Batgirl Will Not Be Released In Theaters Or On HBO Max As Warner Bros. Scraps Completed $90 Million Movie

Again, not sure if you could point to Cavill or Affleck being "problems" when -rightly or wrongly- the director and the studio production team seem to have been the focus of all the controversy. I doubt most average movie-goers thought Snyder's trilogy were exceptionally terrible, and I think it needs to be accepted that with the Snyder cut of JL being broadly considered to be a better movie than the Whedon-cut, Snyder's kinda come out of all this looking like the babyface!
I don’t think they were the problems, I think the world built around them was the problem. I don’t know how you could continue their versions with so much weighing them down.

Hard for Cavill. Impossible for Affleck. The Batman under Reeves will be the only Batman going forward. That's if they continue with anything that exists now...

Nah the test screenings were going well (Pheiffer is the Catwoman in the rebooted universe where Keaton is now Batman), and Brenden Fraser is Firefly in it. They kept the same Gordon from BVS/JL as well.
Is this not true since it has now come out the screenings were absolute dogshit?

Nobodies... Like Chris Hemsworth... ? Like... Mark Ruffalo? Like... Chris Pratt?

None of them were well known mainstream movie stars... Until AFTER their MCU movies

Yeah, they were working actors but they were barely stars... It could be argued Evans was barely a star... A known actor but he wasn't a leading man in anything well loved.
All those guys are from the old Marvel, who are the new ones? that random nobody from Shang Chi? who the hell is supposed to star in the new movies?

They're gonna do it the Disney way, they're gonna put the remaining old superheroes front and center of their marketing campaign but the movies are going to be bait and switch full of the bland new characters no one cares about. They did it with Star Wars and they're going to do it with this shit now.

Random nobody? Abomination? are you talking about Tim Roth? He's in She-Hulk.

DC cinematic universe 🤣 please stop, and only make tv series .. The Batman was so bad I fell asleep , hasn’t happened in 15 years when watching a movie , I didn’t even bother to finish the movie afterwards.

They can't even do that right, at least not on a consistent level. Like their films, some shows are bad, others good. It's not like the MCU where their content ranges from Mediocre - Great. The quality of DC Films/Shows are all over the place.

Fucking unbelievable. There's just no excuse for Warner Bros to have handled this property so poorly. The MCU managed to make Ant Man, Captain Marvel, Dr. Strange and the Guardians more relevant today than Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman. How do you do that? WB was given the best comic book universe and the most recognizable superheroes on a platinum platter, and look what they did with it.

Marvel is run by people who love the source material. DC isn’t.

People seem to forget that Man of Steel was primarily written by David Goyer.

The same David Goyer who then said Martian Manhunter was too goofy to work in a movie.

Goyer's pretty good imho. I worked on a bunch of (movie to game) adaptations over the years and I really enjoyed his work on Blade and Blade 2. The latter to the extent that I was quite disappointed in the released picture with Del Toro's (?) changes.

Writers have their own peculiar tastes and sensibilities, but on top of that there's the whole studio machine which is all about the profit motive. I can't really fault them when they have so little swing in the face of the business side. The hard reality is if you get tasked with doing a draft or polish you'd be very foolish to fly in the face of any production notes or guidance thrown your way, because if YOU won't do the job THEIR way, there's always somebody that will!

Blue Beetle was made for theaters and they're saying it's being spared for accounting reasons. Guess the bot army is going to need to review bomb it after all.

There were initial cries that the scrapping of Batgirl carried bad optics because the title role is played by a Latina. But there were reasons for the move. In both cases, the filmmakers were told that it came down to a “purchase accounting” maneuver available to Warner Bros Discovery because the company has changed hands, and also changed strategy from the previous regime. This opportunity expires in mid-August, said sources, and it allows WBD to not have to carry the losses on its books at a time when the studio is trying to pare down $3 billion in debt across its divisions.

Sources don’t expect other films to get killed like this, because the accounting opportunity expires by the middle of this month.

Is Blue Beetle pretty much a stand alone? That'll help it's survivability too, if it's not too bad a flick.

What? You pooped in the refrigerator? And you ate the whole... wheel of cheese spent 90 million making a movie that's so bad you won't even stream it? How'd you do that? I'm not even mad, that's amazing.

Apparently, David Zaslav has voiced a desire to work with JK Rowling on new Harry Potter content… which, as I’m sure you can imagine, adds a new dimension to some of the social media commentary about this cancellation.

Don't worry, as soon as he announces the new Superman movie won't have any connection to the previous ones the bots will label him a "snake" and won't stop until he's ousted.

I suspect ‘no more Batfleck, only Battinson’ will do much the same thing.

The actress in she-hulk is a bit famous serial tv wise.
So is Kevin Sorbo. It's just random actors. Nothing to look forward to. There is nobody I wanna see act in the entire Marvel universe right now, while earlier on, I was curious about how they would team up and stuff.

They can right the ship even with what's out there. Just have to hire the right writers, directors and crew behind the scenes... People who are fans yet highly competent in what they do.

Old leadership is out (throw crap at the wall and see what sticks while losing money)

And new leadership is in (throw out what doesn't work and keep what does)...

There's been some good stuff in the DCEU along with the bad. Wonder Woman 1 was pretty good (3rd act notwithstanding), Man of Steel was better received by the movie goers (except for Donner fans who wanted a movie where everyone accepted an alien in their midst and was perfect in every way except in la Amor), etc.

Also, Zaslav has Bob Iger and Alan Horn advising him for building WB and DC back up.

Why not release it though? At least some money would come back, so it would be a loss reduction.

Yet he cancels Batgirl (with Batman) and Scooby-Doo, 2 pillars of the DCEU?

Synergy, man!
kb4LRGu.jpg

He only wants those pillars on the big screen.

I wonder if he's going to cancel Peacemaker, even though the first season got all those Emmy nominations.

The new CEO is ... I don't know can somebody explain why he's cutting cost so much on a streaming service that is really successful in terms of user base? wasn't this one of the biggest leaps for them ?

Is my Venture Brothers / Metalocalypse movies in danger now ? :(

Close Enough already got cancelled and so did Raised by Wolves...
