME is like a MOVIE where something "that doesn't fit the vision" can ruin it.

The $10 next gen tax includes:
5 minutes worth of work enabling 60fps and higher resolutions

The $10 next gen tax doesn't include:
All the animation in the game...apparently.

I wish there wasn't a story DLC so i could ignore all of it, don't care about skins or wave mode. I like when games doesn't have any DLC so you get the full story when playing.

I hope this doesn't come across as too over-reactive, histrionic, melodramatic, but this season pass business has single-handedly caused me to pass on this game no matter how good the reviews are until a complete edition drops some years down the road for the price of a regular game. And preferably I'll get my desire for the game out of my system by then and I'll just buy it on sale.

I've done the same with other games, it's just too bad I had my hype for this one killed so close to release.

Holy shit. Talk about instantly sucking all the goodwill out of your game’s promotion.

Who thought this was a fucking good idea this close to launch?

All of my enthusiasm has pretty much evaporated. If they’re up to this kind of bullshit straight out of the gate, what does that say about the actual game content?

How much are the greedy cunts just holding back for no good Reason?

So maybe this is considered console warring here but... is it just coincidence they worked with Sony on this game and then went so hard on this season pass stuff? Now that Sony is pivoting to focus largely on their own f2p/microtransaction/service games i hope this isn't a hint of things to come from Sony. "Yeah guys we will let you use our big state of the art mo-cap studios but we want you to go big with the season pass/dlc stuff and then give us a bigger cut" ... nah probably not.
With Jim Ryan in charge I wouldnt be surprised at all.

This is THE worst holiday season in gaming I’ve ever witnessed. Not a single game was optomized (except for GOW). Gotham Knights charging $70 for a sub 30 fps game on next gen with frame pacing issues! Evil West at 1080p/60 when it easily runs on similar PC’s farrr better. Pokemon S+V having the worst performance imaginable for $60. Now Callisto doing this. We still havnt seen what nonsense NFS and Midnight Suns will try to pull- both $70 games.

It can and will always get worse in the good old games industry.

…and now they’re getting a whole heap of attention for their game right before release. A wonder if there’ll be a “heartfelt apology” recognising that they want to “provide value” for their “loyal fan base” and so are offering half the death animations as well as the permadeath mode for free, but “will continue to reward those who opt to support the hard working devs” by continuing to offer the death animations and cosmetics that are “tied to unique enemies and experiences” in the DLC as an “extra, optional paid experience”? Gosh, aren’t they just so very generous?

Another Day 1 shifting to a Year 3 here.

Horde mode as a paid dlc....

I will wait for a sale or the gamepass/ps plus release.

Why is everyone focusing on the additional death animations? Looks like the DLC is beefier than just that?
I don't think people are frustrated about how much value there is in the season pass it's about the fact that they're monetizing something as fundamental to the game as an animation, what's next? Textures?

they asking for 50 raheems on PC and they're going to keep shit like animations behind a season pass?

Getting you when cheap on cdkeys.

The way I look at it, it seems that the DLC's more significant component is the extra story and modes? The animations are the side content. But again, part of the experience of these type of game is the gore, so I understand why fans of the genre are up in arms about this. Interesting they would pull off something like this for a new IP, it could easily hurt the brand way before anyone could form a proper opinion about the actual game.

Sorry guys, I know it's lame but SP games don't make as much as multiplayer with micros so I hope it does well and I'm still buying. I bet Diablo 4 will have much worse shit and I'm buying that bitch too.

Edit: so it's something they are working on after the fact? Then they deserve the money, the same way Capcom deserves the money for working on a 3rd person mode. Don't be so entitled.

Meh this doesn’t deter me from buying the game as it looks great. I just won’t spend money on the season pass. Simple as that.

god damn wtf? Can we wait till the fucking game even comes out?

smh.

The level of greed here is insane. Its not like they are selling the PS5 and Series X version for some discount, they are taking full advantage and selling at 69.99. To run on this bullshit narrative that they are different and this is the REAL successor to Dead Space and blah blah blah yet here they are pushing that same bullshit, nahhh I can't even say same.

Dead Space remake is not out here showing us a Season pass and DLC or some shit and out here selling whole ass animations as mtx lol
Imagine locking animations behind a season pass. Utterly pathetic.

How embarrassing for these devs.

this is one of the craziest things I've read in a long time. I love supporting new IP and I love the Dead Space concept, but I'm going to have to strongly consider not buying day 1 and cancelling that pre-order. What else are they lying about?

Am I going to find out later a whole slew of content has been removed to be sold back or something? So...maybe I'll wait till a end of the year sale and see how this plays out and buy it used. Right now I'm on that fence and will read on whats going on before deciding if this is worth a day 1.

And this is how publishers ruin a potentially great game.

They deserve to fail but most likely they won't. The game's hype and potential high quality will brute force through all this crap and become a huge success anyway. With this particular game publishers know they can get away with a bit more. They are evil and they are smart.

I am a huge fan of Glen's space horror work, so I'll buy the pass with no regrets.

That said, Glen really, REALLY needs someone to reign him in and explain to him that no matter how excited he gets about some stuff, he needs to think it through first before speaking or giving the go ahead.

He proudly boasted about crunch at an age where journalists are waiting with loaded shotguns to cancel said 'offender'.

He's so proud of his team's animations he thinks they should be sold extra at an age people are sick to death of greedy paywalls.

Clearly a case of a tone-deaf gaming genius.

We have Glen's statement that should clear things up but nope, you guys are still overreacting.

Maybe we should post that tweet of his twice on each page.

Anyway, don't see what's bad about Season Pass. It's not 2006 and the dawn of horse armor anymore.
They want to support their game for another year with additional content, so be it.

I bought season pass for both Xenoblade 3 and Mario + Rabbits 2, both also single player games. If the DLC quality is good then I don’t see anything wrong with it.

people on internet and in social media just loves to quickly react and do hot takes without knowing full story, which exactly what happened with Bayonetta 3 controversy.

Shit, I bought Season Pass for Dark Souls 3 well before the release. I knew I would get more weapons, locations and bosses. Never crossed my mind to think of the base game as lacking any content.

Y'all are fucking weird, you think dlc isn't planned ahead?
You really think if/when elden ring releases some dlc it wasn't on their roadmap from the start?
Getting upset because they announce their future support in advance is fucking lunacy smh.

I didn’t even read that part. I don’t care for hard modes. Only streamers play these.
Maybe they want to make it special? Like remove all hud and so on
Imagine coming into an enthusiast gaming forum and really saying that with a straight face...especially for a genre like survival horror...

Imagine not trying to come out as hardcore.
I play games for other reasons. I don’t play for challenge. I don’t need to challenge myself overly

They must be very confident in their game to pull crap like this. Not buying this now unless it's like Arkham Asylum levels of surprisingly good. If it is, I really don't care what they put behind DLC. Just make the game worth the price.

I can see Schofield being very upset at IGN for jumping the gun on that news and then not taking it down after his statement.

He's now trying his best to respond to every such tweet.

Ummm I was really excited for this, now I don’t want to pay for the game out of principal.

Nope it was media lies… again. Day One again here

The genre itself should be played on hard with few ammo and not like a gears clone, nothing hardcore about it.

It is hardly a "streamer thing".

Like The Witcher 3? Cyberpunk? The Last of Us?

There's no problem with SP in singleplayer games.

They dont have the content ready to ship with the game, and even if they had, maybe the content in the game is already worth of $70
What do you mean? All of the Cyberpunk patches have been totally free.
